Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Terrifying Follow-Up Attacker

Eidolon 6

[You Do the First, I Do the Fifteenth]

When an enemy in the [Dreamscape] state attempts to apply a continuous damage-type debuff to an ally, the ally retaliates by applying that debuff back to the enemy without consuming the [Dreamscape] trigger count.

"Absolutely broken!"

"This game's continuous damage is called DoT. Does Leon's Eidolon 6 mean that as long as an enemy has Dreamscape, they can't apply DoTs to us?"

"Ah Xian, Ah Xian, quick, find a mob to test this!"

Ah Xian broke out in a sweat. "I can't remember which enemy applies DoTs."

"…There might not even be one in the space station. You'd need to get to Jarilo-VI. Let's put it on hold for now. I'll cloud-calculate Leon's rotation."

In front of the live stream audience, Katiya dragged her mouse to open WPS.

She started pulling up a spreadsheet.

Muttering to herself:

"Leon's follow-up attack frequency isn't low. Conservatively, let's say 3 triggers per cycle, regenerating 15 energy."

"EAA rotation doesn't consume skill points, producing 2 points over 3 turns, regenerating 70 energy."

"Ultimate regenerates 5 energy, so total: 15 + 5 + 70 = 90."

"With an energy regeneration rope adding 19.4%, 90 * 1.194 ≈ 107.5, just under 3 energy short."

"In actual combat, taking even a single AoE hit ensures a stable three-action-one-ultimate cycle."

"In specific scenarios, his follow-up frequency far exceeds 3 per cycle, since some characters and enemies can help him apply debuffs."

"In other words, with just a 5-star energy regeneration rope, he has no energy gap."

"And with a two-piece Wonweek inner relic set, he can achieve a 100% three-action-one-ultimate cycle even without taking hits."

"Stable rotation, ample healing, high skill point generation, plus control immunity and damage buffs…"

"Leon is just too well-rounded. If the designers didn't mess up, he's almost certainly a downgraded five-star."

"But you could also look at it this way: Genshin has evergreen four-stars like Xiangling."

"Honkai: Star Rail needs its own evergreen four-star, right?"

"Ensuring a baseline experience for non-paying players is crucial for a game's retention and growth."

"Clearly, in a turn-based game where survival roles are critical, Leon is the must-build card to secure that baseline."

Katiya's long spiel resonated with many players.

Subconsciously, they added Leon to their must-build character list.

A tiny, tiny minority were exceptions.

These players typically didn't build male characters.

As long as they didn't stir up trouble, no one cared how they played the game.

The majority of players still leaned toward building whoever was strong and useful.

Katiya struck while the iron was hot.

"After today's stream ends, I'll grind out a preliminary Leon guide right away."

"A preliminary guide will do for now; the full guide needs him at max level."

"Don't worry, young heroes. I'll definitely max out my daily stamina to level him up."

"That's about it for the new character Leon's analysis. You can go back to progressing the story now."

At this moment, Ah Xian spoke up, interrupting Katiya's train of thought.

"There's also Leon's four-star Light Cone that regenerates energy. Seems pretty broken too. Take a look?"

Katiya slapped her thigh.

"Oh, right, right, right! How did I forget about that?"

She clicked into the Light Cone section on the wiki, filtered for Abundance, and immediately spotted Leon's card.

No surprise there.

He was just too strikingly handsome.

The composition was also quite unique.

The Light Cone only showed Leon's upper body.

But from the edges, you could tell he was framed within March 7th's camera.

The background was the Astral Express, confirming he was a new member of the crew in the public release.

"Awsl, my husband's smiling at me! I'm in his heart!"

"I told you to check the Light Cone stats, and you're already fangirling?" Katiya laughed, exasperated.

But, yeah, that smile was indeed captivating.

His facial lines were sharp, yet the curve of his lips carried a hint of roguish charm, creating a striking contrast.

Unless your tastes were extremely niche, it was hard for any girl to resist Leon's looks and that smile.

Props to the artist, and major points to the modeler!

Ah Xian: "Fangirl all I want! Husband, use your big, strong legs to kick my butt hard from behind!"

[Good heavens, a masochist queen!]

[…Big, strong legs? I'm lost in thought…]

As the audience roasted her, Katiya suddenly let out a national expletive, grabbing everyone's attention.

It was the kind of move that, in an MMO, would instantly secure the boss's aggro.

"Holy—! This Light Cone is a four-star?"

"I thought Dance! Dance! Dance! was already the top four-star Light Cone, but there's an even stronger contender?!"

[Reliable and Proper Hobby]

Level 80/80

Base HP: 952

Base Attack: 423

Base Defense: 396

The following effects only apply to the [Abundance] Path.

Superimposition 1/2/3/4/5

Joy in Progress

Increases the wearer's healing by 12%/15%/18%/21%/24%.

When a follow-up attack applies a debuff to an enemy, restores 2%/2.5%/3%/3.5%/4% energy to other allied units.

Katiya slumped back in her chair, speechless for a long time.

As a veteran of three deep beta tests, how could she not see how terrifying this Light Cone was?

Yes, it was extremely specialized.

No one but Leon could use it.

Among Abundance characters, only Leon had follow-up attacks.

And it wasn't enough to have follow-up attacks—they had to apply debuffs to trigger the energy regeneration.

But this was an incredibly valuable percentage-based energy regeneration!

No matter how high a character's energy cap was in the future, the energy restored would scale proportionally.

Assuming Superimposition 5:

For a 100-energy character, Leon's follow-up attack restores 4 energy.

For a 200-energy character, it restores 8 energy.

Assuming both rely solely on Leon's follow-ups to fill their energy, both would need 25 follow-ups to max out.

That might seem hard to achieve, but don't forget—every character has their own energy regeneration methods.

Typically, basic attacks restore 20, skills restore 30, and ultimates restore 5.

Some characters have special regeneration methods, but we won't list them all.

The biggest value of Leon's Light Cone is that it's highly likely to save other characters an entire energy-regeneration turn.

With his high follow-up frequency, just 5 triggers restore 20% energy.

For a 100-energy character, that's equivalent to a basic attack turn.

For characters with over 100 energy, it exceeds a basic attack's regeneration.

When Katiya calmed down a bit and shared the above with the audiences of both streams—

As expected, it sparked a flood of shocked and praising comments.

"Terrifying Follow-Up Attacker."

"I regret to inform everyone that all the content creators who made pre-launch character guides have become clowns."

"Of course, that includes me."

"I can confidently declare: the crown of the strongest launch four-star goes to Leon, hands down."

"As long as you're willing to invest in him, he'll give you returns far beyond his value."
