The sound of a lighter flickering on and off continuously echoed in the dead silent atmosphere. The sound kept his mind at ease.It was his habit. "Has it been done?" His asked in his smooth deep voice.Still flicking the lighter.
"Yes,he did as you asked." Threaten is the right word but he dared not say it to the young master. "Good." Vernon said blandly as he lit up a cigar.Luke left the files he brought on the table and left after bowing his head. The young master loved his personal space more than anything.
A stack of photos scattered on the far end of the couch. He had been keeping tabs on someone lately and quite illegally. He picked out the most recent photo of her in the supervising area of an operation room.Messy hair and looking distraught.
First step? done.He was soon gonna barge into her life and she would not like it.
Eight whole hours had passed.Bailey was still not out.Raina was getting anxious every more minute that passed.
Thoughts began flowing in,What if Bailey doesn't make it? She would then be alone. What would become of her? No! Bailey will not die.She can't die! She shouldn't be thinking negative.Raina managed to block out those negative thoughts.
"Are you sure it is Dr Snow?" "Why would I joke about someone as legendary as Dr Snow if he wasn't in our hospital?"
"I want to believe you Mel, it's just that it's highly unlikely. Why would an important figure like him take on a surgery that's below his station?" Another voice said. Two nurses were whispering amongst themselves.Raina could not help but overhear their conversation as it was within her earshot. They were bad at whispering.
"Maybe someone made a special request?"
"I thought so too,but there is no way the little girl's guardian could've afford it."
"Hmmm.....you're right... perhaps someone has her back?"
"Obviously! the bills were cleared with a huge sum of money way past the initial amount.Of course she has someone."
"I desperately want to clinch a man of high society and better secure my future"
"So do I Mel.So do I."
Raina listened in on their conversation till the end.And felt sort of like the person those nurses were speaking of. Reasons? She had heard from Dr Carrie that a famous specialized neurosurgeon would be the one to take on Bailey's surgery. Then, she thought the woman had said it to lessen her worries.
Right then, the sliding doors to the OR opened. The doctor who had taken on Bailey's surgery came out with his team.Raina forgot everything else and ran to him immediately. "How is she Doctor? The surgery went well right?" The doctor wore a blank expression.Unabling her to read his face.
"The surgery was a success!" That single news made all of Raina's fear and worry disappear. "Oh thank you doctor! Thank you so much!"
"We removed the tumors and she's out of danger but we are still not sure if or when she can regain normal motor movements." The doctor explained.
"But she is not in danger anymore?" Raina probed to be sure.It doesn't matter if she would need to use a clutch or a wheelchair. What matters is that she wouldn't die and that they would both be together again like a family.
"Rest assured, she isn't.You don't need to worry anymore Ms.Lorre." the doctor gave out a smile adding, "All that is left now is for her to recover."
"Thank you sir.Thank you so much!" No matter how many times she says that,it still won't be enough to show how thankful she is to the doctor.....to the philanthropist and to the heavens. She would never forget this stroke of good fortune.
"I am not the one whom you should be thanking." doctor Snow almost said, but he simply nodded to Raina's sincere, unending show of gratitude.
