Chapter 63 - BATTLE ON

CHAPTER 63 – BATTLE ON

Shockwaves shook the entire area. Figures flew as they battled beasts head-on.

It was now four hours since the beginning of the final trial. The awakened fought through the war-torn city. Most of them formed teams, while some chose to go solo.

On top of a building, a fine teenage boy with silver hair and beautiful blue eyes that could capture souls stood. He looked around as if trying to figure out the depth of this hell.

"What did you see?" a beautiful slender teenage girl asked.

"Gods, it's chaos in here," Ethan said.

With his [Third Eye], he could see a group of awakened—about five—battling a turtle-like beast. The beast had jagged, sharp edges for a shell.

"That must be the boss," he softly said.

"Do they need help?" Lynx asked.

"No, they're doing pretty well," Ethan said. He had been monitoring them for a couple of minutes now, and they were keeping the beast in a tight position.

First, they isolated the boss—which should be a sacred beast—from its group. Because of how slow it was, they managed to keep it from escaping. Then they started hacking away, but sacred beasts boasted strong defenses.

"I'm guessing they're between middle to high stage awakened," Ethan thought.

"Then let's move. We don't have much time—I'm sure those assholes are already raking in those points," Freddy cursed.

"Relax. I've spotted a sacred boss already, but I can see a group of about ten heading in that direction," Ethan said.

"So let's move, we don't have much time," Gloria said.

Immediately, the group moved in. The spot Ethan was talking about was about 200 yards away from where they were staying—that was like the distance of two football fields.

The group tried as much as possible to avoid the main street. Ethan was sure there should be flying beasts in the area.

BOOM!

Three minutes in, they suddenly heard a big explosion. It shook the ground like a drilling machine, and immediately the group halted.

BOOM!

A large toad-like beast with a big belly flew into the sky. It was about the size of two buses combined. Its breath heaved fire. This was a fire-type beast.

"Yh, now the thrill," Ethan laughed as he increased his speed.

"Damn you! I told you not to startle it! It was supposed to be a sneak attack!" Ethan heard a bold voice coming from around the corner of a building.

The group immediately scattered as they threw attacks at it. But the beast was too fast. It was moving as if performing a step technique.

"What?" Ethan exclaimed. Although he had seen beasts perform techniques before, that only applied to humanoid beasts—but this one was a normal beast.

"Interesting," Lynx smiled as he moved with speed almost equal to Ethan. This, of course, shocked Ethan.

BANG!

The beast slapped a thin-looking male. The guy felt as if a mountain had crushed him. His body flew like a catapult and smashed into a porch by the side of the road, crushing it completely.

"Ah, he's entered critical mode—he's slipping away," Ethan said.

But he still remained calm. Even though the sacred beast was cornered, it was still beating the group and wasn't at the slightest disadvantage.

Reaching the battleground, Ethan told Lynx and Gloria to rush in.

"You guys have to be careful. I'm sending you two because of your fire aspect and beast aspect," Ethan said. "I'll be watching from the back to find a loophole. Once I find it, I'll rush in and kill it."

"Roger," they both said.

The two darted in as Gloria fired her fireballs. The toad opened its mouth and swallowed her attacks like candy.

Whiplash! Splat!

Gloria whipped it with her lashers when it rushed forward. It suffered an injury as it stepped back.

"Eat that, sucker," Gloria chuckled.

The sacred beast turned its toad-like eyes out of instinct. A spear aimed at its head. Lynx moved like a killer, but strangely, the beast moved with a technique—dodging Lynx's death strike with ease.

"The more I look at this beast, the more I'm amazed," Ethan said, surprised. "It's as if the beast is using an advanced technique."

BOOM!

Ethan used [Space Skip] as he performed First Dragon Subduing Palm. His speed was like a bullet.

BANG!

The palm landed perfectly on the beast's belly, sending it flying. The awakened nearby were shocked.

"Step back," Ethan said as he calmly walked forward. He then summoned his [Death Blade].

"Who's this guy?" an awakened with a stiff face said. "Step back! This beast is dangerous—you'll only get yourself killed."

"Hmph. I saved your life just now," Ethan said calmly.

Earlier, the beast had performed an insane movement and disappeared from sight. Even Ethan wasn't able to perceive it—until he used [Third Eye]. Its attack was going straight for the stiff-faced guy's head.

"I said step back!" the guy argued.

BOOM!

The beast rushed out again. Strangely, its size increased. Ethan could sense that its strength had also increased.

"So," Ethan said, narrowing his eyes. "You were holding back too, huh?"
