CHAPTER 75 – THE SPACE BETWEEN US

The mansion had fallen into a deep kind of quiet the kind that came only after laughter and chaos had burned themselves out.

The girls were finally asleep.

Their room, just down the hall, was dim now; the faint hum of their small snores mixed with the lullaby still playing on repeat from their nightstand. I had tucked them in, kissed both their foreheads, and watched for a moment their identical faces softened in dreams, one hand flung over the other as if even in sleep, they couldn't bear to be apart.

My heart felt full and heavy all at once.

Downstairs, the lights were low, throwing gold shadows across the marble floor. The scent of dinner still lingered faintly roasted garlic, citrus wine, and something sweet Silas had somehow sneaked into dessert. It had been… good. Almost too good. A family dinner, laughter, a story about school that made Lucian choke on his drink, and a quiet peace that felt like it belonged to another world.
