Chapter 7 - The Clash Between Humans and Beasts

Chapter Seven: The Clash Between Humans and Beasts

(From the First-Person Perspective)

After killing the Martial Spirit Masters, I finally managed to calm my emotions.

Seeing them surrounding Aislyn had filled me with intense rage and an uncontrollable desire to tear them all apart.

Yet, my composure soon returned. Although my urge to kill them in the most excruciating way grew stronger, self-control dominated my mind, allowing me to think rationally.

Even though I could have eliminated them all easily without them even scratching me, Aislyn was still trapped.

In a direct confrontation, I couldn't guarantee her safety, so I decided to launch a sudden attack.

Thinking back to the last battle, I remembered there had been six of them.

I had already killed five adults, leaving only a teenage Spirit Trainee. Without hesitation, I dashed toward the last living being in the area—aside from Aislyn and myself.

One hour later, I dealt with the final one.

To my surprise—and secret delight—he was carrying a spatial device shaped like a ring, with a capacity of three cubic meters. I hadn't expected to find such a thing in the hands of such weak Martial Spirit Masters.

This wasn't the first spatial device I had ever seen in my life.

A hundred years ago, three Martial Spirit Masters had come to our cave with a Spirit King in search of a spirit pearl. Those fools thought my mother was around twenty thousand years old, so they attacked her—and that was the last mistake they ever made in their lives.

All of them possessed spatial devices, which my mother paid no mind to. But to me, they were wonderful gifts—especially a small pendant with a self-extending chain capable of twenty cubic meters, which I now wore around my neck.

Even spirit beasts could use it easily.

The problem was that most spirit beasts weren't smart, and the few intelligent ones didn't care about such things, because spirit beasts, in general, paid no attention to them. When I discovered the potential for combining spatial devices, I was overwhelmed with excitement at the incredible possibilities they offered.

In any case, I hoped this human—the teenage Spirit Trainee—wouldn't try to trick me.

I had already given him his chance. He was under my control, and he would never be able to betray me or stand against me in his life.

As I made my way back, memories of the past began to surface. More than seven hundred years had passed since Aislyn hatched. During this time, our family had grown immensely.

My mother was very close to reaching one hundred thousand years of age.

According to her, less than a thousand years remained until she reached that milestone—a remarkably satisfying prospect. The difference between a spirit beast aged ninety thousand years and one aged one hundred thousand was like the gap between a talented Martial Spirit Predecessor and an ordinary Spirit King. The difference seemed small, but the increase in combat power was immense.

As for Aislyn, even though she was developing rapidly into a powerful spirit beast, it was only because I was feeding her my spiritual energy.

Sometimes she could purify spiritual energy through her meridians, but most of the time, she just wanted to play.

Currently, Aislyn's mentality and personality resembled that of a ten-year-old child, so I always tried to stay close to her, as it was common for her to run off twice a week.

Naturally, my personal development brought me joy as well.

Over the course of these seven hundred years, my training base had surpassed five thousand years, yet my current power equaled that of a spirit beast aged ten to twenty thousand years. As for defense, I would not yield to any defensive spirit beast aged thirty thousand years.

During this time, I had not focused solely on training.

I had finally mapped all of my meridians and now managed my spiritual power through a circulatory-like system. Of course, as my body grew, new branches would appear in my meridians, but my growth was slow, so I did not rush the process.

Furthermore, after Aislyn and I began training under my mother, she started explaining the cycle of youth—what could be done, what should be avoided, and where we should not go.

Although Aislyn paid little attention to these lessons, I absorbed the knowledge eagerly, asking countless questions.

My mother said that very few spirit beasts in the North had reached one hundred thousand years of age.

There was the "Heavenly Snow Catastrophe," a phoenix aged six hundred thousand years;

Then the "Frozen Green Poison Star Catastrophe," an ice scorpion aged three hundred thousand years;

And also the "Ice Demon," a colossal ice giant that had recently reached one hundred thousand years.

They were all collectively known as the Three Catastrophes of the North.

Anyway, about a year after Aislyn hatched, strange phenomena began to occur in the world.

The sky glowed with dark, shimmering colors, as if lightning flowed through the clouds, reflecting an overwhelming power.

Water in lakes and rivers started moving unnaturally, droplets dancing in the air.

The ground sometimes trembled violently, while a halo of blue and green light spun across the sky—a sign of immense energy.

Birds and beasts in the surrounding areas froze for a moment, as if the entire world was watching.

A month or more later, even more striking and intimate scenes unfolded.

The sky gradually split open, revealing a vast space, and sunlight streamed through the clouds, giving a sense of a new era beginning.

The wind moved more freely, carrying the scents of earth and flowers, as if nature itself welcomed the arrival of something new.

Cities and towns along the way seemed to transform gradually; old buildings glowed with golden light, and people felt a shift in the surrounding energy without understanding its source.

Water and rivers sparkled as if reflecting a new sky, foreshadowing a different era—a time that would be ruled by a new emperor.

At that moment, a group of humans appeared, soaring through the sky, entering the rift, and disappearing.

However, my mother noticed one of them—the one leading them, like an emperor guiding his people to conquer other kingdoms.

She said to me, "Remember this well… This person killed you and took the spirit pearl, your spirit bones, and the essence of your blood."

He spoke in a sorrowful voice, "It's a pity… he ascended to a higher world, and I won't be able to take my revenge in this life."

At that moment, the image of this person was etched into my mind, and I vowed never to forget him.

One day, I would ascend—and I would kill him, without fail.

What happened afterward was truly astonishing. A hundred years later, the world began to evolve noticeably, showing significant technological progress compared to my previous world.

This only strengthened my desire to assume a human form as quickly as possible, so I could blend in with humanity.

Before this, more than fifty percent of the Earth lay beyond human control, but that did not stop progress.

With technological advancement, humans found ways to hunt spirit beasts and claim their spirit pearls, significantly increasing the danger humans posed to the world.

Humans began acquiring unprecedented powers, capable of harnessing spiritual energy to enhance their weaponry.

Yet with this progress, the conflict between humans and beasts became far bloodier.

A continuous struggle unfolded: humans sought to kill spirit beasts to obtain their spirit pearls and expand their territories, while the beasts defended their lands from human encroachment. This escalating competition created an even greater threat to both sides, making the situation increasingly complex and perilous.

As humanity advanced, technology evolved at an astonishing pace. Lethal weapons powered by spiritual energy were developed, such as spirit cannons capable of releasing immense amounts of energy to destroy beasts quickly and efficiently.

Special armors were also invented, designed to enhance humanity's defenses using the same spiritual energy, granting them the resilience to withstand the devastating attacks of colossal beasts.

With this advancement, humans grew stronger, more capable of standing against the monsters. Yet, the evolution of this world was vastly different from what I had witnessed in my previous life.

In my former world, humanity relied on conventional technology—firearms, mechanical machines, and the sciences of steel and gunpowder.

But here, humans turned to spiritual energy in every aspect of life: from industry to medicine, from agriculture to daily survival.

This seamless integration of technology and spiritual energy allowed humans of this world to adapt far more rapidly to the challenges they faced.

Unlike my previous world, where technology was bound by material resources and traditional science, here it was nourished by the boundless flow of spirit.

That very difference enabled humanity in this world to surpass their limits, pushing the boundaries of technology across every field—and adding an entirely new dimension to their conflict with the spirit beasts.

Yet, such progress only fueled human greed, and in turn, the struggle deepened.

In this never-ending war, the land itself became a blood-soaked battlefield. Both sides grew ever stronger—but the cost was unbearable.
