Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Arcane Drain

Arcane Absorption is a very basic spell, taught in the first year at Nathalas Academy.

However, mages use it to quickly absorb Arcane Energy from the air to restore mana.

To put it simply, this is a mana regeneration skill.

When Gale realized that Arcane Energy could enhance physical fitness, he immediately thought of a new purpose for it: accumulating energy for physical training.

Although the method of use hasn't changed, the users have transformed from mages to rangers and warriors. Through natural training, the Kaldorei's physical fitness grows slowly, taking decades or even centuries to mature. Moreover, the upper limit is not high, not even comparable to elite Troll warriors.

This is a disadvantage in terms of talent, and also a natural selection.

Of course, it is also related to the overall world setting of world of warcraft. The evolution of intelligence is accompanied by physical degradation.

Humans compared to Vrykul, Dwarves compared to Earth Spirit, Gnomes compared to mechanical gnome, and so on. The most representative example is the Orcs, in terms of physical fitness, Grond degenerated into Gronn, Gronn degenerated into Ogron, Ogron degenerated into Cyclops, Cyclops degenerated into Ogre, and Ogre degenerated into Orc.

A history of degradation like Russian nesting dolls, it can be described as a marvel among marvels.

However, with the degradation of physical fitness, intelligence gradually evolved. Gronn are smarter than Grond, Ogron are smarter than Gronn, Cyclops are smarter than Ogron, Ogres are smarter than Cyclops, and Orcs are smarter than Ogres.

The Kaldorei also did not escape this setting; while the Well of Eternity made the Kaldorei intelligent, it also caused their bodies to degrade. Although there were instances of atavism, with tall Kaldorei being born, their intelligence was clearly inferior to that of shorter Kaldorei.

This was true for Carlos, and equally true for Draksa, with almost no exceptions.

For thousands of years, the Kaldorei had grown accustomed to this, never even wondering why it was so. Few even sought to solve this problem, and those who did tried briefly before giving up.

Only Gale, with his modern mindset, kept this matter in mind. He discovered that Arcane could both enhance spellcasting ability and strengthen physique, so he had been constantly experimenting.

When he first arrived in Sin'dorei, he undertook extensive training, and with the help of Arcane Energy, he quickly reached his physical limits.

Gale did not give up training but continued to strengthen his body using Arcane Energy. However, unable to perceive changes at the cellular or even genetic level, Gale could only let the Arcane Energy automatically transform his body.

When forging azshara's crown, the physical bottleneck was broken, and his physical fitness grew again during training. Although the growth was slow, Gale could clearly feel it.

After all, it was growth beyond his limits, so any pace was acceptable.

In Heda'shal, the reason Gale dared to confront Hydra Nash directly. Besides having Aggramar's Shield as a safeguard, his superhuman physical fitness also gave him great confidence. Coupled with spells as a backup, even if he couldn't win, he wouldn't die at Nash's hands.

Navoli had already learned Arcane Absorption. When Gale saw him, Navoli was systematically training his body.

The other four were observing from the side, curious about the effectiveness of the training method Gale had provided. If it worked, they wanted to learn it too.

"Mage Gale!"

Seeing Gale arrive, the four quickly greeted him, and Navoli was also startled.

Gale waved his hand, signaling them not to be nervous. He saw Navoli training and knew he had already learned Arcane Absorption.

"How is it? Do you feel the effect?"

Navoli scratched his head, "I just finished absorbing Arcane, so I can't see the effect yet."

Gale smiled and said, "You continue, it will be effective soon."

"Okay!"

Navoli nodded; he didn't have as much confidence as Gale. But since Gale said so, he would give it a try.

Just after completing a set of exercises, Navoli felt a surge of energy in his body. He felt as if the strength in his legs had increased significantly, and the speed of his arm swings seemed to have quickened.

"This--?"

Gale smiled and said, "I told you, it will be effective soon."

"But--this is too fast!"

It's no wonder Navoli was surprised; the effect appeared too quickly. If his body hadn't given him feedback, he wouldn't have believed it was real.

The other four were dumbfounded. They just saw Navoli do a set of warm-up exercises, and then Navoli said it was working. If they didn't know Navoli's character, they would definitely think he was lying to them.

"You'll understand once you've mastered Arcane Absorption!"

Gale did not offer much explanation; Arcane Absorption combined with training was a blessing for rangers and warriors.

In fact, Kaldorei rangers and warriors had always used this method to grow stronger. It's just that they hadn't deeply researched it, nor had they actively used it. While passive skills are good, how can their autonomy compare to active skills? The former raises the lower limit, the latter raises the upper limit.

Gale took out two navoli's swift blades, "From now on, you'll use these!"

Navoli's eyes lit up. These two "blue blades" were so cool, even glowing. He took them and swung them a few times; the weight was just right, and they were very easy to wield, greatly enhancing his strength.

"They are called navoli's swift blades; I hope you live up to their name."

navoli's swift blades?

The other four were extremely envious. An epic weapon named after an individual was an honor for everyone. Once time had passed and the "blue blades" were still circulating, people would surely remember Navoli's name.

Navoli was ecstatic, "Mage Gale, I will definitely train hard to make myself worthy of them."

Gale nodded in satisfaction and looked at the other four, "Next, I will test each of you one by one, then teach you Arcane Absorption, and forge weapons suitable for you."

The four were filled with emotion and immediately pledged their loyalty: "Mage Gale, we will do our utmost to ensure the safety of the Mage Tower."

"I believe in you!"

Gale had no intention of relying on them to protect the Mage Tower; too few people in Sin'dorei could threaten the Mage Tower's safety. Each of them was an existence Gale couldn't currently contend with, sending them to fight would be sacrificing them.

Their role would be on future battlefields. Like Carlos, Gale planned to train them into heroes to fight against enemies. He would start by practicing with the Trolls, preparing for the arrival of the Burning Legion.

Although he knew the Burning Legion was destined to fail, Gale did not want to wait passively. If possible, he wanted to preserve the Well of Eternity. With the Well of Eternity, in ten thousand years, Gale could assemble an army that surpassed the Burning Legion.

Even without the Burning Legion's resurrection ability, defending Azeroth should not be a problem.
