The dim lights. The scent of whiskey that didn't sit right. The moment I realized she wasn't just another stranger in my bed.
The truth had struck me the instant my hands touched her the hesitation, the trembling. She hadn't known what she was doing.
A virgin.
That was why I had searched. Why I had dug through shadows for five long years. You don't forget something like that. Not when you know she didn't choose you. Not when you know someone put her in that bed.
But until now, I had never asked her who.
Tonight, the silence between us finally broke.
I should have walked out. I should have left it there. But the words rose before I could stop them.
"Rina."
Do you know," I asked quietly, "who set you up that night?"
I asked her.
I asked her what really happened that night.
