Chapter 30 - Echoes of the Past (1)

Krishna stood above a body covered in boiling flesh, blooming out from another man's corpse. The man was still alive; his bloodshot eyes twitched with immense pain. He reached his hand out but then…the man exploded. His flesh and blood covered Krishna's horrified eyes. Silence filled the air as Krishna looked at his blood-covered hands. His mouth contorted and then…he screamed in agony as if his very soul was being ripped from him.

Suddenly, he awoke and screamed. He violently rolled out of bed while still screaming and crashed into his office chair. He propped himself up on elbow, gasping.

'Damn it…Why this nightmare again...Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!'

He furiously hit the ground but ended up hurting himself instead. Ignoring the pain, he stood up and jumped into bed again. A sense of guilt and disappointment washed over him. It felt like he went back to that day.

'I'll ask him to stop making me have these nightmares…'

He stayed on the bed for a couple minutes before standing up with a groan. After a minute, he sighed and sat on his office chair. He checked the time, and it was 6 am.

'Eh...Only six? I think we must meet up at 9…and I forgot to do my routine!'

Krishna grimaced and started exercising. He wore red t-shirt and black shorts. He immediately went down and started doing – pushups, v-ups, handstand hold, pullups, lunges, calf raises and diamond pushups. After finishing his exercise, he took another break.

After a couple of minutes, he stripped down to his underwear and showered in the bathroom. After showering, he put on his green buttoned shirt and black pants. He also put on his mechanical-watch and checked the time. The time was 8 am. He lingered on it for a moment before sitting on his bed. He slipped on a pair of white socks and black sneakers. He ruffled his hair a bit to get off excess water and combed it. Afterwards, he left his small apartment and headed downstairs. He stepped outside and felt the cool breeze of the morning.

After enjoying it for a moment, he started pacing towards a certain spot in the city. He made it to the city square and stood near a pole on one of the corners. The street was bustling with tourists and civilians doing their everyday tasks. After a few minutes, someone tapped on his shoulder. He turned around and saw it was Henry and Eira. Henry was wearing a cream T-shirt with green cargo pants while Eira was wearing a black top, baggy white pants and a short black jacket.

"Hey, idiot. How are you doing?" Henry asked.

"Better than you, you rascal." Krishna mocked.

They both dapped each other up and Krishna fist bumped Eira.

"So…Let's get going!" Eira exclaimed.

They immediately started walking. While walking Krishna suddenly asked.

"Hey, what's the date?"

"March 20th" Henry replied.

"It's been that long?!...Time flies, I guess." Krishna exclaimed

"Especially when it's your day-off." Henry said.

"Hey! Are you two going to hurry up?" Eira shouted.

Henry and Krishna suddenly snapped their heads forward and realized they were a bit far away from Eira. They both jogged to Eira's side. They continued to walk until they could see a huge mansion made of quartz and gold.

"Last one to the gate is a rotten tomato!" Krishna said as he rushed towards the door.

"Oh! No, you don't!" Henry shouted as he chased Krishna.

"These children…" Eira let out an annoyed sigh.

Moments later, Henry touched the gate first and Krishna and Eira were right behind. They gasped for air while Henry stood over them, his fingers grazing the gate.

"Damn…You're quick…" Krishna said with a smile.

"I'm an assassin. What else did you think was going to happen?" Henry retorted.

"Can you two…not…do this…when I'm around...Please." Eira said while catching her breath.

Krishna and Henry chuckled at Eira's comment when the gates started to unlock. After catching their breath, the trio went inside Augustus manor. The place was beautiful and overflowing with natural beauty. Krishna looked at it all with a somber smile. They reached the massive front door and the guards opened it. They entered the lavishly decorated place with high-ceilings and saw a lone man playing video games on his phone while lying on the couch. He had dark hair, scarlet eyes, and a pair of headphones on his head which was attached to a music box on his waist. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and dark blue shorts.

"Oi! Missio!" Henry called out.

Missio flinched and dropped his phone on his face. His phone dropped to floor and made a slight cracking sound. Missio grabbed his nose and grimaced as the group approached. Krishna punched Henry in the back and said in a hoarse tone.

"I thought I told you not to shout at him."

"Yeah…Sorry, I forget." Henry apologized while he was on the ground.

"How the hell do you forget something so important?!" Krishna exclaimed while Eira went to Missio's side.

"Hey, are you okay?" Eira asked.

Missio gave a thumbs up and clutched his nose tighter. After a few moments, he let go and sat straight. He bent down and picked up his phone. The screen was completely cracked.

"Oh! Missio, we're so sorry." Eira whispered while looking at the device.

"No…need. This is my…fourth? Fifth phone…yeah, fifth."

He said while placing the cover of the phone back on. Krishna and Henry were still bickering when Lilla approached and asked in a solemn tone.

"Are you here to pick up the lord?"

"Yes! Miss Lilla." Henry replied.

Krishna also turned his head and looked at the maid and gave the same answer. Lilla smiled and went to Missio.

"My lord. How are you feeling?" Lilla asked with a smile.

Missio nodded and Lilla backed off. Turning to face Krishna's group, she said solemnly.

"Please take care of him…"

"We will." Eira said in a low voice.

After receiving Lilla's permission, they waited for Missio to get dressed. After a few minutes, Missio came down the stairs. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black pants and trench coat.

"Damn, Missio. You're looking great." Krishna commented without agitating Missio.

Missio blushed and nodded while approaching the group. Then, they all left for a day of fun.

After leaving the mansion, they walked through city for some time before arriving at a small café. They sat down at a table outside. The sun was shining; wind was cool and humidity perfect. After sitting down, Missio's eyes darted around the café as if scanning the surroundings for any danger. He kept this up for a while. Krishna called the waiter over and asked for the menu. A few moments later, he received the café's menu. After looking at it for a while, he handed it over to Henry.

"Here." Krishna said while passing the menu.

They passed the menu around until it eventually got to Missio. Missio tapped his headphones, switching them to transparency mode. He read the menu for a few minutes before saying in a low voice.

"Dessert…"

"Dessert? This early? Okay, buddy. Coming right up." Krishna said.

Suddenly, Missio stood up and snapped his body back. He was in a rigid position. For a heartbeat, the world blurred white and red in his vision. Henry reacted and stood up with Missio. He tilted his head and then saw a flock of birds flying off.

"…I thought it was an attack. It's just a flock of birds. It's okay, Missio. You can sit down."

Henry sighed as he sat Missio down. The cold and quiet breeze washed over the group. After the waiter took their order, they sat in silence for a few moments. All the things that had happened in the past week were beyond their imagination but now…they could finally take a break.
