Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Phantom Horse Girl

Some say it was a Golden Generation, producing many legendary horse girls with exceptional talent. Whether it was Special Week, who defended her honor in the Japan Cup, or Saint-King Halo, who finally broke through and became a G1 horse girl, they would all become legends recorded in history. Not to mention the Hegemon King of the Century's End, T.M. Opera O, who debuted just a year after them but achieved an unprecedented undefeated year.

All the horse racing fans who had witnessed it would probably never forget this generation.

But besides these horse girls destined to be remembered in history, there was another special horse girl in this generation.

She shared the same bloodline as Saint-King Halo. Before her sister had even awakened, she had already carried the glory of a first-class racer. She had been undefeated since her debut, constantly suppressing the strong horse girls of her generation, Admire Vega and Narita Top Road. And in the legendary Satsuki Sho, she had defeated the Hegemon King of the Century's End, T.M. Opera O, in a one-of-a-kind showdown.

Such a horse girl would surely write even more glory in the future.

That's what all the spectators thought back then.

As if heaven were jealous of her talent, she suddenly announced an injury after the Satsuki Sho and was hospitalized, suspending her activities. The audience waited anxiously for the day she would return to the track. But what they received in return was a pale obituary.

The horse girl Celestial Weave had passed away due to her severe injuries.

Opening her eyes again, Celestial Weave clenched her fists, confused. There was no sensation of touch. Through her translucent hands, she could even see the sky on the other side.

"A... ghost?" she muttered to herself. She couldn't understand why the system would have her return to this world in this state after the scenario mission had ended.

"Yume..."

Suddenly, a familiar call came from behind her. She subconsciously turned her head. A familiar shade of gold appeared before her. It was Narita Top Road. She looked the same as she remembered, just a bit more forlorn.

"You can see me?" Celestial Weave was pleasantly surprised. Although she didn't know why, she thought it would be nice to be able to say goodbye to her friend.

But Narita Top Road acted as if she hadn't heard, walking straight through her body. "Eh?"

It was only then that Celestial Weave finally looked around. Under the rustling leaves, the cicadas chirped irritably. Below them, rows of stones were neatly arranged like buildings. This was a cemetery. And Narita Top Road was, of course, talking to the Celestial Weave on the tombstone.

"Waaaaah—" Arriving at the tombstone, Narita Top Road's lips moved, but no words came out. Tears streamed down her face like a spring.

Seeing her pitiful state, Celestial Weave suddenly remembered the conversation they had once had. She had asked her what she would do if she lost a G1 race, and her answer had been that she would cry.

"Are you a kid?" Looking at the sobbing Narita Top Road, Celestial Weave couldn't help but smile, responding with the same words again. She extended her translucent hands and slowly, steadily stroked her head, saying softly, "But you're still so kind."

After who knows how long, Narita Top Road, tired from crying, closed her eyes by the tombstone, her head tilted slightly as if leaning against something.

Tap, tap, tap.

The sun was slowly setting, its afterglow casting dancing shadows of leaves on the tombstone. Just as Celestial Weave was wondering how to wake her up so she wouldn't catch a cold, a set of footsteps came from the distance.

She looked and saw that it was Admire Vega.

Arriving at the tombstone, Admire Vega sighed softly at the sight of Narita Top Road, helped her up, and was about to leave. But after a few steps, she suddenly looked back. Celestial Weave instinctively looked around, thinking there was someone else nearby.

Admire Vega opened her mouth, as if wanting to say something, but after a long while, no words came out. It seemed she felt she didn't have the right to say it. It was only then that Celestial Weave realized from her gaze that she was looking at the tombstone, not at the ghostly her.

"We'll come see you again," Admire Vega finally said, swallowing her previous words and managing only this bland sentence.

As a friend, Narita Top Road could freely vent her grief. But what about her? What identity did she have to stand before this tombstone? Even if she had once seen a reflection of her own sister in Celestial Weave due to their similarities, in reality, their interactions had only been on the racetrack. She had never told her what she was thinking. So now, without any identity, she naturally had no right to say the words hidden in her heart.

Watching the two of them walk away, Celestial Weave silently waved. Even though she knew her goodbye couldn't reach them, she still wanted to do it.

After they left, the cemetery returned to its usual quiet. Bored, Celestial Weave was about to wander around when she found that her range of movement was limited to about fifty meters around the tombstone.

"Not just any ghost."

"This is a bound spirit, isn't it," she joked to herself, though there was no one left to respond.

Eventually, she returned to her own spot. Looking at the small tombstone, she rested her chin on her hand and said to herself, "If there's anything stranger than attending your own funeral, it must be seeing your own tombstone." As she spoke, she poked the black and white photo, only to see her finger pass through the stone.

Unconsciously, even the setting sun had dipped below the horizon, and the clear, cold moon slowly rose.

"How much longer do I have to stay here?" she said to herself, counting the leaves on the tree above her. She didn't even dare to count too fast; such an act seemed too extravagant.

"Sorry to keep you waiting!"

As if in response to her words, a familiar, loud voice came from the distance. She turned her head. As expected, it was T.M. Opera O. Unlike the others, this one had brought a whole pile of miscellaneous things with her.

"I really don't get what you're thinking," Celestial Weave said, suddenly laughing at the sight of her.
