Chapter 24 - Intermediate Magic

Seeing that the king didn't speak and the Gold Cloaks' cheers hadn't stopped, Jame walked down from the high platform and said to Vitt,

"Sir Vitt, I won't compete with you in martial arts after just fighting two against one. I've heard you know magic." Jame walked ten paces away from Vitt and drew his longsword. "I want to test your magic."

Vitt looked at Jame. This man has a knight's spirit and values honor. His only mistake was falling in love with his own sister, and one wrong step led to many more.

"If I use magic, you won't be able to block a single move."

Jame had only read descriptions of magic in books and had never seen real magic. He cautiously crouched, holding his sword with both hands, adopting a stance that could both attack and defend. "How would I know if I don't try?"

"As you wish."

Vitt put his left hand, which had been holding the book, behind his back and raised his right hand. Magic surged forth, turning into blue lightning that swirled around his arm and palm.

The watching Gold Cloaks immediately shouted.

"Back, back," they shouted, clearing a large space.

It was the first time they'd seen magic. Seeing the blue lightning in Vitt's hand, they knew to get away. Robert on the platform straightened up. He'd seen Vitt's magic as a child, and he had deepened his understanding of magic over the years through Vitt's books. He knew there were healing, auxiliary, and combat magic, but the descriptions of magic in the books from other places were limited to auxiliary aspects or magical items. He was very much looking forward to how far he had grown in these years. Cersei and Joffrey also leaned forward to get a clear look. The Gold Cloaks also stepped forward a few steps, ready to protect the king with their bodies if anything unexpected happened.

Jame saw that Vitt was ten steps away and had already released blue lightning towards him. He immediately understood that this magic was definitely a ranged attack. Without hesitation, he charged forward.

Vitt, however, directed the lightning from his right hand onto himself. His entire body was immediately covered in tiny flashes of lightning, which crackled and buzzed through the air.

Jame, seeing that his opponent was covered in lightning, paused, unsure how to proceed.

But thinking that it was a duel and nothing serious would happen, he gritted his teeth and thrust his sword forward. Vitt just stared at Jame through the electricity, unmoving.

When the tip of the sword was still half a body length away from Vitt, a current of electricity automatically leapt onto Jame, sending him flying sideways and landing five or six meters away. Lying on the ground, Jame couldn't even shout, his body convulsing. His sword also fell to the side. He could only lie on the ground twitching, with an occasional spark of electricity flashing from his armor.

The surroundings fell silent, not a word was spoken.

Vitt raised his right hand towards Jame again. This time, a pale halo surrounded his hand, then surged out and enveloped Jame. Vitt slowly raised his right hand, the light connecting to Jame, lifting his body into the air.

Vitt used Telekinesis to control all of Jame's armor, hoisting him upright in mid-air to stop his continued, embarrassing, grounding convulsions.

"Don't hurt Jame!" Cersei shouted as Vitt lifted Jame into the air.

"Don't worry, Jame is fine. I've kept the magic to a minimum." As he spoke, Jame stopped convulsing. Vitt released the spell, and Jame staggered as he landed, then regained his balance.

"I'm fine."

"This is already the minimum of my power. If I used my full power..." Vitt said, using magic to suspend a book behind him. He clasped his hands together, and all his magical power flowed into them, still accompanied by blue lightning.

He pushed his hands forward towards a tower of the Red Keep dozens of meters away. Several lightning bolts, as thick as arms, intertwined and crossed the training ground before striking the tower with a tremendous crash. The lightning didn't flash and disappear like a normal thunderclap; instead, it continuously poured from his hands.

This time, the sound was different. The buzzing of the lightning through the air was immense, making it impossible to hear the people standing nearby. The great noise caused everyone's eardrums to ache. The entire training ground was illuminated in blue by the lightning, which was blindingly bright.

Lightning followed Vitt's hands, leaving a white streak on the tower. The Gold Cloaks all crouched on the ground as the lightning passed overhead.

The lightning stopped, and everyone's vision returned to normal, though their ears were still ringing. The outer wall of the distant tower now bore a white, Z-shaped mark.

Just with Intermediate Magic, it's like this. The visual and auditory effects are much greater than in the game. What will the master-level destruction magic I haven't even learned yet be like? But showing off isn't easy. It will take at least a month to replenish my magic power. But I'll just play it through to the end. Maybe it'll keep some of those small-minded people from bothering me with their schemes. Otherwise, I'll send them to meet the Seven Gods.

Everyone saw Vitt's hands ignite with flames again, forming a fireball the size of a bucket in front of him. The surrounding temperature rose instantly, but those who were a distance away didn't feel the heat. With his hands aimed at the tower, there was a boom, and the fireball exploded from his hands, flying towards the tower's outer wall and exploding with a boom, the sound echoing through half of King's Landing. Flames scattered, enveloping the entire tower.

He then made a gesture with his hands again, and a ball of ice formed in front of him. The intense heat from before instantly dissipated, replaced by the icy cold of winter, and dense white smoke billowed out from Vitt's side. The ice ball made no sound as it flew to the tower and exploded. The fire on the tower was extinguished instantly, and the entire top of the tower was frozen over with white ice crystals.

More Gold Cloaks poured into the training ground, drawn by the huge sounds and lights just now, assuming something had happened. Robert beckoned to a few Kingsguard to maintain order. The training ground soon quieted down, and everyone watched the tower with the white mark, the scorch marks, and the ice, discussing what had happened.

The book slowly floated back into Vitt's hands. He stood up straight, once again looking like a harmless scholar. In truth, this was the first time he'd exhausted all his magic power, and his legs were barely able to stand. Taking advantage of the chaos as the crowd rushed in, he greeted Robert and returned to his bedroom.

After Vitt left, the people present recovered from the shock. Some of the dutiful ones immediately called for guards to go check the tower for damage, but most just stood there, pointing at the tower and boasting about how powerful the magic they had just seen was.

Fire, ice, and lightning. These were things people saw every day, but to see them unleashed from a person's body... it was too much for many to accept. They'd been taught since childhood that magic was just a myth. Now, seeing it for real, they were too shocked to speak.

Cersei ran to her brother's side, checking Jame for injuries. The Gold Cloaks stood close to Robert. Robert had seen Vitt use magic as a child, but this was the first time he'd witnessed Vitt unleashing his full power. He was lost in thought, saying nothing.

Back in his bedroom, Vitt sat at his desk, summarizing the power and use of his magic.

In the game, fire magic couldn't even set a tree ablaze, and rarely reacted with flammable objects. He couldn't feel the cold from ice magic, or the condensation of air. Lightning had a weak sound and low brightness. These were all limitations of the game's development costs, processing capabilities, and artistic compromises. The real world, however, followed the laws of nature and had many uncertainties. As a result, all the magic from the game seemed much more powerful in reality.

Real-world combat also had its discounts. For example, in the game, an exploding fireball would damage all enemies within its blast radius. In reality, a fireball hitting the front line of enemies would explode, but the ones behind would be shielded. Add armor to the equation, and the most they'd likely suffer was a burn to the face, still able to fight.

Of course, Vitt wouldn't write anything about the game in his notes. He'd only include notes on how to use each magic, which he would later give to Renly.
