Chapter 148: Reasonable Speculation
In the hotel room, Luo En lowered his head, his expression a little unnatural.
"My moral standards are indeed out of place in this world. I just had a glimmer of hope—
"I actually thought she had feelings for me, which is why she—"
"After all that, it was still about those materials, huh? I saved her so many times, yet—"
To be honest, being ambushed and knocked unconscious by a shipmate while carrying a ship full of Tracy and not far from land—from a normal perspective, this is a classic case of murder for profit.
But, as a normal male, even if Luo En himself didn't have any abnormal thoughts, there was still a bit of...
For example, perhaps Tracy, after her invitation failed, became angry and tied him up, or perhaps when he bandaged her wound earlier,
He saw her exposed, and though she appeared indifferent, she had actually been silently enduring it...
Or perhaps, after he saved her, she fell in love with him, invited him to be a pirate with her, and when he refused, she became yandere-like and... well, Luo En himself felt a bit awkward thinking about that.
After all, that thought was really too... something. But wasn't he tied up too, and his clothes were even taken off, so it had some basis in reality, right?
"It seems taking off my clothes was merely to check if I had any Mystical Items hidden on me, just in case." Luo En finally came to the most "reasonable" conclusion.
"That's right, since she's a famous great pirate, how could she be a simple love-struck fool?"
Even if some of her actions seemed like it, it was probably a disguise.
After about two minutes, Luo En calmed down after venting his emotions a bit during his brainstorming.
To be honest, he still couldn't quite believe that Tracy was truly cold-blooded and heartless.
After all, when they were exploring the ruins, she did actively come down to find me, even though she said it was because she was afraid I'd hog the Tracy, but—
"Hmph." Luo En sighed.
He picked up his satchel, rummaged through it, and pulled out a pendulum. Previously, using coins for divination had a higher chance of error, so he planned to use the pendulum to divine again.
This time, he intended to ask more directly.
"Tracy wants to monopolize the materials."
"Tracy wants to monopolize the materials."
"Tracy wants to monopolize the materials."
After asking a full seven times, Luo En opened his eyes. The pendulum in front of him swayed slightly, then began to rotate clockwise—this indicated affirmation.
"Haha—" Luo En laughed.
Indeed, in this world where the strong prey on the weak, what does a life-saving grace count for? A life-saving grace is nothing compared to the immediate benefits at hand.
Moreover, the other party was a notorious great pirate.
"Adept at using her appearance to lure prey—" Luo En recalled the information Danitz had just provided.
It seems I was deceived.
"Just a little bit of hardship—" He muttered a sentence to himself.
"Just a little bit of hardship."
"Just a little bit—"
"No!" Luo En clenched his hand. He tried to convince himself to calm down, but he failed.
"The more I think about it, the angrier I get."
He looked at the satchel beside him, forcibly suppressing his anger. No matter what, the 3 of Diamonds poker card was still there, and Luo En had stuffed many characteristics and materials into its portable space. He had still gained a lot from this trip.
Luo En examined the 3 of Diamonds and couldn't help but feel a little fortunate that he had never exposed this card. And judging by the look of the bag, Tracy probably hadn't searched it thoroughly either.
She probably just quickly glanced at it, saw there was nothing valuable inside, and subconsciously ignored the bag, Luo En analyzed.
"Good thing I didn't conjure a can of food in front of her." Luo En recalled that on the lifeboat, he always took out supplies before Tracy woke up, only explaining to her that he was lucky to find them. At most, she would marvel at his luck and probably wouldn't think of a storage space.
"It's a pity, my Ripper is gone." Luo En didn't see his shotgun in his luggage, guessing it was still on that ship.
"First edition weapons are very valuable—"
If that lever-action rifle were truly mass-produced later, a handmade first edition like this would be very valuable.
Similar to master gunsmiths' first edition works before he transmigrated, those were hot sellers at auctions.
"Wait, my patent won't be registered first, will it?"
The physical object had already been taken by the other party. It wasn't impossible to replicate the blueprint from the physical object; in fact, Luo En himself had taken this approach.
"And my coat and shirt—"
He had worn that coat all the way since he transmigrated, and he didn't expect it to end up in Tracy's hands.
However, there was one thing Luo En couldn't figure out for now:
"Why didn't she kill me? With a warehouse full of materials, wouldn't it be better to kill me to silence me in this situation?"
"Could it be that she wants my characteristics, and since they can't be preserved on the ship, she wants to extract them alive once she reaches a safe place?"
"Brando, how are you doing?"
Danitz's knock on the Door interrupted Luo En's thoughts.
"I'm fine, come in."
Hearing this, Danitz pushed open the Door, revealing his head.
"Danitz, is it safe here?"
"Don't worry, absolutely safe." Danitz vowed, "This hotel is run by our contact person, and when we came back, I noticed we weren't followed."
"That's good. Let me ask you, were there any other people on that ship?" Luo En looked at Danitz.
"Probably not." Danitz shook his head, then briefly recounted the process of bringing Luo En back earlier.
"She probably went to find people to help—" Luo En roughly guessed Tracy's whereabouts. After all, with so many materials, she couldn't transport them all by herself—
It seems the Lucky One's ability worked; he was rescued during this brief window.
"Danitz, are you the only one? Is the Captain here?" Luo En asked again.
If Edwina was there, they might be able to reclaim those materials.
"No, the Captain and the others are still at sea." Danitz shook his head.
"Is that so?" Luo En was a little disappointed.
"Alright, alright."
"I know what you want to ask, I'll just tell you."
Facing Danitz's gossipy gaze, he briefly recounted his experiences with Tracy to Danitz. Of course, Luo En deliberately omitted matters concerning the primitive island and the high-level existence.
He only said that he and Tracy had explored a ruin and unexpectedly gained some spoils.
Unexpectedly, Tracy became greedy and wanted to monopolize them, knocking him unconscious.
Luo En concealed his gains. Although he trusted Danitz, having just been betrayed, he had to be cautious.
"Tsk, you two, a man and a woman, drifted at sea for so long, and nothing happened?" After listening to Luo En's bland account,
Danitz's face was full of disappointment.
After all, if Luo En had really had something happen with Disease Maiden, then he wouldn't be competing with him for the Captain.
Although, from previous experiences on the Golden Dream, there shouldn't be any friendship between Luo En and the Captain that goes beyond platonic.
But, what if...?
This Lucky One was too bizarre.
If Luo En had really become a couple with Disease Maiden, then Danitz estimated that he would feel as fortunate as the other Golden Dream crew members.
After all, Luo En couldn't possibly provoke their Captain again under the supervision of a Pirate General.
"Huh?! What did you say?" Luo En narrowed his eyes.
"You seem very disappointed?"
"Cough, I mean, I didn't expect Disease Maiden to be so insidious." Danitz quickly corrected himself.
Indeed, the Captain is still the best.
"Cough, cough—" Luo En suddenly coughed violently twice.
"Are you sick?"
"Yes." Luo En nodded slightly, then pointed to his neck, "I was taken down by Tracy using her disease ability."
"Look, look at the red rash on my neck."
"Are you sure... this is a rash?" Danitz looked at the red mark on Luo En's neck; it didn't look like a rash at all.
"Otherwise, what could it be? A bite mark?" Luo En joked.
'Well, it really does look like a bite mark.' Danitz silently grumbled to himself as he looked at Luo En's neck.
"However, since I'm back, I need to find Roy King again."
"What for?"
"Promotion." Luo En's expression was solemn.
"I have a feeling Tracy will come looking for me again."
