Eleanor's knees buckled slightly, but Damien caught her arm. But she stayed bent forward, clutching Adrian.
"No! Every time I look at him, I feel this same suffocation." Then her voice dropped to pleading.
"After giving birth to Adrian, I could finally be a normal mother. Not a woman terrified of her child."
She looked at her youngest son with such pure love that it made the contrast with how she looked at Noah even more devastating.
"The pregnancy was easy. I could finally breathe." She let go of Adrian as she gestured rocking a baby in her arms. Tears ran freely from her eyes and down her cheeks.
Levi looked around, at everyone, including the butler. His lips twitched. The servants had gone completely still along the walls. One of them had her hand over her mouth.
