Ring, Ring, Ring
That was the sound of—
Déjà vu.
I looked at the time—8:15 AM. My first real day at Elysian High, and I was already cutting it close.
I was lucky that I set an alarm for 8:15 just in case there was a day I woke up late.
Who knew it would be my first day on campus?
In a rush, I took a bath and put on my uniform. I also hurriedly prepared Tamago Kake Gohan, the only meal I knew how to cook, scarfing it down despite the rice being steaming hot.
After getting ready, I went on my way to school. I quickly ran to the school area.
I really need to work on my time management skills. Well, I'm sure I'll just get a slap on the wrist—I mean today is basically my first day.
My first day at Tokyo Metropolitan Elysian High School.
I finally reached the school, and unsurprisingly, I was the only one who was late—it was already 8:35 AM.
However, something was weird. Despite me coming late, no one stood at the gate of the school to punish me.
It was weird since we were Japanese, and punctuality is one of our core principles.
It seems there's no one to punish me. Maybe because today is my first day?
No, I highly doubt this amount of leniency would come from such a school, or maybe it's because of the promotion of student autonomy?
This school had several weird rules, one of which was the absolute promotion of student autonomy, allowing students to do whatever they saw fit.
However, anti-bullying rules were set in place, so if caught bullying someone then the person would be instantly expelled.
Nevertheless, the school gave students freedom with no apparent punishments.
It seems like I won't get punished.
After entering school, I went to my class but—
The back door was locked; meaning I had to pass through the front one, but Jackson-Sensei was in the middle of homeroom.
Heugh.
I sighed internally, exasperated at the predicament. I could leave the class entirely however if caught, explaining myself would be quite an issue, especially with the cameras.
I took a deep breath and walked in, but—
She said nothing about me walking in. It was like I hadn't done anything. As I walked to my seat there was no response.
I couldn't grasp why this happened. Sure, I get not punishing me—as I was a new student, and free will was promoted here, but not addressing me was not normal at all.
I silently wondered how absolute the student autonomy really was.
Well, if no one's going to say anything, then I won't either.
"Now I'm sure all of you received the message about applying into a club, since it's a new term, for those without clubs and those that want to change clubs can both get into new clubs."
Wait what? There are clubs?
"I have to join a club this term considering the benefits I missed last term."
Benefits?
I was about to check my phone when—
"Yeah, I really can't wait to apply for the literary club. What club are you applying for?"
"I don't have any in mind though I might join you considering it's free boobs."
"Exactly, for a second I thought you weren't my brother."
"Like who doesn't love a bookworm, they're the freakiest."
"Yeah, and this club is full of 'em."
The duo pervs—or so I started to call them, were at it this early in the day. It was my first day, second actually, and all they could think about was girls.
I understand but tone it down dude. Also, I don't think your theory on literary girls is accurate.
Though I have no experience, so I can't be sure. I mean after all I'm still Mr. I've had no girlfriend.
I brought out my phone and saw the message about the club application.
I sighed in exasperation then put my phone back into my pocket.
I could apply still today especially with those "benefits" but I value my freedom way too much for that.
"With that out of the way, I will take my leave," Jackson-Sensei strode out quickly.
With her gone I sat silently waiting for my first class as I looked outside the window to admire the clouds.
Until—
"Nakamura."
It was my neighbor—Suzuki Aiya. She was the gyaru that sat beside me.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"Why'd you come late?"
"I woke up late that's all."
"Oh really, I thought you just wanted to skip class."
"I-I would never."
"Sure," she answered while showing apparent skepticism. "Anyway, do you wanna—"
Before she could finish, a teacher walked in; we stood up to greet him and then had class.
She had to wait till break, she looked like she really wanted to ask something important, and to be honest, I was really curious about what she wanted to ask.

Author's Note:
A short one but at least I release one chapter daily. Anyway, thanks for reading though if I might add, I don't think Nakamura's right about literary girls especially with booktok but I digress.
Anyway… See you in the next one.
