"Yawn!"
Seeing Li Qingyuan looking like he hadn't slept, Rose immediately walked over to him with concern.
"Qingyuan, didn't you get enough rest?"
"I've been getting inspired these past few days, so I can't sleep at night!" He had been working almost around the clock these past two days, manufacturing explosives and coolant during the day, and then sneaking off to smash steel plates in the hold at night.
After learning that the current Sulfurized Steel technology had a fatal flaw, he began to work day and night.
Because it was too noisy during the day, he could only sneak off to smash the ship when no one was around at night.
He poured the coolant onto the steel plates in the hold, waited about ten minutes, and after the steel plates in the hold began to frost over, he slowly tapped them with a small hammer.
The Sulfurized Steel plates looked perfectly normal on the surface after being tapped with the small hammer, but upon closer inspection, tiny patterns could be seen etched across them.
These patterns were so subtle that it was difficult to notice anything unusual, even with a close look.
Under normal circumstances, there wouldn't be any problems. Even if struck by marine life, unless it was a shark, whale, or swordfish – large, powerful creatures – it wouldn't be a big deal.
But if hit by the shockwave of an explosion!
There was no doubt that these plates would shatter like glass.
Forty-eight hours of continuous, high-intensity labor, while simultaneously trying to avoid being discovered, was a difficult task for Li Qingyuan.
It was only because of his youthful body that he was able to complete it. If he were still in his previous body, which had been plagued by various sub-health issues, he probably wouldn't have gotten anything done.
"Do you have a new poem? Could you tell it to me?" Rose's eyes sparkled as she pulled out a small notebook, ready to write it down.
"Some other time. I probably need to rest right now." He yawned again. He really wasn't in the mood to deal with this naive girl.
The mission time was tonight, and he needed to conserve his energy to deal with any unexpected events that might occur.
"Are you going to sleep? But it's nine in the morning!" Rose looked at the clock on the wall in surprise, unable to understand his body clock.
"Rose, you should know that as a poet, my biological clock is different from ordinary people. The best and most excited state of mind for me is in the late night or early morning."
"I understand! Then please rest well, I will stop the others." A glint of light flashed in Rose's eyes, and then she nodded.
He wasn't interested in understanding what Rose understood. Li Qingyuan, who had stayed up for two consecutive nights, then entered his dream.
"Ugh!"
He didn't know how long he had slept before he woke up from his sweet dream.
"Say, why does it feel like there's someone else in bed?"
"Rose, what are you doing here?"
Li Qingyuan looked at the woman beside him, then at the sky outside. He immediately felt a bit uneasy.
Honestly, while he certainly wasn't a saint, he definitely wasn't the type to lose his mind over a woman.
Rose had been subtly flirting with him these past few days, and he'd managed to resist with immense self-control. The main reason was that he didn't want to cause any trouble.
The reason he was doing so well on the Titanic was primarily because he knew the plot and had put on a disguise. But if he got involved with Rose, who knew what kind of messy things would happen.
When you have the ability, messing around is called enjoying life. When you don't have the ability and still try to mess around, that's just asking for death.
That was why he hadn't responded to Rose's advances.
But he really couldn't understand why this woman would be in his bed.
"Qingyuan, you're awake!"
Rose seemed much more casual than he was, not at all concerned about being unclothed as she greeted him casually.
"Um, why are you here?" After a moment's thought, Li Qingyuan decided he should ask.
Admittedly, the question was a bit too direct, but he really had just woken up after sleeping all day!
If this woman was trying to latch onto him, he wouldn't accept it.
"I came to get you for the evening banquet, but when I arrived, I found you were still asleep. Plus, I was a little tired, so I just borrowed your bed for a while!" Rose said without blushing or changing expression.
Right, I believe you!
Looking at Rose's brazen expression, Li Qingyuan knew he was being taken advantage of.
He'd always heard Western women were bold and passionate, and now he was seeing it firsthand.
However, he didn't realize that if he truly didn't want a certain "happily ever after" with Rose, he should have kept his distance from the start. Instead, he'd let her... assets... sway him, leading him to agree to let her assist him.
Li Qingyuan figured he needed someone to help him with the work anyway. Having Rose was better than some old, unattractive guy, at least she was easy on the eyes, right?
But from Rose's perspective, this poet from the Far East was clearly interested in her, only held back by the inherent reserve of the East.
After some thought, Rose decided to be proactive.
After all, the ship was arriving in New York the day after tomorrow, and judging by Cal's behavior these past few days, she'd likely be locked away in a mansion and unable to leave once they reached America.
So, to avoid regrets, Rose decided to make things a done deal.
In her opinion, it was better to give her first time to someone she found appealing than to her fiancé, whom she didn't even like.
The following plot points are rather unremarkable. Although Li Qingyuan had been trying to avoid trouble, it would seem disingenuous to decline when the other party had practically delivered it to him.
(Three thousand words omitted!)
"Mr. Li, where's Rose? Didn't she say she was going to ask you to attend the banquet?" An hour later, when Cal saw Li Qingyuan in the banquet hall, he immediately asked in confusion.
Cal had been very uneasy about his fiancée's behavior. However, after getting to know Li Qingyuan over the past few days, he felt that the man was a true gentleman. He was completely reassured to know Rose was with him.
Moreover, Li Qingyuan had already signed a preliminary investment plan with the Hockley Group on behalf of Prince Qing, with the first installment amounting to 150,000 pounds.
With the assistance of such a large sum of money, even if Cal knew that Rose would be taken advantage of by the other party, he felt it was inconsequential.
As long as the bottom line wasn't crossed, right?
