Chapter 41
The door creaked and Kairen peeped in, making sure nobody was in sight before sneaking in through the back entrance. He couldn't risk walking past the employee section not today. He didn't want to see Julian, and if it were in his power, he wouldn't want to see Sebastian either.
"I don't know why these people keep leaving this door open, what tha—"
Ms. Jo's voice trailed off. She had heard the faint creak and came to check. To her utmost surprise, she found Kairen posed like a thief, tiptoeing awkwardly across the open space.
Kairen froze mid-step, his eyes wide like a boy caught in mischief.
"Kairen?!" Ms. Jo's voice echoed across the quiet hallway, disbelief laced into the call.
He rushed over quickly, finger pressed to his lips, the other hand fanning his chest in frantic gestures, urging her to lower her voice. His eyes darted nervously around the corridor, like he didn't want anyone to know he was there at all.
