Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: England's Fog Needs Sunflowers

Let's talk about why William Devonshire is a true genius.

Plants vs. Zombies is a strategy game.

It appeared in and around London. A month ago, William Devonshire was an unknown sophomore, but it was this ordinary person in the eyes of others who spent half a month doing all the work of game designers, artists, and game programmers.

After finishing it, I also did the work of a game tester, because as far as we know, no one has found any loopholes in this game.

After the game was completed, William Devonshire took on all the work of sales manager and logistics manager. He handled the negotiations for the game disc engraving himself. I heard that the engraver who engraved the game for William is now unable to eat or sleep all day long. He regrets that he did not buy the game or sign an agency contract when William Devonshire approached him to engrave the game disc.

He just did the OEM work for William Devonshire at the normal price of 0.46 pounds per disc. I have reason to believe that the engraver is now heartbroken and wants to commit suicide because he has not received any more orders from William Devonshire after he finished OEMing 150,000 game discs. He has missed too many opportunities.

Half a month ago, William Devonshire was a poor boy. After the game was made, he had no money to promote it and did not know any game agents. He had to find a way to promote the game himself. So how did he promote the game?

After I read William Devonshire's promotion plan, I think universities may deliberately add a real teaching case in their marketing courses in the future, because as far as I know, there is no sales case in society that is the same as William Devonshire's, so how did he do it.

William Devonshire was very clever and knew how to capitalize on his strengths. After he created the game, he took it to the Computer Science Department at the University of London and showed it to alumni of the gaming club. After receiving widespread praise from the alumni, he recommended it to them: "Would you buy it if he only sold it for £5 each?"

Are you kidding me, 5 pounds? In the eyes of his alumni, this relaxing strategy game that has never appeared on the market must be sold for at least 8 to 10 pounds.

Of course I would buy it if it only costs 5 pounds. For these game lovers, 5 pounds can only buy two burgers. How expensive can it be? Spending 5 pounds to buy a game they like is really nothing.

Then comes the really clever part of William Devonshire. He knew that he had no promotion channels, no money, and no helpers, so he came up with a way to get his university alumni to willingly buy game discs for him.

William Devonshire first registered all the copyrights with the Copyright Office and then spent 100 pounds to register two companies, one registered in England and the other in Ireland. He sold the sales rights of the game to his Irish company at a price of 1 pound per disc. In this way, he successfully avoided the problem that he did not have the right to sell game discs in England.

Why is this so? I think anyone who knows England and Ireland will understand what I am talking about, so I won't say much more on this issue.

After signing a contract with London University alumni at a shipping price of 4 pounds, the alumni sold the game to their classmates and friends for 6 pounds. I heard that a guy studying marketing at London University sold 200 game discs on the first day and made 400 pounds a day.

God, I also want to sell game discs to William Devonshire. I have been the editor-in-chief for more than 20 years and I don't even get 400 pounds a day. Maybe I should ask William Devonshire for advertising fees and writing fees.

The game first became famous at the University of London, and then after being introduced by students at the University of London, many college students around London soon knew about the game. With the spontaneous spread of college students, middle school students and elementary school students soon knew about it. After teenagers knew about it, their parents and relatives at home also knew that there was a very fun game on the market.

In less than a month, 150,000 Plants vs. Zombies game discs were sold in London and surrounding areas.

This sales method of first gaining fame in colleges and universities and then having students spontaneously spread it to society is truly ingenious.

Without spending a penny on publicity, the game started making money as soon as it went on sale. William Devonshire only spent half a day to convince the London manager of Jiarefu to sell the game's peripheral souvenirs at Jiarefu, and sold 6.45 million game peripherals in half a month.

Is it a genius idea to attract top companies such as EA, Ubisoft, Bestar, and Jiarefu in just one month? Of course it is.

When I saw the information that William Devonshire said the starting price was 100 million pounds, I was shocked beyond words. I don't know if the game can really sell for 100 million pounds, but after hearing the estimates of many game agents, I knew that this game can definitely sell 700,000 to 800,000 or even tens of millions of game discs worldwide.

If a game disc was selling for £8 I would definitely buy one to see what kind of game it was that young people were so crazy about.

In addition, 430,000 pieces of game peripherals worth more than 6.25 million pounds were sold on Jiarefu in just half a month. I don't know whether there will be a company that will spend 100 million pounds to buy the full copyright of the game, but I want to tell William Devonshire to keep the game. You can earn much more than 100 million pounds. Maybe in a few years this game will become the best-performing and most popular game in England in the world. It can become a symbol of English games being popular all over the world.

I want to tell William Devonshire that maybe it won't be long before Plants vs. Zombies will no longer be just your personal thing. The Sunflower, Peashooter, Fiery Pepper and other plant characters in the game may become symbols of our London many years later. When people think of these plants, they will remember that they appeared in London. They can become London's new favorites like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

William Devonshire, I beg you not to sell them, don't sell London's new darling, don't sell the long-awaited expectations of Londoners. It has been too long since England has had an export culture that can influence the whole world. We need it so much now. It marks the victory of English culture after the new millennium.

Otherwise, William Devonshire, you will become a sinner in London.

William was at home listening to his mother Lina sitting on the sofa and reading today's Sun to him in a rhythmic and excited manner. When he heard the last paragraph, Eric couldn't help but get angry and cursed the editor of The Sun. What a fucking London logo! What a fucking London needs it! Damn it, you The Sun need to write like this to attract more people to read the newspaper and cause more controversy.

You idiot! William could have imagined that it wouldn't take many days for someone to come out and oppose him selling the copyright of Plants vs. Zombies. Maybe even some London council members would come out and make a fuss. It was really a headache.

Although he was angry, William calmed down and thought about it and decided to let it go. Although the Sun caught him off guard this time and it would have a certain impact on his game sales, it would be relatively more beneficial to William. He believed that now the whole of England would know that there was a game that was going to be sold for 100 million pounds, which would make the game famous faster.

This will put more pressure on several companies that want to buy the game because new competitors will immediately appear.

Moreover, once the game becomes very famous, it won't just be daily necessities like game discs and T-shirts and hats that can make money. The cartoon characters in the game may appear in amusement parks, books, movies, TV shows, and plush toys, and may really become as popular as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck around the world.

This is all money. Yesterday, William had to consider the 100 million pounds price of Blockbuster, which was eager to go public. After today, maybe it is Blockbuster that is anxious. This kind of project that is destined to be a big hit and is closely related to Blockbuster's main business does not come out every year. If Blockbuster wants to obtain a higher market value when it goes public in the future, it will not give up this project.

It seems that one hundred million is really the amount, William was secretly happy, I may really become a billionaire in a few days.
