Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6 ( Footsteps In The Shadow)

They saw someone familiar. When the shadow of a person became clearly visible, they saw two people. The people were John and Lisa.

Luna and Louis saw them and sighed in relief at the familiar faces.

"Thank God you guys are okay," Luna said.

"Well, we two are also glad that you are okay and not hurt," Lisa said.

"Hey, you two are together… but Max is not with you?" Louis asked, confused.

"Yes, we both ended up alone but we met each other along the way. We didn't see Max anywhere," John said.

"You two didn't see Max either?" Lisa quickly added.

"No, we also ended up alone, but we found each other after a short while. We didn't find Max on the way," Luna said nervously.

"We have to find Max as soon as possible," Louis said in a serious voice.

"Poor Max… he will be all alone in a dark forest. I'm so worried about him," Lisa said sadly.

"That's why we have to find him quickly, before he gets into danger or encounters a wild animal," John said.

"Yes, come on, we have to look for him," Luna said.

The group nodded to each other and walked together, hoping to find their last remaining friend.

On the other side of the forest, Max and Luna walked quietly besides each other.

Max stared at Luna for a couple of seconds. He didn't like the way Luna had been asking such ridiculous questions earlier, and he wanted to know why she had asked them.

But suddenly, he heard a voice. The voice sounded strangely familiar—it was Louis's voice. The voice called his name:

"Max, where are you?"

Max suddenly stopped when he heard the voice and asked Luna,

"Hey, Luna… did you hear Louis calling me?"

"Strange. I didn't hear anything," Luna said.

"But I heard it clearly—someone was calling my name. It sounded familiar, and it was Louis's voice," Max replied.

"I think you're just hearing things because of fear. I didn't hear anyone's voice," Luna said.

"I'm telling you, I seriously heard Louis's voice. I'm not just imagining things," Max insisted.

"Okay, fine. Let's follow the path where you heard the voice. Maybe you're right, and we can actually find Louis," Luna said in an assuring tone.

The two of them followed the voice, walking deeper into the jungle.

On the other side, Luka and Anna continued to follow a light. They walked for almost 20 minutes toward it and finally reached the source. They saw a candle burning in the middle of the jungle.

The candle was sitting on the ground, burning brightly. The scared Anna asked,

"Why is there a candle in the jungle, and who lit it?"

"What the hell is going on here? First, our van stopped. Then our friends went searching for help and didn't return. Then we went looking for them and saw a light, and now we see a candle burning here in the middle of the ground with nobody nearby. Just what is going on here?" Luka said quickly, his tone grumpy.

"I don't know what's going on… but I'm scared," Anna replied, almost in tears.

"Can you stop whining for two seconds?" Luka growled at her.

"Why are you angry at me? I'm just scared—I wanna go home!" Anna growled back.

Luka wanted to say something, but he stopped when he heard footsteps. He turned to Anna and whispered,

"I think someone is coming. Be quiet."

The scared Anna hid behind Luka and whispered,

"Who's coming? Is it our friends, or some wild animal, or a stranger?"

"How the hell would I know? I just hear footsteps," Luka grumbled.

Suddenly, the sound grew closer, and the figure of someone appeared.

On the other side, the four friends were walking quietly in the forest. Lisa was the first to break the silence.

"Did you guys hear voices?" she asked.

"What voices?" Louis replied.

"Well, when we were walking in the jungle about 20 minutes ago, we suddenly heard some voices," John said.

"We didn't hear any voices," Luna replied.

"What were those voices saying?" Louis asked curiously.

"Well… in my case, I heard someone calling my name, saying 'Lisaaaa,'" Lisa replied in a worried tone.

"And I heard someone crying for help, saying 'Help me,'" John quickly added.

"Strange… we didn't hear any voices," Luna said.

Louis asked again, "Then what did you guys do when you heard the voices?"

"Well, at first I thought I misheard. But after John heard it too, he suggested we should go look for the source. I didn't agree, but he insisted, so I had to go along. We decided to look for the voices," Lisa explained.

"Then what happened?" Luna asked, her curiosity growing.

"Then we followed the voices… but we only found you guys," John added.

"I think you two were just hearing things because of fear," Luna said.

"I think you might be right," Lisa admitted.

"Well, we should stop talking and focus on finding Max," Louis said firmly.

"Yes, you're right," John agreed.

The atmosphere became quiet again as they all walked deeper into the jungle, hoping to find their friend.

Meanwhile, Max and Luna were still walking, following the direction of the voice Max claimed to have heard. They had been walking for almost 10 minutes, but there was no sign of anyone.

"How much longer do we have to keep looking for those damn voices?" Luna grumbled.

"I swear, I heard Louis's voice," Max snapped.

"Maybe you're just scared—that's why you think you heard Louis's voice. But in reality, it's just your imagination," Luna replied.

Max calmed down and said,

"I think you're right. I'm just scared and imagining voices."

"So, what do we do now?" Luna asked, but before she could finish, they both heard footsteps. Someone was coming toward them.

"There's someone coming!" Max said loudly in a scared tone.

"Idiot, I know someone's coming," Luna snapped at him.

"I think it's our friends," Max said hopefully.

Before Luna could respond, the shadow drew closer… and the figure of someone appeared before them.
