Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: First Clash

With a swift motion.

Bahr lightly flicked his fingers, and the previously motionless Miss. Valentine, who had been lying on the ground, was suddenly transported in front of him. His face was cold as he said, "Paula, take Miss. Valentine and leave first."

Paula quickly picked up Miss. Valentine from the ground and turned to leave, not wanting to get in the boss's way.

Blackbeard watched this scene, his eyelids twitching violently. He had already thought this masked man's abilities were strange, but now, seeing this, they were even more bizarre than he'd imagined.

But he wasn't afraid in the slightest. His own ability was the bane of all Devil Fruits. He had just been caught off guard earlier—this time, he wouldn't be careless again.

Bahr glared fiercely at Blackbeard, pulling a long sword from a spatial rift. Gritting his teeth, he spat, "You bastard, I'm gonna kill you today!"

He usually didn't like causing trouble or fighting, but Blackbeard had dared to attack him. That was unforgivable. If he didn't beat this old bastard so badly even his own mother wouldn't recognize him, he'd write his name backward!

"Zehahahaha!" Blackbeard laughed heartily, his eyes instantly turning sharp, his tone full of disdain. "Come and try if you dare!"

Bahr's gaze hardened, his grip on the sword tightening further.

His words were fierce, but deep down, he was extremely wary of Blackbeard—especially after being caught by his ability earlier. He had tried to break free using his Space Transfer ability, but it had failed, leaving him completely immobilized, unable to move.

The Dark-Dark Fruit ability was indeed sinister, specifically targeting Devil Fruit users' bodies. No wonder it was called the "most ruthless" Devil Fruit.

But this ability wasn't without flaws. The process of being pulled in had a slight delay. Though dangerous, it also provided a chance to counter.

The battle was about to erupt.

Bahr's eyes flashed coldly as he struck first, swinging his sword horizontally. Where the blade passed, a clear fissure appeared in the air, rushing straight toward Blackbeard.

Blackbeard didn't dodge. His right hand turned into a swirling vortex of darkness. "Dark Water!"

The slash twisted and was devoured the moment it touched the darkness. He laughed loudly, "Useless! My darkness can absorb everything!"

Bahr's brow twitched. In the next instant, he appeared at Blackbeard's left side, his sword trailing a silver light as it aimed straight for Blackbeard's throat.

Blackbeard leaned back, his Adam's apple barely grazing the blade as he narrowly avoided the strike. Seizing the momentum, he kicked toward Bahr's abdomen—only for his foot to hit a transparent barrier with a dull thud. His eyelid twitched as black mist surged from his foot, instantly devouring the Space Barrier and allowing his kick to land.

Bahr teleported behind Blackbeard again, his sword now shimmering with dark purple patterns as he slashed toward the back of Blackbeard's neck, moving so fast only a blur could be seen.

"Damn fast," Blackbeard muttered, hurriedly raising his arm. Armament Haki instantly wrapped around it as he delivered a precise elbow strike to the side of the blade, forcibly blocking the slash.

"Clang!"

Metal trembled, sparks flying. Blackbeard suddenly grinned. "Your ability's pretty handy. Some kind of spatial ability, right? Not bad."

Bahr sneered. "Who cares what my ability is? As long as it can kill you!"

As he spoke, his Haki erupted explosively around him. His sword, carrying a sound like tearing air, slashed again. Blackbeard's arms instantly wrapped in black Haki as he grunted, forcibly taking the hit. The shockwave from their clash made the surrounding air tremble violently, even cracking the glass of nearby taverns with spiderweb fractures. The onlookers scattered in panic.

Van Auger's grip on his sniper rifle tightened, his heart pounding. "To think he can fight the captain head-on... Just who is this masked guy?"

He glanced at the unconscious Burgess and Doc Q on the ground, gritted his teeth, and rushed over to carry them away. "If this keeps up, the whole town's gonna be destroyed!"

Meanwhile, Bahr's blade had just grazed Blackbeard's shoulder when his wrist suddenly twisted, redirecting the strike upward. Blackbeard, however, used the recoil to spin, his left leg descending like a battleaxe. "Dark Whip!"

Bahr retreated half a step, raising his sword to meet the attack. With a sharp tear, half an inch of Blackbeard's boot sole was sliced off.

"Got you now!" Blackbeard suddenly lunged forward, his hands forming claws—his right hand aiming for Bahr's sword-wielding wrist, his left going straight for the throat. It was a textbook grappling move.

"Dream on." Bahr flicked his wrist, the hilt of his sword suddenly striking a pressure point in Blackbeard's palm. Blackbeard recoiled in pain but used the
