Carlos led the Alpha Squad to the mountain pass in the eastern forest. The Mages had already observed the Troll's defensive position using the Arcane Eye.
Due to severe lack of productivity, the Trolls couldn't build a fortress at the mountain pass in a short time, so they constructed a stockade out of wood, which perfectly blocked the mountain path. Inside the stockade were some defensive towers, which could enhance the Trolls' defensive capabilities.
"When you attack, you must pay attention to the arrows shot from the defensive towers. Although your shields are large, they still cannot protect your whole body," the Mages kindly reminded them.
Carlos didn't seem to care much and said confidently, "Don't worry! We will defeat the Trolls and break through the stockade."
The Mage was speechless. He knew that the equipment crafted by Gale had given Carlos confidence. He hadn't witnessed the power of Ice Imprint Grip and armor of eternal winter, so he couldn't comment. But Carlos's blind trust in them was not a good thing.
Last time in Heda'shal, Yue Nu was also full of confidence, but the attack on Claw's Rest failed, and the Alpha Squad suffered heavy losses, almost having its designation revoked.
The Alpha Squad assembled at the mountain pass. Carlos strode to the front of the formation, raising the Ice Imprint Grip. "The Legion Commander has given us a great victory, and we must seize it. Everyone, brace yourselves, and start accumulating Ice Armor now."
The soldiers all raised their Ice Imprint Grip in front of them, activating the Ice Armor runes. Cold air emanated from the Ice Imprint Grip and armor of eternal winter, quickly swirling around the surface of the shields and the soldiers' bodies, gradually solidifying into ice. The ice miraculously formed a hollow structure, which could protect the soldiers without hindering their movement, and it was also breathable.
"This!!?" The Mage was stunned when he saw this scene.
No wonder Carlos hadn't taken the Troll defensive tower's arrows to heart; the Alpha Squad's soldiers were completely enveloped in Ice Armor, leaving no gaps for arrows.
"Attack!"
Carlos swung the Sanction Blade and led the way into the mountain pass. The inside of the pass was not flat; it also required an uphill climb. The reason it was a pass was simply that it was easier to traverse compared to the towering peaks on both sides.
Fortunately, the slope was not steep, and the path was not very long. After a few minutes, Carlos reached the base of the stockade.
The Trolls inside the stockade had long detected the Alpha Squad's attack, and the Trolls on the defensive towers wanted to attack. However, seeing the Alpha Squad's soldiers completely covered in Ice Armor, they abandoned the idea of shooting arrows and chose another method of attack.
As the Alpha Squad reached the base of the stockade, a large number of Trolls immediately emerged from behind the wooden wall. The Trolls, holding throwing spears and axes, hurled them at the Alpha Squad.
The soldiers immediately moved their Ice Imprint Grip upwards, blocking their heads. The throwing spears and axes struck the shields, sending ice shards flying, but the spears and axes were also bounced away; they couldn't even break through the Ice Armor.
Carlos peeked out from behind his shield, smiled disdainfully, and walked straight towards the stockade gate.
He raised his shield above his head, and some other soldiers came to his vicinity, also raising their Ice Imprint Grip, using their shields to construct a corridor.
At the back of the formation, four or five strong soldiers, carrying a battering ram made from a large tree, entered the corridor under the cover of the soldiers.
The Trolls obviously knew what the soldiers were doing, and they reacted immediately, throwing stones at the shields.
"Clang!"
Ice flew, and the Ice Imprint Grip rotated to one side but was immediately restored to its original position by the soldiers.
The height of the stockade wall was insufficient, and the weight of the stones was not enough to destroy the corridor built by the shields.
The soldiers wouldn't wait for the Trolls to come up with a solution; they quickly charged towards the stockade gate with the battering ram.
"Bang!"
The stockade gate vibrated!
The soldiers quickly retreated and charged at the stockade gate again.
"Crack!"
Several wooden planks of the stockade gate were broken.
The soldiers persevered, and this time they directly broke one side of the stockade gate, opening a passage into the stockade.
Carlos immediately rushed into the stockade, "Kill all these Trolls!"
The Trolls inside the stockade were all die-hards and clearly wouldn't surrender. There were plenty of Trolls, so naturally, captives would be chosen from those who were easier to manage.
The Trolls rushed towards the stockade gate, wanting to block the soldiers at the entrance. But before they could approach the gate, an ice ring fixed them to the ground.
Carlos unleashed Bursting Ice Shard towards the densest group of Trolls, directly blasting holes through four or five Trolls.
The Trolls were startled by the sudden attack, and while they hesitated, seven or eight soldiers had already crossed the stockade gate and charged towards them. The Trolls, as if awakening from a dream, immediately launched their attack.
However, the soldiers held their Ice Imprint Grip in front of them. The Trolls' attacks barely broke the Ice Armor on the shields, completely failing to penetrate the shields' defense. The soldiers slammed hard into the Trolls, and the spikes on the front of the Ice Imprint Grip pierced into the Trolls' bodies. The freezing runes erupted, and waves of cold air swept outwards.
The Trolls felt a cold current, their bodies became sluggish, and their movement and attacks slowed down.
The soldiers, however, were completely unaffected. They drew their Sanction Blade and plunged it into the Trolls' necks. Then, with a forceful push of their shields, they knocked the Troll corpses to the ground.
"Stop them! Don't let them cross the mountain pass!"
The Troll Chieftain shrieked. He was a minor chieftain of the Amani tribe, a die-hard among the Trolls. This time, he accepted the order to block the Kaldorei army with a determination to die.
Behind him, a Troll Witch Doctor struck his staff on the ground, and a strange energy spread to all the Trolls. The Trolls howled to the sky, their bodies swelling, their eyes blood red, like beasts.
Bloodlust!!?
Carlos was a bit surprised; this kind of spell was not something an ordinary Witch Doctor could learn. No wonder other armies, even with the help of Mages, couldn't break through this stockade. With the enhancement of Bloodlust and the protection of Voodoo, unless Turann High Mage or Gale came in person, other Mages wouldn't be of much use.
However, he quickly took countermeasures, "Charge towards the Troll Witch Doctor! Ignore the other Trolls; prioritize killing the Witch Doctor."
Currently, the biggest threat was the Troll Witch Doctor. Once he cast Voodoo Shield to protect the other Trolls, the Alpha Squad would face a group of invincible enemies. These Trolls, amplified by Bloodlust, had their strength enhanced and could already smash through the Ice Armor on the soldiers. Although there was still the protection of Ice Imprint Grip and armor of eternal winter, it was inevitable that some soldiers would be injured or even killed.
For the protection of the soldiers, the Troll Witch Doctor must be taken out first.
The soldiers who had entered the stockade gate immediately charged forward.
Indeed, the Troll Witch Doctor cast Voodoo, and the soldiers were completely unable to break through the Voodoo Shield, only able to passively take hits. Meanwhile, the invincible Trolls frantically shattered the soldiers' Ice Armor, and their immense strength sent the soldiers flying.
Fortunately, the protective capabilities provided by the armor of eternal winter were exceptionally strong, preventing the soldiers from suffering too much damage.
