Chapter 9 - I meet the slenderman-like photography president

It was Saturday and I had arrived at the school gates, the club meet would start at 10:30 so I arrived at 10:00, I was told I didn't have to wear my school uniform because they were not needed for when clubs are in session so I brought what first came to mind at the time, A pair of black jeans and a green long sleeve t-shirt with a flannel, the Photography club had meetings on Wednesdays and Sundays, though I heard most people in the club tended to only go on Wednesdays.

I pushed on the gate, and it creaked open without any sort of resistance. No one had decided to keep it open and just shut it behind them as they entered, guess I would do the same.

*****

I peaked through the window of the club room just barely sticking my head out in front of the glass. Yamada was inside as well as 3 other people, I might as well get it over with, that's when I turned the door knob and entered.

Everyone stopped talking to each other as soon as the door creaked open, their gazes fixated on me. A girl with Black hair tied into a bun and brown eyes put her hand up and waved towards me, the small group they were talking to one of the people of which was Yamada stopped staring at me and began talking to me as the girl that had waved at me walked up to greet me along with Yamada who was wearing A black t-shirt and a pair of brown cargo pants, and she was carrying her satchel. She wasn't wearing her glasses today for some reason.

"Heya, you're Sato Masaichi right?"

"Hi, Yes that's me, do I turn in my form to you?"

"Oh no you don't give it to me, you give it to the president."

"Alright, thank you."

The girl smiled

"No problem."

The girl then walked away and picked up a broom and swept the room, though I hadn't noticed it before. The floor was an absolute mess, strewn about with loose pieces of paper, dust, and dirt.

"The club is quite small, only about 10 people total, usually only those 3 are here on Saturdays. The president of the club is that blonde guy, his name is Matayoshi Masaki."

As she was saying that I noticed how nervous she sounded, and how fidgety her posture was, and how messy her hair was.

"Mhm, hey Yamada?"

"Yeah, What's up?"

"Are you doing alright?"

She put her head down and stayed silent, before she looked around before the room and told me.

"I um, was really relieved that you said yes, before that I was extremely nervous about having to be in a club with no one I knew, but now I have someone I know that I can go out with every weekend to do assignments."

I crossed my arms and raised my brow, she had not mentioned that we had to do assignments before I came here.

"Do assignments, What do you mean by that?"

"We have to go out once every week and take a picture of something we deem interesting with this camera."

She unlocked the strap of her satchel and dug around inside it before stopping, and pulling out a camera, I gasped at how high quality it looked, it had to be at least 50,000 yen.

"Good god that looks expensive."

"It is, the president told me that it cost 100,000 yen per camera."

"I do not trust myself to carry that."

"Well good, because I'm going to be the one to carry it."

Yamada burst into a smile, chuckling and putting the camera back in her satchel, before pointing towards the president once again.

"Anyways you should turn in your form, don't delay the inevitable Sato."

I put up a half efforted salute before sarcastically replying with:

"Mam yes mam."

I walked towards Matayoshi or atleast the guy who was supposed to be Matayoshi, he was about a solid half foot taller than me, and his hair was blonde, though he looked gangly, he was talking to someone else, the guy in question had brown hair which looked gloomy, and covered his ears, he was wearing a baggy hoodie and basketball shorts, they appeared to be talking about the club and such.

"We have only gotten 4 new members since last week, I think people just aren't that interested in photography Matayoshi."

"Kido, are you deaf? Well actually you nearly are but that's besides the point, the club isn't going to be disbanded as long as I'm here."

"You're a third year, you have 2 more years until this club is disbanded!"

"Stop thinking about that, live life to the fullest, enjoy the club while it's around."

"Whatever."

Kido or at least that's what I think his name was, stormed away and exited the club room, camera in hand, It looked like he was angry about the lack of members this club had, good thing Me and Yamada were joining, right?

Matayoshi looked in my direction and squinted his eyes, and saw that I was holding a registration form to join the club.

"I see we have a new club member, what is your name?"

"Sato Masaichi, pleased to meet you."

We shook hands and I handed him my form, before he put it on the table behind him.

"So what's the whole situation with you and Yamada?"

Eh? What did he mean by that?

I put my hands in my pockets and remembered what happened on Friday, the way everyone had looked at us, no doubt had become a rumor, spreading like wild fire despite it being the weekend.

"We are friends, and she begged me to join the club."

"Friends huh?"

He paused and a sly smirk quickly spread across his face before he spoke up again.

"Alright sure, anyways you both are doing assignments together, or at least that's what your 'friend' insisted on you doing, so you both will share a camera, by next sunday I expect you to turn in a printed photo of whatever you want, you don't have to do anything specific this time."

I bowed my head and raised it back up.

"Alright, I'll do my best!"

"Ok then."

I walked away from Matayoshi and back to Yamada, who was sitting silently at a desk looking at her phone.

"Yo, Yamada?"

She looked up from her phone and gazed into my eyes, before putting it into her satchel.

"Yes, what is it?"

"Do you have a computer?"

Yamada's eyes lid up at she held her satchel tight, her mouth stuck open, unable to say anything, until she calmed down.

"Yeah, do you have one as well?"

"Yes I do."

Yamada looked as giddy as a grade schooler when I said that, she was probably excited at the prospect of being able to play with me on the weekends, though If I did Yammy would probably not be happy, but I'm sure he would live.

"Could I get your gamer tag for zeam, yamada?"

"Oh yeah sure, can you get me a piece of paper?"

"No problem."

I walked over to one of the drawers and began to look for a sheet of paper rummaging through one after another until I found a lone disappointing sheet of paper on my 4th drawer. I gave it to yamada, who quickly took a pen from her satchel and wrote down her tag, and then folded the piece of paper before giving it to me.

"Do not lose it, Hotshot, I don't want to have to write it down again."

"Ill probably add you sometime next weekend, so don't expect me to play today."

"That's fine, I expected that anyways."

I thought to myself for a second, staying here was getting boring, I wanted to get out and do something.

"Wana get out of here?"

"I heard there was a new arcade opened just 10 blocks from here, wanna try going there?"

"Absolutely, I'm bored as hell."

After that we went to Matayoshi and the girl that talked to me, and they gave us their approval before leaving, despite fully knowing we had free will and could leave whenever we pleased.

Yamada and I were walking in the hall, she quickly sped up ahead of me and stood in front of me, walking backwards at the same pace as me with a wide grin.

"Race ya outside, hotshot."

"Hey- wait up!"

Before I even said that she turned around and bolted through the empty hallways, I quickly followed suit, chasing after her.

Man, I was starting to love the eccentric side of her.
