Chapter 20 - Voting

H Town was a beautiful place. The sun was shining brightly, but the road was lined with shady trees, making it bearable for everyone to walk around the place. Everywhere they turned, they would see colorful flowers blooming. Stray cats and dogs ran around. They would stop to let people pet their heads before running off to another place.

The old buildings around the town made it feel as if they were back in the ancient days. It was a perfect spot to shoot a film.

Vegetables and fruit trees were planted on their farm. Their vegetables were plump and healthy, and their fruits were bright and juicy-looking. It could be seen that the townspeople were working hard to make the town a beautiful place.

The fresh air puts everyone in a good mood.

Even Wu Lian Jie, who claimed to be allergic to nature, seemed to be enjoying his time walking around the town. He put on his sunglasses and strolled around the place as if he were in H Town for a vacation.

Ning Wei looked around the town and thought that coming to a place like this was not a bad idea. After working hard to promote the group's single, she could really use a short break.

Over the past few days, Ning Wei had been in a bad mood.

The workshop where she often sent her bike tried to cheat her out of her money. Initially, she was supposed to retrieve her bike, but the workshop refused to repair it, forcing her to send it to another location.

Then, she tried to find some information about her family but could not find anything useful, even after Ling Shuang had tried her best to help.

The change of air was something that she needed to lift up her mood.

Perhaps her mood would have improved greatly when she returned to the city. She will then work hard to make a lot of money and use it to look for her family.

"Everyone, what do you think about the place?"

Liu Man's voice snapped everyone out of their thoughts.

"This place is lovely," Ding Chuan said. "I'm surprised that there is such a beautiful place like this."

Xie Xi Yan laughed. "Aren't you glad that you came here?"

The others agreed to the host's words.

"That's true," Ding Chuan said. "If we didn't come here, we would never know that this place existed."

The group continued to discuss H Town's beautiful scenery until they reached the end of the road. Then, the host turned around to look at the guests with a smile on his face. "After walking around the place for a while, are you all hungry?" Xie Xi Yan asked.

"Brother Xie." Wu Lian Jie chuckled. "My stomach has been growling for a while."

The boys agreed with Wu Lian Jie, and the girls nodded shyly. It was lunch hour. After walking around the town for a while, their stomach were screaming to be fed.

"Unfortunately." Xie Xi Yan stopped on his track and turned around. The cunning smile on his lips made one feel uneasy. "There is no such thing as a free lunch here," Xie Xi Yan continued. "You have to work hard for your meal."

"That's right." Liu Man nodded. "Everyone, are you not curious to know what you will have to do?" Her laugh reverberated as she saw everyone's expression. "This is your first day. Don't worry. We won't make you do anything difficult."

Suddenly, a line of townspeople came out from somewhere with some fresh ingredients in their hands. They placed the ingredients on the table and flashed the most charming smile to the celebrities before leaving. It was at this time that everyone noticed the long table set at the side and the crew that had been gathering around.

"Look at the fresh produce," Xie Xi Yan said. He pointed at the fresh vegetables with his hand."Everyone, the first task is very easy. All you need to do is turn the fresh produce into a hearty meal."

"Mhm…" Liu Man nodded. "We will divide you guys into three teams. You will prepare the food, and let us be the judge. The team that comes up with the best dishes will win immunity for the next game."

The word immunity made everyone turn to look at each other. They could tell that the show would not make things easy for them in the future.

Ning Wei looked at the boys and wondered if one team would have one extra person in it. Her gaze landed on Wu Lian Jie. She especially hoped that they would not be on the same team. Tossing Wu Lian Jie's hands away from her shoulder all the time can be tiring. Most importantly… Wu Lian Jie is a bad cook.

"Each team will have two people," Liu Man continued. The smile on her lips stretched wider as she watched the guests looking at each other.

Right now, there are seven guests.

If one team has two people, then what will happen to that one extra guest?

Liu Man laughed, seeing the confused look on everyone's face. "Good news. One of you won't have to cook. You can sit around with us and watch as everyone else works hard."

The guests looked at each other again. This time, there was a hint of excitement in their eyes.

"Before that can happen, you have to vote and decide who will be exempted," Liu Man said.

"Sister Liu." He Zhen raised her hand. "Can we vote on our name?"

The hosts laughed.

"Of course, you may vote for your name to be exempted," Xie Xi Man said. "But everyone, before you make a decision, you have to think very carefully. Let me emphasise this matter again. In the end, you will have to eat the food you cook. Would you rather eat something palatable or something you cannot digest?"

Everyone exchanged another look.

They were all hungry. The thought of eating something unpalatable made them think of everything again.

The production team came up to set a ballot station. The contestants were given their time to cast their vote before they went back to their places.

Xie Xi Yan and Liu Man stood at the center with the box of the contestant's vote in their hand. Liu Man took out the paper and read the name written one by one. At the end of it, everyone had their eyes on Wu Lian Jie.

The girls had each voted for their own name to avoid the chore. Unexpectedly, the boys had unanimously voted Wu Lian Jie to be excluded.

"Wu Lian Jie." Xie Xi Yan walked over and patted him on the shoulder. "I'm guessing that your group members voted for you to be excluded. Why is it? Did you say something to the boys to vote for you?"

Wu Lian Jie chuckled. "I don't have to say anything to them. They will still vote for me."

The hosts looked at Wu Lian Jie in puzzlement. "Why is that?"

"Everyone knows that I am a terrible cook," Wu Lian Jie confessed. He did not look ashamed that he was not a good cook. Instead, his expression showed that he was a little proud of it.

"Brother Xie, listen," Ai Lun spoke. " Our Wu Lian Jie could turn such perfectly looking fresh produce into something that would taste like garbage."

"It cannot be that serious, right?" Lin Zhu laughed.

"It's true." Ning Wei nodded. "This man only knows how to boil water. He can't even make a bowl of instant noodles. The last time we tried his cooking, we all ended up in the hospital for food poisoning."

"Even our manager prevented him from going into the kitchen," Ding Chuan added.

The hosts laughed upon hearing the stories about Wu Lian Jie's adventure in the kitchen. The atmosphere turned livelier as everyone was not expecting that there would be such a story.
