The first light of morning spilled softly through the curtains, catching on the gold threads of the drapes. For a moment, I didn't remember where I was. The room was too wide, too elegant, too warm.
And then it hit me again Lucian's room.
I turned on the bed, the faint scent of him still clinging to the air clean, sharp, faintly woodsy. Something that had begun to feel almost like… safety.
The space beside me was empty. He was gone already. Typical Lucian. Always up before the sun had a chance to breathe.
But the quiet he left behind wasn't cold anymore.
It was strange, almost alive like he'd left a piece of himself in the stillness.
I sat up slowly, stretching, my mind replaying last night's conversation the way he'd looked at me when he spoke about his parents, how his voice softened when he said the twins' names.
