Chapter 38 - Mantis Giant

David, Ollie, and the other three followed Li Qingyuan out of the Supermarket and crept towards the Pharmacy next door.

Visibility was very low in the thick fog, but fortunately, the Pharmacy was right next to the Supermarket. The group of six reached the Pharmacy's door in just over ten seconds.

"Damn, they didn't even close the door!" David muttered under his breath when he saw the Pharmacy's glass door wide open.

How big must someone's heart be to not close the door after seeing such a strange, thick fog?

But obviously, no one would answer this question because even standing at the door, they could see that the inside was filled with white, fluffy, thread-like objects.

"This is a spider web!" Ollie swallowed hard. They'd been eating and drinking well in the Supermarket for the past few days and hadn't encountered any major difficulties. Seeing this scene suddenly was really a bit much.

"Take a few steps forward, just make sure you can burn everything!" Li Qingyuan clapped his hands and instructed everyone.

"Hiss!"

A Parasitic Spider, the size of a tire, suddenly leaped down from the ceiling, baring its fangs at the people standing at the doorway, seemingly roaring.

If it had been anyone else, they might have been startled by such a terrifying monster, but the group that came out this time were all skilled individuals selected from the survivors. Each of them had at least taken the lives of several Skeleton Monster Birds. Although this Spider was ugly, it was far from enough to make them lose their fighting spirit.

David raised the Flamethrower in his hand and shot it at the Spider. The Parasitic Spider was just about to spit silk and bind the warm bed in front of it, but it was drenched in high-intensity flames.

"Squeak—"

The Spider's eight legs struggled slightly, and then it was still. The vitality of these things was actually not very strong; one might even say it was fragile.

Seeing the carbonized Spider, Li Qingyuan couldn't help but think in his heart, if the monsters in the mist were only of this level, then perhaps the American government of this world could really accomplish the so-called great feat of opening up new territories in a different world.

Admittedly, the size of these monsters was dozens or even hundreds of times larger than the creatures on Earth, but they didn't have any special abilities.

Looking at the fate of ancient creatures like the blue whale and dinosaurs, it's clear that without special abilities, relying solely on size isn't enough. Unless you're unbelievably massive, you'll just become a target for modern military forces.

However, how this mission world develops isn't his concern. He needs to solve the immediate problem!

"Be especially careful of the ceiling. Spiders are ambush predators," he warned his subordinates. The group slowly entered the Pharmacy.

Whoosh!

An Incendiary Grenade was thrown directly into the depths, immediately igniting into green flames upon contact with the spiderwebs.

Screech! Screech! Screech!

Amidst the flames, countless Spiders emitted mournful cries. These were newly hatched, each about the size of a coin, and their sheer number was unsettling.

"Clear them out quickly!" He incinerated two Spiders lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce. The rest of the group quickly switched to burn mode.

"We're awesome!"

Watching the pharmacy burn fiercely, everyone shouted excitedly.

The six of them had wiped out thousands of monster spiders. If word got out, they would definitely be heroes!

Of course, there were definitely some that escaped, but it didn't matter. By the time those little spiders that ran out grew into big spiders that could threaten humans, this mission world should have ended.

"Get out of the way!"

Just as everyone was starting to celebrate, Li Qingyuan sensed a sense of crisis descending from the sky.

Without thinking, he kicked Ollie.

'Crack!'

A giant scythe, fully three meters long, swept through the air, narrowly missing Ollie's calf.

"Aahhh!"

Screams erupted from all sides instantly, as a giant monster that suddenly appeared shattered everyone's heroic dreams.

Mantis Giant!

This thing looked very much like a giant mantis, except its height of over ten meters and its pincer-like forelimbs, which were more than three meters long, were really too far from a mantis.

Whether from its size or its appearance, this thing was completely different from the three trash monsters that had been eliminated. It was definitely a predatory creature.

"Aaaah!!!"

David raised his flamethrower and shot it at the monster in the fog. The five-meter-long fiery dragon instantly dispersed the smoke, and the Mantis Giant's forelimbs were directly caught by the flames.

However, the flames that could carbonize the Parasitic Spiders were not a fatal threat to the huge Mantis Giant. At most, it was like a person being burned by a lighter.

"Gah!"

The Mantis Giant roared in anger, the sound reverberating in the ears.

Well, such a huge creature, even without any special abilities, its tough shell alone made it a formidable weapon of war!

"Bang!"

Ollie aimed and fired at the Mantis Giant. This little guy seemed unremarkable, but he was actually a sharpshooter, having once won the state shooting championship.

At the very least, his aim was much better than Li Qingyuan's half-baked shooting skills!

"Gah!"

The Mantis Giant, under continuous attack, grew furious. These food items had actually hurt it, which infuriated the Mantis Giant beyond measure.

Just coming for a pre-dinner snack, and I got bitten by the food.

"Get out of the way!" Seeing the Mantis Giant's forelimbs slash again, everyone immediately scattered to escape.

But compared to its enormous size, human legs were simply too slow.

The Mantis Giant wasn't fast, but its forelimbs, when fully extended, were a full ten meters long. With such a huge attack range, unless you were as slow as a sloth, a normal person would definitely not be able to run away.

"Ah!"

A nameless unlucky fellow was caught. He screamed in the air while glaring at Li Qingyuan with hatred.

If things had gone normally, he should have been able to dodge it, but Li Qingyuan had directly pushed him, causing him to be caught by the Mantis Giant's pincer.

No choice, watching the old man about to be cut in half, Li Qingyuan could only shrug.

If you don't die, then by the law of inertia, it should be David who dies, the one who can't run fast while carrying a flamethrower!

Choosing between zero point one points and a single point, any smart person knows what to do.

Anyway, everyone was just running for their lives a moment ago, so nobody knew what he did except for the person involved.

That David fellow didn't even know he had just taken a stroll through the gates of hell. Looking at the giant monster slowly retreating, he felt a little scared.
