Chapter 162 - Chapter 162: Big Dumb Spring

Leon ignored him, continuing to "copy" the scripture.

Behind him, the Cloud Knight, full of sneaky vibes, watched him copy seven or eight times and finally couldn't hold back.

Seriously, who taught you to pursue immortality like this?

This clueless outsider youth was really…

Speechless.

Oh, wait, this guy wasn't some immortality-seeking petitioner but a distinguished guest certified by General Jing Yuan.

"Brother, stop copying, stop! How did you get addicted to this? I'll finish copying for you—please keep watch for me!"

The Cloud Knight snatched the pen from Leon's hand.

While the Sowers outside weren't paying attention, he wrote furiously.

His writing speed left Leon dumbfounded.

Fast.

So fast.

Had this Cloud Knight brother really copied it seven hundred times?

Though the scripture in the booklet was only a few lines, copying it fully would still amount to over four thousand characters.

In about ten minutes…

"Done, done! Finally finished this thing. Check the handwriting—any issues?"

But before Leon could respond, he continued:

"Brother, I know you. You're General Jing Yuan's distinguished guest!"

Leon: "Who's Jing Yuan?"

"Hah, who else? The general of our Luofu!"

"You recognized me? Looks like I have no choice. Gotta go all in and silence you."

"No, no, no—!"

The Cloud Knight nearly broke out in a cold sweat, hurriedly explaining in a low voice.

"I'm undercover, undercover! Just like you!"

Leon raised an eyebrow.

Was he undercover?

Hmm… maybe he was. Alright then.

Why did this guy recognize him? Likely because Jing Yuan had shared his information—portrait, identity, and all—with some Cloud Knights.

As expected of the Divine Foresight General. Even without explicit hints, he could pick up on Leon's intentions and keep pace.

No one said a trump card had to be kept hidden.

Quite the contrary.

The one flaunted openly was often the best for catching others off guard.

See? Most Cloud Knights had probably received the memo.

Leon guessed Jing Yuan might also be using him as bait to fish for anyone within the Cloud Knights particularly sensitive to his presence.

Well played, General.

Dealing with smart people was just so effortless. A silent chess game spoke louder than words.

And the benefits were already showing, weren't they?

With Jing Yuan's heads-up, most Cloud Knights would recognize him, making many things much easier.

"Not long ago, the General sent out intel about you, instructing the Cloud Knights to cooperate with whatever you're doing, no matter what."

"If you do something sensitive, we're to pretend we didn't see…"

The Cloud Knight's words confirmed Leon's suspicions.

"I'm Da Chun, a Cloud Knight from the Exalting Sanctum garrison. While patrolling, I noticed Green Hibiscus acting all sneaky, so I eavesdropped."

"Didn't expect that guy to be preaching some heretical nonsense, so I pretended to be dissatisfied with the Cloud Knight system and followed to go undercover."

"But I got suspected right away. Took a ton of effort to barely convince them I genuinely wanted to join the Medicine King's Secret Transmission."

Leon's expression was hard to describe.

"If I were the Medicine King's Secret Transmission, I'd suspect you too. At least change out of the uniform first."

"Hah, I figured an evil organization like this, expanding offline, would need members with influence in the enforcement team."

Da Chun had an "I think this is fine" look.

"So I showed up in my uniform. Tell me, doesn't that perfectly tap into their needs?"

"Uh… half and half, I guess."

This guy was a genius in his own way.

"Half?"

"Forget it. Details don't matter now."

If it were someone more paranoid, they'd probably demand he kill a Cloud Knight to prove his loyalty.

But from the current situation…

Green Hibiscus and his crew clearly saw Da Chun as a dim-witted fool.

Big Dumb Spring had Big Dumb Spring's luck. Misguided success, right?

"Shh—keep it down, brother!"

"In your eyes, I'm a short-lived species, right?"

"You're the General's distinguished guest. That's a title of respect—long or short lifespan doesn't matter."

Da Chun stole a glance at the gate.

"Those guys aren't pushovers. If they figure out we're both undercover, neither of us is getting out."

Leon rubbed his chin.

Da Chun, oh Da Chun, don't you realize they never trusted you to begin with?

Learn to read the room, buddy.

Green Hibiscus's facial expressions weren't bad, but they couldn't fool him.

If even he was under suspicion, how much more a Cloud Knight?

"Listen, I'll help you finish copying the seven hundred scriptures. In return, cover for me later—I need to report to the Seat of Divine Foresight!"

Leon nodded casually.

Just cover? Easy.

Service guaranteed—simple, direct, satisfaction assured.

"No problem. But Brother Da Chun, copy eight more for me."

"Why… oh, I get it! Going beyond seven hundred shows extra devotion, right? You're sharp, brother. No wonder the General singled you out!"

Da Chun dove back into writing.

A strange glint flashed through Leon's eyes.

Could he say the "seven or eight copies" Da Chun saw him write was just an illusion…?

"Done… go turn it in to that guy."

Leon grinned, picking up the scriptures Da Chun had copied for him, then turned and pulled a Sichuan opera face-change.

His face was all impatience as he yanked open the courtyard gate.

"Finished copying. Can I join now?"

Green Hibiscus was stunned.

"Done that fast? Let me check… hmm… wow, you really copied seven hundred times!"

"Fast and well done, heh heh heh… looks like you've got quite the immortal fate."

Leon: "So I'm in now? Come on, give me the power!"

"No rush, no rush. The initiation trial has two steps…"

A strange look crossed Green Hibiscus's face.

"You and that Cloud Knight have completed the first step. The second step—"

"Cut the crap. Spit it out," Leon said, his face screaming one word: hurry.

More impatient than the King of Haste himself.

Green Hibiscus's eyes turned cold.

"Simple. You two duel here. The one who survives becomes an official Sower."

Da Chun's eyes widened.

"Wait a sec! Hold on! I came to cure my mortality sickness, not to die. You didn't mention a deathmatch before!"

"No duel? Fine, but then you can't leave this… huh?"

Green Hibiscus froze, and everyone behind him was equally dumbfounded.

They all saw Leon, without warning, draw the long blade from Da Chun's waist.

One slash—

And Da Chun's head was severed.

Blood splattered as Da Chun died miserably before their eyes.

"No need for a duel now, right?"

Leon stuck out his tongue, licking the warm blood off the blade's surface.

That perverse expression sent chills down Green Hibiscus and the others' spines.

What a ruthless outsider!

"Very good… very good. The Medicine King's Secret Transmission needs talents like you!"

"Great deeds don't fuss over trifles. I declare you an official Sower. Pick a codename."

"White Owl."

"Hahaha, no problem. Great name."
