Chapter 31 - Echoes of the Past (2)

After eating dessert at the café, they went back to walking around the city square.

"Umm…where are we going now?" Henry asked while surveying the surroundings.

"Didn't think of it…I thought going with the flow would give me an idea." Krishna muttered while stretching his arms.

"Galactic conquest…." Missio blurted while trailing Krishna.

Suddenly, the group turned their head towards Missio. Missio feeling overwhelmed shrank back a little.

"That's a great idea. I heard they opened a new meta connection station right around the corner." Eira said while clasping her hands.

"Then, let's go!" Krishna exclaimed in a soft voice.

Missio, slightly disoriented, quickly regained his composure and trailed the group. After a few minutes, they reached the station, which was right around the corner. They entered the dark and colorful station and reached the counter where a scrawny young man was playing games on his phone.

"Four adult tickets, please." Henry said, stepping forward.

"Wait a minute," The scrawny man replied.

He put his phone down and printed tickets for them.

"50 Pluto's for one adult."

Henry took out his wallet and picked up 200 Pluto's from there. After getting the tickets, Henry put his wallet back and they headed into the station. They entered a dark room with many pods lined up in rows. A man was standing by the pods with a serious face, holding a device. Henry stepped towards him.

"Here, tickets for four adults…" Henry said while giving the tickets.

"Four, correct? Quickly, go into your pods." The man replied while scanning the tickets.

After a few moments, they all entered their own meta pods. Missio followed his friends and found his pod next to Krishna's. He buttoned up his coat and entered the open pod. The clank of the pod echoed in his ears and the machine started up. Suddenly, the air inside the pod became cold enough to sleep. Missio felt dazed as a headset was placed on him.

A booting sound rang in his ears as his mind and the machine seemed to become one. His body went limp and his heartrate increased slightly as he was thrown into the virtual world. The rainbow flew past him and then a bright light engulfed his vision. Finally, he reached the main menu. His body was transparent, brimming with blue. He was in the middle of a vast virtual landscape made with many moving cubes of the same color.

Suddenly, a window appeared in front of him which held some text.

With his transparent hands, he summoned the keyboard and typed his username and password, his fingers gliding across the keyboard.

With that, he pressed "Enter" and loaded up the game. Another light blinded him as a booting sound rang in his ears. After a few minutes, he was welcomed by a blue panel.

[Welcome! 'The Midnight Sun' to Galactic Conquest.]

Then, he fell into a spaceship. He sat in the high seat as the commander above the rest of the fleet. Beneath him, NPCs were moving randomly, and some were at seats which controlled the ship. With a serious face, he looked out towards the Milky Way galaxy, The galaxy was stunning, filled with many bright orbs and rocks and behind was an expansive landscape filled with color.

Nodding, he opened his inventory and looked at his character. His character was the same height as him, wearing headphones, a white tricorn with golden accents and a black feather, a red headband, a long white and gold buttoned long coat, heavy boots, baggy white pants, white waistcoat with golden accents. He also had an eye patch which covered his scarlet eyes.

'Ah…I forgot. I'm a pirate in this game. Haven't played in this in a while…I mean a few months at least until it got updated…Lets check out my stats.'

His thoughts lead him to his stats. He scanned his stats with great interest.

'Damn…was I that good? 201126…How much is that? And max stats! And what are these titles.'

His eyes widened in surprise as he looked at his stats. His mind was spiraling into disorder. He had left this game months ago but didn't realize he was so good to sustain his rank even after a long time. He slumped into his chair after closing the window.

'How much gold do I have…and what are my abilities?'

He swiped his hand and opened his bank and instantly his eyes widened his shock.

[ 29650000 Gold…30000000 Gold…]

His gold kept increasing before his very eyes. He shook it off and opened his ability window. His abilities were categorized into two: Passive and Active.

'Nice…Alright, let's get to playing the actual game. I believe my weapon is a sword.'

He closed the panel and opened the main menu, going to Free Play mode. Another light blinded him, and he appeared in a server. He opened his eyes to pure warfare. Players were firing lasers at each other, and he could also see supernovae going off every minute. Explosion covered the galaxy as his scarlet eyes glazed over the battlefield. Suddenly, when he entered the server, everyone stopped fighting. In the chat, a single message appeared which sent chills down everyone's spine.

[King of the eastern cosmos, The Midnight Sun has joined the game, Beware!]

His gigantic ship floated over everyone else's, making them look like ants. Everyone held their breaths as Missio opened another window. Battleships and fleets started to back off as he scrolled down his friends list. Players who were fighting in space rushed back to their ships as he found his friends. He joined their server, and his ship seemed to dissolve into blue light. Everyone's eyes were fixed onto his ship as it completely disappeared. After he left the server, everyone held their breaths for a moment before chaos took over the server once again.

He appeared in a server with his friends. He swiped his hands and the map opened. While looking at the map, he saw a certain someone send a message in the chat. His lips couldn't help but curl up as he saw the username of his best friend.

[Martian King: Henry, Eira. RETREAT!!!]
