I could tell that there was something going on with Zevran and that it also had something to do with Leilani, but no matter how hard I tried to pry it out of him, I just couldn't because he was so closed off about it, so secretive too…
However, there were times when I would walk into his office or someplace else to find him staring into space.
Other times, he was receiving countless mails, making secretive phone calls or sending out investigators for things only he knew about; And now, I couldn't even deny the fact that I was becoming genuinely worried.
I feared that he— or maybe Leilani— had gotten into some form of trouble; And goddess help me, even though I was madly curious to know what it was about, I was also feeling an inexplicable sense of inadequacy.
I felt like I wasn't enough when all I wanted to do was to protect them… to save them from whatever it was; But I couldn't, and it was infuriating.
