"Kaelis…?"
He could not believe the sight before him at all.
He had known Kaelis was unusual from the first moment they met—his presence, his confidence—but not to this degree.
Flying through the air and firing lasers like someone out of a fairytale… it shattered every notion Kurusu had about what was possible.
"Just who… who are you?" He muttered.
Still staring as Kaelis decimated the kabanes, Kurusu caught himself after a moment.
"Ah right… I came here to do something."
Remembering his plan to give assistance to the soldiers, he looked around at the crowd of soldiers still dazed.
"Snap out of it! Go check on the survivors down below!" He shouted instructions.
"Eh. Ah Sir Kurusu, are you seeing this?" One pointed.
"Yes. I'm seeing it."
"Have the gods come to assist us?!"
"Really!? The gods came?!"
"So we're saved!"
"Bless the gods!"
Seeing as his orders were partially ignored, he was a little upset but as the situation at this moment was too breathtaking he decided to overlook it.
So he once more gave them the order. "Alright enough! Go check on the civilians and check for any injuries and inspection."
"Yes! On it!" They finally registered the instruction and began moving.
That left only Kurusu on top of the train watching the faint light dimming in the distance.
…
Vnnnnnmmm
In the night sky, only illuminated by multiple beams of light streaming from the tip of his beautiful sword, Kaelis floated above watching as the number of kabanes thinned while listening to their wails.
He glanced in the direction of the train leaving.
He focused his gaze on a spot on the train and saw a lone figure standing there.
A grin formed on his lips. "I'll mess with him when I get back, hehehe." He glanced back at the hordes. "I'll quickly finish up here."
It has only been a few minutes, approximately 5 to be exact since he began killing them.
He had been releasing a fixed number of beams, no more than ten at a time due to having to consciously control all ten at the same time.
Due to the speed of each beam being around sixty percent the speed of light to control them simultaneously, the rate of killing is far less.
"There's little more than 400 left, this should be enough."
He dispelled the lasers before the orb at the sword's tip enlarged to the size of a football and was pointed at the remaining monsters.
"Grrrhnn?"
VZOOOOOM…(or insert enuma ellish)
THWOOM—VVVRRRRMMM—SHHHHK!
A single, powerful beam ranged forward towards the earth.
It screamed under the relentless beam as it dragged, leaving scorched trenches behind.
In a matter of seconds the remaining kabanes were wiped out in an instant.
Enhancing his senses, observed the surroundings for any surviving kabane. When he saw nothing but a few wandering hordes kilometers aways approaching, he dispelled his sword.
"That ends that."
BOOM—
He blasted off in the distance.
…
Inside the train, the soldiers that Kurusu had instructed were checking the injured as instructed.
The civilians inside though, were not idle either.
"The kabaneri brought the kabaneri here!"
"Are you sure!?"
"I'm sure of it!"
"I don't want to ride with those kabaneri anymore!"
"We should kick them off right!"
"Did you see that light before!? Maybe god-sama will get rid of them too!"
"Right! God will deal with them!"
They began throwing accusations at the two kabaneri and praying for the downfall of the kabaneri.
"Have you heard a word from Kurusu yet?"
"No, my lady. He had gone to the roof area to assist the other soldiers before. It seems he is still up there, though the others had come down already."
Inside another compartment of the train. Only Ayame and a female assistant were there.
The female assistant was currently kneeling before Ayame helping her get dressed after checking for bites.
They had heard the racket caused by the people and it caused Ayame's mood to drop.
"Everything I did to help, seemed to simply backfire."
Ayame blamed herself.
"Don't say that; it's not true. And you are lucky, there are no bites." The assistant assured.
That didn't seem to uplift her mood. "Thank you for your help."
"I wonder if Mr Kaelis is okay." She murmured.
"Is Miss Ayame in here?" A call came from outside, startling her a bit.
Not getting a confirmation from her, the person took the opportunity to demean her. "Hmph. Maybe she decided to hide from us."
"No, I'll be right there!" She announced. "What do they want now?" She muttered under her breath.
"Just stay strong." The assistant gave words of encouragement.
When she got out to meet the person, she saw an elderly man and two others waiting for her.
Not giving her time to think further, the man immediately accused. "This is all your fault."
"This happened because you let those kabaneri on board! Incompetent!"
As Ayame is a soft spoken girl who has an obedient personality and dependent on her father a lot, along with Kurusu not present at the moment, she could only look down and defend herself.
"What are you trying to say, Akouji?" She asked softly.
"What I'm trying to say is the people are getting restless! They believe it is too dangerous to let you remain in charge of the koutetsujou and frankly, im starting to agree with them."
She could only stand there and listen, because even if what they are saying is harsh, it is the truth.
Whether they are doing it for their own benefit, that remains to be seen.
"It's true. I may not be strong enough to lead the people on this train."
"So you admit—you're not up to it." Hmph. Small smiles began forming on the trio's faces. "Then the right thing to do is hand over the master key."
She handed over to them the key.
"Good. From now on, we will be in full and total charge of the koutetsujou." Akouji turned and addressed the rest of the people inside the car, "Engineer! Change course. This train's going to Yamagoe!"
"Huh?" The engineer, the red head, Yukina was confused.
"But Yamagoe is too dangerous! The tunnels expose our roof—" Ayame spoke up. "—From there the kabane can ambush us from—"
Kabane are agile and can reach down into the train cars and if the roof is open, passengers and defenders inside become vulnerable to direct attacks from above, making it easier for Kabane to grab or bite people.
But before Ayame could finish her statement, Akouji interrupted. "It's the fastest way to Kongokaku, and it's the route we're taking!"
…
Meanwhile on the roof top, Kurusu had his steam gun pointed at an individual.
"Who are you really!?" He demanded an answer from the person.
