This woman dared to treat her like this. Didn't she fear that Cassius wouldn't let her off the hook?
Elizabeth rushed over, her eyes wide, blocking Nevaeh's path.
She pointed at her own mouth and then gestured toward the direction of the mansion.
Nevaeh's expression darkened as she raised an eyebrow and asked, "What? You want another jab? Want to see what it feels like to not be able to walk?"
Elizabeth, frightened, took a few steps back and scrambled into her car as quickly as she could, eager to leave.
She feared that if she hesitated, Nevaeh might actually follow through on her threat.
Meanwhile, Cassius sat in his study, picking up the divorce agreement.
The neat, bold handwriting seemed pressed down with force, and the ink appeared slightly blurred as if stained by water drops.
This woman had actually signed it voluntarily and even returned the things his grandfather had given her.
How could a woman who loved money so much do this?
Could it be that he had misjudged her?
That thought flickered briefly before being dismissed.
She had caused his grandfather to be hospitalized, yet she wanted to walk away carefree.
A woman like that couldn't be so simple.
What a naive thought!
With a tearing sound, he forcefully ripped the divorce agreement into shreds, letting the pieces flutter in the air before they slowly fell.
Cassius stepped over them without looking back and left the room.
After taking a shower, Cassius lay down on his bed.
For some reason, as he tossed and turned, the image of Nevaeh's stubborn, tear-filled eyes kept flashing through his mind.
Why was he thinking about her?
He tried to suppress the strange feelings rising within him, but the more he pushed them down, the stronger they became, invading his thoughts relentlessly.
Deciding to take action, he got out of bed and headed to the guest room.
At the door, a maid was standing guard.
"Where is she?"
"Madam is inside."
He pushed the door open, determined to ask this woman why she had been so desperate to stay before, only to suddenly want a divorce.
What was she really up to?
However, as he opened the door, he was met with darkness.
Is she asleep?
After turning on the light and adjusting to the brightness, Cassius was shocked to find the room completely empty.
"Get over here!"
Soon, the once-sleepy mansion was ablaze with lights.
All the servants and bodyguards lined up, with Hussein and Frank standing at the forefront, heads bowed, too afraid to meet Cassius's bloodthirsty gaze.
Cassius's deep, angry voice, laced with an imperceptible chill, echoed heavily, "What on earth is going on?"
A living person had just been in the room, and now they had inexplicably vanished.
Hussein pointed to a nearby monitor screen.
"Young Master, I checked the surveillance. Elizabeth was here and even spoke to Madam."
Cassius turned to look at the surveillance footage, which showed Elizabeth gripping Nevaeh's hair, her face twisted in anger.
Frank began to report the information he had gathered. "The young lady returned to the family today and found that her grandmother, who raised her, had passed away several days ago without anyone to bury her. She went to the crematorium and purchased a burial plot for her grandmother."
Cassius felt a twinge of surprise.
No wonder her eyes were red and swollen; she had lost a family member.
Why hadn't she told him?
"Does the Huck family have no one left? Why were they waiting for Nevaeh to bury the old woman?" Cassius asked.
Frank replied, "The young lady was an orphan taken in by the old lady of the Huck family. I asked the neighbors, and they said the Huck family never took care of the old woman. They refused to pay for her cremation and even hid the fact that she had passed away. The young lady only found out about it today."
Cassius's anger slowly dissipated. "How did the old woman die?"
"In a car accident."
"Keep investigating."
"Yes, sir."
"Bring Elizabeth to me." He needed to get to the bottom of what she was planning.
Frank nodded and responded, "What about the young lady?"
"I'll go find her myself!" He was determined to bring her back, even if it meant tying her up.
In the blazing summer sun, the harsh light streamed through the window, almost blinding.
Nevaeh rubbed her swollen eyes and looked around the unfamiliar room, finally remembering that she had left the family yesterday.
After using the hotel's disposable toiletries to freshen up, she shouldered her bag and headed to the front desk.
"Boss, I'd like to check out."
For the past few days, she had been starving, feeling like she was floating.
Last night, she had struggled to fall asleep until the early hours, haunted by dreams of her grandmother, crying and waking up only to cry again, her mind hazy and her head spinning.
She needed to pull herself together and find a place to stay temporarily so she could plan her next steps.
However, just as she pulled out her ID, a wave of dizziness hit her, and the world began to spin before she collapsed to the floor.
The next moment...
"Young Madam!" Sawyer, standing outside the hotel, quickly recognized Nevaeh and excitedly called his brother, Girard. "Bro, I found Young Madam at the Square Hotel!"
Two minutes later, Cassius entered with a cold gaze.
Seeing the woman lying on the floor stirred a sense of irritation within him. How dare she sneak out of the house like this?
But when he caught sight of her red, swollen eyes and remembered her grandmother's passing, an unusual feeling flickered in his heart.
Girard suggested, "Young Master, should I ask the landlady of the motel to help carry Young Madam to the car?"
"No need."
As soon as he spoke, Cassius slowly bent down, effortlessly lifting her into his arms and settling her across his lap.
Though he had been in a coma for years, his training allowed him to easily carry a woman.
Behind him, Girard and Sawyer exchanged glances, as if they had stumbled upon a shocking secret.
The young master actually hugged a woman.
That's a rare occurence!
After sending Nevaeh to the hospital, Frank found Elizabeth and brought her before Cassius.
As soon as she saw Cassius, tears streaming down her face, she rushed toward him, grabbing his arm and pointing to her throat, babbling incoherently in distress.
Cassius calmly pulled his arm away, observing her frantic behavior. He spoke in a low voice, "What happened?"
Elizabeth launched into another round of sobbing.
After a while, realizing she couldn't make a sound, she decided to grab some paper and a pen to write it down.
Cassius took the note and saw in bold letters: "Nevaeh harmed me; she made me mute."
Cassius squinted, incredulous. "Are you saying Nevaeh made you mute?"
Did she really have that kind of power?
Elizabeth nodded vigorously and wrote again, "I swear it's true, or I've suffered a terrible fate."
Though Cassius still had his doubts, Elizabeth had saved his life after all.
"If what you say is true, I will take care of it."
Elizabeth pouted in distress and slowly moved closer to Cassius, hoping to lean against his chest for comfort.
However, just as she was about to get close, his eyes darkened, and he stepped back.
Elizabeth found herself leaning against the wall instead, disappointment flashing in her eyes, making her already sad expression even more heart-wrenching.
Just as she was feeling down, Cassius suddenly asked, "Did you look for her last night?"
Elizabeth froze, clearly caught off guard by his question.
She bit her lip and wrote, "I just wanted to tell her that I like you, Cassius, and ask her to stay away from you."
Cassius's expression turned icy in an instant. "You forced her to leave me and even hit her?"
Elizabeth quickly shook her head.
"You saved me," Cassius said suddenly, leaning in closer.
His cold voice carried a warning, "I'll give you everything you want, money, fame, whatever you choose. But Mrs. Bennett will not be you!"
At his words, Elizabeth stood there in shock, shaking her head repeatedly.
How could this be happening?
But no matter how much she pleaded, Cassius didn't even glance back.
He turned away, pushed by his bodyguards, leaving behind only one statement: "Get Elizabeth a doctor for her throat."
