"Brat, are you trying to get yourself killed?!"
When Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan saw Cheng Xiao rush out and block between them, he broke into a cold sweat on the spot. He immediately waved his hand, trying to recall the countless razor-sharp petals he had just released.
Dugu Bo was equally shocked. He never expected that instead of running, Cheng Xiao would actually rush in to take on both their attacks head-on. These were strikes from Title Douluo-level experts! Even if they weren't soul skills, such attacks weren't something ordinary Spirit Masters could ever withstand.
But was Cheng Xiao an ordinary Spirit Master? The answer was clearly no.
After releasing Song of Protection, Cheng Xiao flashed away in an instant. He wasn't foolish enough to pit his Rank 40-level spirit power against the attacks of two Title Douluo. He had only cast the spell to test its defensive power.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Even though Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan tried his best to withdraw the flower-blade petals, a few still struck the barrier created by Song of Protection. Countless sharp blades slashed against the glowing shield like a raging storm. With each impact, crisp metallic sounds rang out, and spiderweb-like cracks rapidly spread across the barrier's surface.
After withstanding for about five seconds, the barrier finally shattered completely.
This scene left both Yue Guan and Dugu Bo utterly stunned.
What in the world was that? Something that could endure the combined assault of two Title Douluo for several seconds before breaking? Cheng Xiao's spirit power was only around Rank 40 — how could he possibly possess such formidable defense? The thought alone defied common sense.
But when they confirmed Cheng Xiao was unharmed, both men silently let out a sigh of relief.
"Chrysanthemum Guan, what's your relationship with Cheng Xiao?"
Dugu Bo's eyes narrowed. He had clearly heard Yue Guan's earlier words, but he wanted to confirm them himself.
"Old poison, what business is it of yours?" Yue Guan cast him a disdainful glance. Seeing Dugu Bo's gloomy face, he couldn't help but sneer. "Fine, I'll tell you anyway. Cheng Xiao is my one and only disciple. What now? Do you plan to lay a hand on him?"
"He's… your disciple?" Dugu Bo was visibly shaken.
Now he finally understood why Cheng Xiao had made him promise that odd condition earlier. So the "person" he didn't want Dugu Bo to fight was none other than this Chrysanthemum Guan!
"That's right, old poison! Didn't expect that, did you?" Yue Guan said smugly, practically glowing with satisfaction at the sight of Dugu Bo's expression — as if the old snake had just swallowed something foul.
"Teacher, please don't say any more."
Seeing that the tension between the two was quickly escalating again, Cheng Xiao hurried to smooth things over. But Dugu Bo's deep, probing gaze made him feel incredibly uneasy.
"Heh. No wonder you made such a request of me. So you were planning this all along." Dugu Bo let out a cold laugh.
"Uh…" Cheng Xiao scratched the back of his head awkwardly. He didn't know how to explain. After all, the history between Dugu Bo and Yue Guan was complicated, to say the least.
"Cheng Xiao, since when did you start hanging around this old poison?" Yue Guan frowned as he descended from midair, clearly puzzled.
"Teacher, let's not talk about that right now," Cheng Xiao said quickly. "I was just about to have lunch with Mister Dugu. Why don't we discuss it while we eat?"
"You're eating with this old poison?!" Yue Guan's eyes widened in disbelief. He cupped Cheng Xiao's face in both hands, exclaiming, "My foolish disciple! This old snake's whole body is toxic — you eat with him and aren't afraid he'll poison your food?!"
Then he turned to glare daggers at Dugu Bo. "Old poison! If you dare harm my disciple, I'll make you regret it for the rest of your miserable life!"
"Scram!" Dugu Bo snapped impatiently, shooting Yue Guan a cold look. He then grabbed Cheng Xiao by the arm, preparing to leave.
Naturally, Yue Guan wouldn't just stand by and watch his disciple get dragged away by his old rival. Especially since his arrival in Heaven Dou City wasn't a coincidence — it was under that person's orders.
So, in the end, Cheng Xiao found himself sandwiched between the two Title Douluo, each holding one of his arms, and practically dragged — half crying, half laughing — into a luxurious hotel.
To avoid attracting attention, Yue Guan personally paid for a private VIP room. Dugu Bo, seeing a chance, shamelessly took advantage by ordering nearly every expensive dish on the menu. Whether he could finish them didn't matter — after all, it wasn't his money.
"Old poison, can you even eat all that?" Yue Guan couldn't hold back anymore as Dugu Bo continued to order dish after dish. Though he wasn't short on money, having to feed his lifelong rival made his heart ache more than losing a fight.
"Heh, Chrysanthemum Guan, you're still this stingy even in front of your disciple? What's wrong, did you spend all your money on that old ghost of yours?" Dugu Bo said with a mocking grin.
He loved watching Yue Guan's face twist in annoyance — clearly disgusted, yet unable to strike him down. It was delightfully satisfying, especially since this same man had once hunted him to the brink of death. Getting under his skin now felt like sweet, poetic revenge.
And so, amidst the squabbling of two bickering Title Douluo, Cheng Xiao slowly and awkwardly finished his meal.
An hour later, after much explanation and coaxing from Cheng Xiao, the two powerhouses finally ended their verbal battle. They each took a long sip of tea, wetting their throats after all the shouting.
Once the waiter cleared the table, Dugu Bo asked, "Kid, are you saying this damned Chrysanthemum actually knows what my herbs are for? You're not pulling my leg, are you?"
"Old poison, your pitiful weeds aren't even worth my time," Yue Guan scoffed.
"Teacher, these herbs really are extraordinary," Cheng Xiao said with a faint smile. "If you saw them for yourself, you'd probably thank Mister Dugu instead."
"Thank him? Don't be ridiculous." Yue Guan waved dismissively. He'd studied plants and herbs for decades. Aside from the immortal herbs of legend, he doubted there was anything in this world that could impress him.
Wait. If even Dugu Bo didn't recognize them, and only he knew their use and effects... could it be that what Cheng Xiao was talking about were… immortal herbs?
The thought hit him like lightning. His expression changed instantly. "Old poison, those herbs of yours — you really don't recognize a single one of them?"
Dugu Bo's face darkened. "Nonsense! If I did, do you think I'd still be sitting here calmly talking to you?"
"Excellent!" Yue Guan slammed the table, leaping to his feet in excitement. "Old poison, take me there right now! I can't wait another moment to see them with my own eyes!"
"Take you? Why should I?" Dugu Bo snorted coldly.
"Argh! You useless old snake!" Yue Guan was starting to panic. "Cheng Xiao, hurry and talk some sense into him — your teacher's dying of impatience here!"
Seeing Yue Guan's anxious expression, Cheng Xiao turned to look at Dugu Bo. But before he could say a word, Dugu Bo was already rising from his seat.
"Kid, of the three conditions I promised you, only one remains."
"Let's go. This old man always keeps his word."
