I was walking to the dormitory; deep in a reverie, still thinking about what happened in Jackson-sensei's faculty room.
I used a pathway that was behind the school. Until I suddenly heard someone shout something.
"Uh…Um…I like you. Please be my girlfriend!"
Huh? What's going on? A confession?
I walked closer, rather I sneakily walked there, as I didn't want to be found.
'Eavesdropping is bad.'
I knew that but unfortunately my curiosity got the best of me.
"Umm…This is really sweet, but Miyamura I can only think of you as a friend."
Miyamura?
You'd think that someone that athletic would only focus on the sport they play, at least that was the impression I had of Miyamura.
"I see…" his mood became sour.
"I'm sorry it's just…"
"N-Nagumo…It's fine."
"I'm really sorry, I just…I'm sorry!" Nagumo ran away.
She was unable to say anything and ran away to not complicate matters.
She was a better person than me, I would just be silent, unable to do anything.
I couldn't imagine—
"Damn, so that's it, huh?" Miyamura fell on his knees, watching as Nagumo left.
With the confession finished and my curiosity satisfied, I was about to leave through the forest, but I stepped on a branch.
Shit. Shit—wait, what if he didn't hear me.
"Come out, I heard you."
I stayed for a while but eventually came out, I wore a nervous grin.
"Y-Yo—"
"Don't "Yo" me, what are you doing here?"
"I was uh…just lost. I'm still new so I sometimes get lost."
"Yeah sure. That makes perfect sense," he seemed to believe my lie. "Like I'd believe that!"
Of course.
I sighed internally.
"I'm really sorry. W-why don't I buy you a meal?"
His face darkened for a sec, and I was admittedly a little scared but then he grinned.
Normally it would have calmed me down, but it wasn't a normal grin.
It wasn't innocent, it was the one that was menacing. He looked like Light Yagami.
I had a really bad feeling about what was about to happen next.
"Fine, but only if I can order as much as I want."
"Sure."
It seemed I was worried over nothing. Note that the key word is "seemed."
"…and also, the lobster special."
"Sir, that's the whole menu."
This guy ordered the whole goddamn menu.
"Don't worry I'm not the one paying, he is," Miyamura pointed at me.
"Sir, are you sure?" The waiter was concerned, looking at me.
"Don't…worry…I…can…handle…it," I barely managed to say.
"Sir, you have to pay 50,000 Rp."
"It's…Fine," I squeezed out.
Now, I only have 10,000 Rp left.
After ordering the food, I just watched Miyamura eat through everything. Honestly, it was amazing.
No, what was amazing was how fast he finished my Rp. I didn't know how I would survive like this till they gave me more Rp.
"50 thousand," I whispered.
"Did you say something?" Miyamura asked.
"Dude, I know I eavesdropped but aren't you pushing it?"
"You should have said something while ordering cuz this place doesn't accept refunds."
I suppose I should have said something before he finished everything but here we were.
"Plus you're still new so I bet you have a lot of money to spare," he added.
"That doesn't mean I have infinite money."
"You're the one who said I can order as much as I want."
"If you had good etiquette then you'll know that you should politely decline or only order one meal, a cheap one at that."
"Etiquette? That's rich coming from you, who eavesdrops when someone is confessing?"
"That's…"
He got me there.
"That's what?"
"I'm sorry."
"It's ok…"
There was some silence for a while before I spoke up.
"Aren't you going to apologise too?" I asked.
"Damn, I'm sorry for ordering the whole menu, ok? I just got my heart torn apart, so I'm still recovering."
"…It's fine, I can survive with what I have."
"Oh, that's good, everything's fixed then."
"...Won't you at least try to pay some back?"
"Why would I?"
"Didn't your mom teach manners?"
"…Dude, I need a girlfriend," he stared at the window.
He changed the subject? Why though…?
"You wanna try and confess again to Nagumo?"
"Nope, won't work. I need to find a new girl."
I was surprised at what he said, and I made sure he could see the surprise on my face.
"What?" he asked.
"How did you move on so fast? Didn't you love Nagumo?"
"I did but she rejected me so I can't do much about that, can I?"
"Well, I suppose you're right."
"So I need to find a new girl and you're going to help me with that."
"Uh, when did I agree to that?"
"Come on, it won't be that hard. Just find a cute girl."
"Oh, so that's all you care about."
"You're a guy so you should understand where I'm coming from."
"Yeah, but looks aren't everything."
"Yeah sure. That's what everyone says, yet they never date the ugly girl."
"That's cuz…"
Damn, I have no answer to that because I also want a cute girlfriend…Maybe he's right, no, girls shouldn't be objectified.
Yeah, but I can't argue that I want a cute girlfriend, but that doesn't mean I want to date a crazy person—so personality does matter.
But what type of personality do I even like? That type of question can be answered later.
Maybe I should help Miyamura, so he doesn't end up dating someone crazy and maybe this could be a learning experience to find out what type of girl I like.
Moreover, about his focus on just a girl's appearance, perhaps there is something that can be done.
"Heugh," I sighed. "Fine, I'll help you."
"Thank you thank you thank you," he shook my hands vigorously.
"You're welcome," I grinned nervously.
"Well, thanks for the food and for listening, here's my acc, it's Miyarito-kun."
Miyarito?
"You're giving me your account name?"
"Yeah, also, thanks again. You're a real good friend. Anyway, see ya," he stood and left.
I suppose I should go too.
I walked back to the dormitory, thinking about what Miyamura said.
He's really interested in getting a girlfriend. I wonder why, maybe it's related to his mom.
But what's so special about girlfriends anyway? I know lovers are different from just normal friends.
They go on dates, do things together, hold hands, kiss—and even—
I instinctively blushed, the thought of something like that had suddenly made me embarrassed.
It was the curse of being a teenager, anyway, I started to think about who could be good for Miyamura.
I couldn't just recommend a cute girl for him.
Despite my plan to stay bland, I had to find someone who could fit someone like him.
Someone who would be suitable for an impulsive, funny, annoying athlete. It would prove to be a heavy task.
But that's what you do for your friends, right?
