The photograph in Nevaeh's hands was old and faded to black and white. But even after all this time, the faces staring back were perfectly clear.
"This… how can this be my grandmother?" Nevaeh gasped, her voice a shocked whisper.
While they had been investigating, Cassius had dug up this picture of her grandmother from her time in the countryside. It was a group photo, but Nevaeh's eyes went straight to one girl. The one with bright, sparkling eyes and long braids. That was her grandmother, young and beautiful, her whole face glowing with a gentle light.
Quade was just as stunned. He stared at the photo in Nevaeh's grip, his forehead creasing with pure disbelief. "Desiree? Why is Desiree's picture here?"
The moment the words left his mouth, their eyes snapped to each other, a whirlwind of confusion between them.
"You know my grandmother?"
"Desiree is your grandmother?"
