Chapter 263 - Element of grief.

For a moment, I was so stunned, I couldn't bring myself to move or speak, so all I could do was stay there, stiff as a statue, while Kael continued to hug me, his stubble brushing against my forehead as he muttered under his breath;

"I am really so so sorry! I wish there was something I could do for you!"

While he spoke, I hardly listened. Why? Because I was lost listening to the way his heart was beating heavily in his chest.

I was lost wondering why his featherlight touches tingled so much.

He pulled away from me suddenly and cleared his throat, his cheeks taking on a faint pinkish color as he rushed out;

"I didn't mean to… I never… Leilani, I am sorry for touching you. I do not understand what has been wrong with me but I could… I should…" 

"You should take your leave now," I answered a little too coldly, not missing the way he froze for a second before lifting his eyes to meet mine. And I do not know why, but I immediately felt like a piece of shit.
