The man carried a clean, crisp scent that filled Anna's senses, making her feel something she couldn't quite name, a strange familiarity that made her heartbeat quicken.
His chest was broad and warm, and the steady thump, thump, thump of his heartbeat echoed right in her ear.
"Mommy."
A soft, sweet voice suddenly cut through the moment.
Anna froze, as if someone had caught her doing something she shouldn't.
Her eyes widened, and she instantly pushed Harry away. Her face turned scarlet, the blush crawling all the way up to her ears.
She quickly looked down and saw her daughter, Natalie, staring up at her with curious eyes.
Anna coughed awkwardly and knelt down to hug her little girl. "What's wrong, sweetheart?"
"Mommy, my doll's button fell off. Can you sew it back on?" Natalie asked, holding up a pink stuffed doll with both hands, her big eyes full of hope.
Anna smiled softly, taking the doll from her small hands. "Of course. Mommy will fix it for you."
