Chapter 23 - Goodbye, Matt

A few days ago, after Ethan was discharged from the hospital, Tony wanted to convince his friend to stay. However, Ethan was adamant about returning home to rebuild:

"Tony! There's no need to say more. You could offer me any salary, and it wouldn't change my mind. I have to go back! The people there need my help. Just like you found your own mission, I've found my own path."

Seeing the hope in Ethan's face, Tony realized he wasn't joking and sensed his determination. Tony smiled and stopped trying to persuade him: "Have a good trip, Ethan!"

After a hug at the airport, Ethan left Tony with a final word: Zi-O has his own reasons for approaching you, but I can assure you he won't harm you.

Iron Man was still a favorite topic for the public, but compared to the initial frenzy, the uproar had subsided. At least, the streets weren't packed with Iron Man cosplayers anymore.

On Saturday night, the young men and women from school were attending their favorite parties, including Peter and Ned. Only Zed slipped away directly after school, which Ned complained about.

"Zed! You've only ever come to Peter and my birthday parties! You've never been to a school dance! They're so much fun! Come on!"

Peter, having known Zed for years, was well aware of his temperament. "Alright, Ned, no need to shout. Zed really doesn't like those kinds of parties. He has his own things he likes to do, so leave him alone."

These boring gatherings were, in Zed's opinion, a waste of time. More importantly, Zed planned to find Matt tonight and resolve the issue with his watch.

Because of the previous incident with Jessica's watch, it was likely in the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra. Given their nature, how could they possibly resist causing trouble?

To be safe, Zed intended to scout the area first and determine if it was secure. Activating the Golden Eye, Zed leisurely strolled into Hell's Kitchen, observing the entire area as a passerby.

It had just gotten dark, and the people who lived a nocturnal life hadn't yet come out. Even if Matt were going to act as a vigilante, he wouldn't be out at this hour.

The outer edges of Hell's Kitchen, visible from other districts, were still quite glamorous. But the further in one went, the greater the disparity. Some bars and nightclubs were lavish, while some corners were filled with mud and filth.

As time passed, the gangs, pickpockets, and dancers active in Hell's Kitchen gradually opened for business. Zed, walking alone on the street, was targeted by a group of thugs

"Yellow monkey, hand over your money, or I'll carve a sculpture on your face with this knife! Understand?" One of the thugs pinned Zed against the wall, threatening him viciously, while theatrically twirling a knife in his hand.

Zed, of course, wouldn't be intimidated, but he needed to be robbed. He needed some witnesses to the "fact" that he had come to Hell's Kitchen and left in a sorry state.

Trembling, he took out the old wallet he had prepared in advance and handed it to the thug. Seeing Zed's cowardly appearance, the thug lowered his remaining guard. He took the wallet, opened it, and saw only three twenty-dollar bills and a small card specifically for slipping under a hotel door.

"Hahahahaha!!! This kid came here to… to get a hooker! Hahaha! Kid! You're still a virgin, aren't you? I can't… I can't take it anymore! Let me catch my breath!" The thug in front of him was laughing so hard he was about to fall over.

"A little punk dares to come to Hell's Kitchen to… to lose his innocence! My god! He's got more guts than I did when I was a kid! Hahahahaha~~"

The others were practically rolling on the ground with laughter. One of the few who could still stand said to Zed, "Kid, sixty bucks in Hell's Kitchen will only get you some old hag, can you… handle it?"

"Next time, remember to bring more, we welcome you! Hahahaha!!"

These thugs helped each other away from the corner. Zed, who had been trembling, calmed down, his gaze becoming cold:

"Phase one, complete."

If you wanted to survive here, you needed to be well-informed. The other thugs and pickpockets wouldn't waste their time on a young man who had already been cleaned out, so they just watched Zed slink away from Hell's Kitchen.

Zed's scouting trip wasn't without purpose. During this time, Zed had already mapped out most of the area. When he "accidentally" passed Matt's law office, he didn't find any trace of agents.

But the more nothing happens, the more abnormal it is. Matt himself is a superhuman, and even if Matt himself poses no threat to society, he should be under surveillance. And after such a big explosion at the warehouse, Matt, who was present, couldn't possibly not be on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s watch list.

Unless... those passersby were all S.H.I.E.L.D.'s best agents.

Zed now has a seventy percent certainty that S.H.I.E.L.D. is monitoring Matt and waiting for him to appear. He's just not sure whether his watch is in Nick Fury's hands or Alexander Pierce's. But no matter what, he anticipates a tough battle tonight.

Using Golden Eye to forge a surveillance video of himself returning to the small warehouse, Zed disappeared into a dark corner.

And Kamen Rider Zi-O had just arrived in Hell's Kitchen. Then Zed called Woz and Kuroto Dan, telling them to follow him from a distance.

"Phase two, complete."

Hawkeye, wearing a high-tech stealth suit, was hiding under a rooftop shed, constantly observing the situation near Matt's residence with binoculars, and reporting the situation to Nick Fury via communicator:

"Everything is normal around here, no suspicious figures have appeared. Sir, we've been lying in wait for two weeks. Zi-O hasn't shown up. Could it be that Matt has already met Zi-O but hasn't informed us?"

Obeying orders was Hawkeye's duty. No matter how tedious the wait, it wouldn't affect his state of mind. But that didn't mean Hawkeye lacked his own opinions.

"No! Because Matt insists on his justice, he understands the danger of Zi-O better than anyone else." Nick Fury truly believed in Matt.

Beep! Beep beep! Beep!

The alarm on Hawkeye's person suddenly went off. "Sir, the target is here."

Zed chose an open five-story parking garage to wait for Matt and some uninvited guests.

The parking garage had no enclosed walls, so he could jump out and escape using the Time Mazine at any time. The large number of vehicles might provide cover for the enemy, but there were no better options nearby.

After sending the location to Matt's lawyer work number, Zed lay on top of a car, closing his eyes to rest.

Matt finished a full day of lawyer work and went home to rest for a bit before going out to fight crime. As he lay on the sofa, his phone suddenly received a text message. The message, when read aloud, only contained an address.

Although the text seemed nonsensical, the only person who wanted to meet with him recently was Zi-O. After pondering for a moment, Matt didn't hesitate. He took out the alarm Natasha had left him last time and pressed it.

As for the contents of the text message, Matt believed that S.H.I.E.L.D. had probably seen it even earlier than he had. After changing into a crimson bodysuit, Matt grabbed his billy club and set off.

Sure enough, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had already arrived at the target location, evacuating the crowd and setting up a perimeter. Some of the normally lawless thugs had never seen such a display and were a little intimidated. Experienced gang bosses, on the other hand, were on the phone, one call after another, ordering their underlings to hide and not to show themselves.

At a time like this, to come out and cause trouble for these fully armed special forces was like playing with fire.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. team, having received prior orders, didn't immediately enter the parking garage, and they pretended not to notice Daredevil sneaking in.

After Matt reached the fifth floor of the parking garage, Zed, who was lying on top of a car, slowly sat up, exceptionally arrogant as he played with his Faiz phone, "Matt, can you tell me the reason why you're working with those people outside?"

"You're not a good person, and your actions aren't exactly righteous. I have no choice but to cooperate with them. You need to be effectively monitored, and for you, being controlled by the government isn't necessarily a bad thing," Matt answered Zed's question honestly, without any intention of hiding anything.

"Ah~ I see! How could I have overlooked the issue of people's personalities again? It was an accident last time, and now it's happening again. Sigh~ When will I ever become smarter?" Zed self-reflected, then said to Matt's back, "You don't have to hide anymore, come out!"

Natasha calmly walked out from the shadows behind, her black bodysuit equipped with new power gauntlets and greaves.

Natasha instinctively used an extremely seductive tone, "I've been on this mission regarding you for almost two months now. Don't you think it's very ungentlemanly to keep a lady waiting for so long?"

"No! No! No! Don't pull that on me. I wouldn't dare touch the famous Black Widow. Where's your partner, Hawkeye? Hiding on the building across the street, ready to snipe me?"

"If you come with us and submit to control, Hawkeye won't shoot you," Natasha tried to persuade him.

"You think that's possible?" Zed's mocking tone came from inside the Zi-O mask. "You people at S.H.I.E.L.D. aren't that naive, are you? I — the most wicked Ohma Zi-O — submit to someone else's control?"

"Then!"

"Then!"

Both sides started to attack each other halfway through their sentences. Faiz's laser beam from the phone had a small range, but its power was immense. Natasha and Matt were forced to dodge behind pillars.

Natasha's pistol bullets only sparked off Zi-O's armor. Seeing the pistol was ineffective, Natasha and Matt, in perfect sync, ran in opposite directions, preparing to flank Zed.

Zed's marksmanship wasn't great to begin with, and he couldn't shoot at two targets simultaneously: "It's wrong of you to make me annoyed!"
