Chapter 22 - Tatum's Ex-fiance

Gita's feet were hurting from walking around in her heels. She just wanted to get back to her low budget hotel and take them off.

As she came out of the hotel, she saw Tatum, about to get into his car. He also saw her and stopped.

"Are you leaving?" Tatum asked. "Yes. My hotel is at Ners Street."

Tatum looked at her feet and smiled. "I think your feet could use some rest. I will give you a ride."

"I am grateful." Gita didn't reject the ride, especially, from a handsome man. She got into the car and Tatum drove away.

"Did you get all the material you came for?" Tatum asked curiously.

"Not really. I was hoping to interview Mr. Oxford Samson, but Daily Mail got ahead of me. My supervisor is going to scold me when I get back to New Jersey." Gita smiled bitterly.

"So, if you get the interview with Oxford Samson, your supervisor won't scold you?" He asked.

"Yes, but that's not possible. Mr. Samson only takes one interview per year. Now that Daily Mail got it, there's no way, I'm getting another interview. I guess I have to buy some cotton and stuff into my ears on Monday morning, so I don't have to hear my supervisor's mean words."

"We can't have that. I happen to know the secretary of Mr. Samson. I can arrange for you to meet him." Tatum offered.

Gita couldn't believe her luck. "Can you really do that?" She instantly grabbed Tatum's hand.

"He's my university alumni." Tatum said with a chuckle. The way Gita got excited melted his heart.

Gita took away her hands. "I'm sorry. I just got carried away."

"Hold on, I'll be back." Tatum pulled over in front of a shoe store, and got down.

Gita watched him go into the store and returned with a pair of Zara sandals.

"I figured you could use this." Tatum gave the box to Gita.

"I... Thank you." Gita's face couldn't hide her admiration. She looked at the sandals. They were in her size. She quickly changed into them and placed the heels inside the box.

"You can put it at the back." Tatum took the box and placed it at the back seat. He did his seatbelt and drove away.

They soon arrived at Gita's hotel and Tatum pulled over. "It's this the hotel your company got for you?" He asked.

"I'm still an entry level reporter. If I want to be treated better, I have to work hard. Thank you for bringing me back and the sandals too." Gita was grateful to him.

"Let me have your number. I need to get in touch when I arrange the meeting, right?" Tatum requested.

"Right." Gita removed her phone. "My number is 0105575..." She mentioned her number for him. "My name is Gita. Gita Dame."

"Gita Dame. Are you by chance related to June Dame?" Tatum asked curiously.

"Oh, how did you know that? June is my cousin." Gita said and they both chuckled.

"You two have the same ocean eyes, but yours are prettier to me." Tatum complimented her.

"Thank you." Gita smiled.

"Okay. I will give you a call tomorrow." Tatum smiled.

"Alright. Good night." Gita waited until he was gone before she entered. At the entrance, she suddenly remembered she didn't get his name. "Damn it. I didn't get his name."

Gita heard a knock on the door and came back to her senses. "Come in!" She quickly wrapped a towel around her body and stepped out of the bathroom.

"It's raining. I brought you a cup of coffee." June smiled and gave the cup of coffee to Gita.

"Where is Sari?" Gita asked.

"In her room. She's asleep." June walked to the window.

"It's almost autumn. I bet the flowery path down Oscar street must be breathtaking in Canada." Gita stood next to June, in the towel.

"Do you regret it?" June asked suddenly.

"Regret what?"

"Following me to the USA."

"I have never regretted any decision I make. I'm happy to be here. I couldn't imagine being stuck in Canada alone." Gita smiled and sipped the coffee. "What about you? Do you regret it?"

"Not at all. I would still make the same decision even if I go back in time. But sometimes I miss home, you know. I miss my little sister. Sabrina is turning eighteen this December." June sighed.

"Have you tried getting in touch with her?" Gita looked at June.

"No. She must hate me, and think I'm such a terrible person, right?"

"You didn't stay in touch because your parents cut ties with you. She will understand."

"You think so?" June's voice cracked.

"Sabrina has always been mature for her age. Don't worry." Gita placed her hand on June's shoulder.

"I'm going to get some sleep. Make sure you wear something warm, don't catch a cold." June hugged Gita before going out.

"Don't jinx me." Gita chuckled.

Liberty Hotel

Kareena paced about in her hotel room, waiting for her manager. Since Ziggy left, she hadn't heard from him, and was getting impatient. She was worried that something might have happened, that she wasn't aware of.

The door opened, and Siara stepped in.

"Tell me, what did you find out?" Kareena asked anxiously.

"Kareena, something happened. Ziggy left the US for the UAE this morning. I called Frank and he told me that the Samson Group bought Chase Paper Network, and the CEO there is now Tatum. Apparently, he's the son of Oxford Samson, but has been keeping a low profile."

"What? How is this possible? His name is Tatum Green, not Samson." Kareena bit her lips.

"Apparently, he doesn't use the Samson family name. He uses his grandma's last name. Do you think, yesterday's meeting triggered all these sudden changes? I can't get in touch with Ziggy." Siara asked.

"If you ask me this, who do I get the answers from?" Kareena snapped. She bit her lips so hard that blood came out.

"Kareena, your lips." Siara quickly grabbed a pair of tissues for Kareena.

"If Tatum is the son of Oxford Samson, then, it means he's my ex-fiance. His family and mine are long time friends. His father even arranged for us to get engaged but he suddenly got sick, and almost died. I didn't want to become a widow even before marriage, so I asked my father to call off the engagement."

"What? You never told me this, Kareena." Siara was shocked.

"It was in high school, and I had just started my acting career. I never heard of him again, and even thought he was dead or still sick. Who would have thought he would turn out to be Tatum?" Kareena smirked.

"Do you have anything in mind, Kareena?" Siara asked.

"Siara, I need to go home. It's time for me to go back home. Get ready, and let's go to Newark." Kareena had figured everything out.

Instead of fighting a lost battle, it was better to get new allies, and what better way than being the fiancée of Tatum Samson.

Mory Estates Apartment 507

Gita stretched her hands and yawned. She had just finished drafting the materials she got, during her stack out in the last week.

After submitting them to Mr. TT, she got up and went outside the apartment, to join June and Sari, whom were outside.

"Aren't they cute? I wish I could join them." June said as they sat on the bench outside the apartment, watching the old folks dancing at a distance.

"Let's join them." Gita pulled June along as she ran towards the park.

"Hey, she's not wearing her mask..." Sari shouted. She reluctantly ran after them.

Gita got in line and pushed June in front of one of the old women. She began to dance and challenged June to join in.

June chuckled and joined in. Sari caught up and laughed. One of the women beckoned on her to join.

"It's so fun, Sari." Gita took a few steps back as she spoke.

Sari decided to join them. Together they all began to dance.

Unbeknownst to them, someone was live streaming the dance, and the Internet became obsessed, with the viewership blowing up.

The three ladies had no idea that their simple act was turning the Internet on fire. They were simply enjoying a time of their lives, dancing with the old folks.

After dancing, they became relieved and happy.

"This is the first time we've had young ladies join us for our weekly dance. Come here, let me introduce you to everyone." The property management president, Mrs. Golda spoke. She was extremely happy to see June and her sisters join them.

"Everyone, these ladies are the lovely women staying in apartment 507." Mrs. Golda introduced them.

"Hi... My name is Sari, this is June, and Gita." Sari replied.

They shook hands with the old folks cheerfully.

"Grandma, our lives stream just hit 950k viewership. Everyone is praising them for joining in the dance." The boy who was doing the live streaming shouted. His grandma was Mrs. Golda.

"Huh? What live stream?" Gita took her phone out and yelled. "June, Sari, look at this."

"Mrs. Golda, see you later." Sari pulled June and Gita away, back to the apartment.

"I can't believe we went viral just by dancing. June, everyone is praising you." Gita moved closer to June.

"June has gotten more followers across all platforms. This is a good PR without the hard work." Sari was busy checking June's social media accounts.

June smiled. "I have Gita to thank. But I also enjoyed myself. I haven't been so carefree in a long time."
