Grace's POV
"But… I'll miss you so much…" Ramirez's voice cracked with sorrow upon learning she wouldn't be able to reach her youngest daughter for quite some time.

I knew Amara occupied a sacred corner of Ramirez's heart. She had become the emotional anchor Ramirez desperately needed during the dark years following her husband's imprisonment for multiple counts of child sexual assault. While I understood Ramirez longed to rebuild her relationship with me, I could see the bitter resentment she harbored over what I had done to our family created an insurmountable wall between us.
I had torn our family apart and obliterated Ramirez's standing in the community by exposing her husband's crimes against those innocent girls. The aftermath forced Ramirez into grueling double shifts at menial jobs in distant towns while single-handedly raising her daughters, as every door in our hometown slammed shut in her face.
