Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Being blocked at home by reporters

William felt very satisfied looking at his happy mother. His mother looked like she had been reborn today. She was full of energy and talked much more than usual. Now he no longer had to worry about his son's future, and he could live a more relaxed life.

"William, the Sun is truly amazing. They've dug up most of our family's information in just one day. Although some of it's inaccurate, it's basically all true. It's a pity that Mom is a woman and can't inherit your grandfather's title, but it seems you have a chance to inherit the earldom. I heard from your aunt Mary Hendrix of Oxford that the Earl of Oxford has been trying for ten years but still hasn't had a descendant."

"No, Mom, you know now.

The aristocracy in England has been suppressed to such an extent that now the aristocracy dare not even tell others that they are aristocrats. They have no benefits and are restricted in every way. I don't know why so many people want to become aristocrats.

Lina nodded somewhat sadly

"Yes, if it weren't for the law of inheritance of nobility, your grandfather wouldn't have to borrow money to inherit the title and eventually had to sell the family castle and property to pay off the debt after the title was inherited. In my generation, there was no male heir to inherit the title and he died in depression. What your grandfather was most unwilling to accept was that the title was inherited by that useless distant relative. He was always anxious when your grandfather was sick, but so what? He was given ten years, but still couldn't have children. The title will still return to our family," Lina said bitterly.

Seeing his mother talking about her sad story, William tried to persuade her: "Okay, Mom, let's not talk about this. What's the point of talking about this now? Let's talk about it when the time comes. Besides, the title is just that, maybe England will abolish the aristocracy someday. Now that so many people are against the aristocracy, let's just ignore it."

Lina patted William unhappily and said:

"No, the title must be taken back, William. You were still young at that time and couldn't understand your grandfather's pain and helplessness. Besides, the title still has many benefits. Otherwise, why do you think the parliament was so deliberate in suppressing the nobles? Isn't it because they were afraid that the nobles would take too many benefits?"

"Yes, yes, yes, my mother, you are right, but don't you think that I am not a pure-blooded Englishman? If I inherit the title, I don't know how many people will oppose it. It's good for us now. You can live the life you want in peace. In a few years, when my child is born, our family will be lively again."

Hearing William ask her to take care of the grandson, Lina complained to William angrily, "Ha, William, let me tell you, you can't bring me a grandson now. I'm not ready to be a grandmother. I'm only 39 years old, and I haven't accepted the fact that you have grown up. I get a headache just thinking about becoming a grandmother. God, that means I'm getting old."

William thought that he would have a cute baby who would call him dad in a baby voice. He was happy but also broke out in a cold sweat. William, who had never been a father in his two lives, didn't know how to face the child. He hurriedly said, "No, Mom, I'm only 19 years old. I don't even have a girlfriend. How can I be a father?"

When Lina heard William talking about his girlfriend, she said worriedly, "William, it's time for you to get a girlfriend, otherwise the newspapers will definitely say that you are gay."

William nodded in agreement. He was no longer the taciturn and bookworm William who devoted himself to studying. He was already over 30 years old in his heart, but he decided to let things take their own course when it came to having a girlfriend.

Beep beep, William's phone rang. He took out the phone and saw that it was Anthony calling. William got up and walked to the window to answer the call.

"Hello, Anthony."

Anthony's anxious voice came from the phone: "Hello, Mr. Devonshire, have you thought about how to deal with today's report in The Sun? Perhaps we can send a lawyer's letter to warn them and not let them act so recklessly."

After thinking it over carefully, William said to Anthony in a serious tone, "Anthony, not yet. Today's reports are normal. Although they will have some adverse effects on us, today's reports will be more helpful to us. Now is not the time to offend the media. Offending them will cause us greater harm. We need the media to speak well of us right now. In a few days, the whole world will know about the game Plants vs. Zombies. Let them report on it. As long as it is not intentional rumor-mongering, we don't care."

Anthony thought for a moment and nodded. "Okay, Mr. Devonshire, I will do as you say and carefully review the comments in each newspaper. I won't bother you any more. Goodbye, Mr. Devonshire."

"Bye, Anthony, call me if you need anything."

"OK"

After hanging up the phone, William opened the curtains, and suddenly a flash of light flashed in front of his eyes, followed by a crackling flash of light.

William looked out the window and saw that his house was now full of reporters.

"William, William, can you accept our interview?"

"William Devonshire, I am a reporter from The Times. Please accept my interview."

"William, I'm from The Times. Can I give you an interview?"

William was overwhelmed when he heard that the Times, Daily Telegraph, Guardian and other largest newspapers in England had people lining up there. These guys came so quickly. Looking at the excited reporters outside the house who kept taking pictures of him, William knew that he would have no peace if he didn't go out to be interviewed today. It was a good opportunity for him to take over the reporters' hands and pass on some words that were favorable to the game.

After thinking about it, William realized that the timing was right. He said to his mother who was approaching the window, "Mom, there are too many reporters outside. I'll go and send them away."

"Well, William, be careful when you speak and don't fall into their trap," Lina warned

"I understand. Don't worry, Mom. I will pay attention."

After William opened the door and walked out, he stood on the steps in front of the door and smiled at the reporters who were taking pictures.

"Okay, everyone, I accept your interview, but please be careful. You can ask me three questions, and after that, please leave the street. You are already disturbing other residents, and be careful that they call the police."

When the reporters heard William say that someone might call the police, their voices suddenly became quiet, but they soon started asking questions loudly again. For these reporters, they were not afraid of the police. They would just leave when the police came.

"Okay, just three questions, otherwise I will refuse to be interviewed. I have the right to refuse," William shouted loudly.

Well, it is William's right to refuse an interview.

Just like journalists have the right to interview, but if others don't want to pay attention to you, you can't drag William into it, otherwise you will definitely be sued.

There are still smart people. William didn't wait for a while before he heard someone ask him

"William, I'm a reporter from The Times. Linda, I want to ask you, how did you calculate the 100 million you quoted for yourself? Do you think anyone would pay such a high price for you?"

"That's two questions, ma'am. Since you're a lady, I'll let the first one go."

"The Sun's report this morning made it very clear. The game discs alone are expected to sell over 60 million. With the game's huge success, I think the peripheral products will easily sell over 100 million annually. Note that I said one year, and that doesn't even include stuffed toys, movies, TV shows, books, amusement parks, and the intangible publicity this game brings to the copyright company. These are even more important to listed companies. I think the stock price increase could be several times, or even ten times, the price of purchasing the copyright. With the IT industry so hot right now, I think if I could sell it for 200 million pounds, many companies would be interested."
