Chapter 17 - Gwen: Is My Hero You?

After hanging up the phone, he asked Wanda if she wanted to go. However, Wanda clearly didn't want to bother him while he was drinking, mainly because she didn't know Peter Parker and didn't want to.

Since Wanda didn't want to go, Chen Xi didn't force it. However, when he arrived at the agreed location, he found that the people who had come were not just Parker; there were also his good friend Harry and Gwen.

Perhaps knowing that Chen Xi didn't have a good impression of Mary Jane, Parker was smart enough not to invite her.

"Hey, the great screenwriter is here."

Parker stood up to greet him first. Harry, a pretty decent, wealthy second-generation kid, was rather reserved. It was unimaginable for him to have dinner with his idol.

Gwen's gaze had been fixed on Chen Xi, as if she wanted to get her own answer. Seeing this, Parker joked, "Gwen, can you stop being so infatuated? It wouldn't be good if you scared Mr. Chen Xi away."

"Sorry, I think he looks a lot like someone."

Gwen awkwardly retracted her gaze and smiled.

"Who, like, your dream girl? Hmm, I bet there are millions of girls across America who feel the same way," Harry teased.

"No way, I'm serious," Gwen retorted, her cheeks flushing slightly.

"Heh, let's not go there. Let's order. It's a great honor to be meeting Mr. Chen Xi today."

Harry's social skills were much better than Parker's. He quickly changed the subject, knowing girls could be sensitive.

He knew Parker was pretty frugal, but there was no way they could be cheap when taking Chen Xi out for dinner. He quickly handed the menu to Chen Xi.

"I'm easy, I'll eat anything. You and Parker can decide, just don't order too much."

Chen Xi shook his head, casually selecting a few dishes. Then, he passed the menu to Parker. It was always like this when friends ate together, constantly deferring to each other...

Peter, though frugal, could be incredibly generous when it mattered. The Tobey Maguire version of Spider-Man was the real deal, always reliable.

Though they weren't overly familiar, the group, being young, shared similar interests and hobbies, leading to an easy conversation. Chen Xi's descriptions of the future particularly captivated the young people, filling them with longing for the world he portrayed.

"Chen Xi, no wonder you can write such brilliant scripts. Hearing your descriptions of the future, I finally understand why you're so successful."

Peter said with immense admiration. After they got to know each other, Chen Xi had asked them to call him by his name; he disliked formal addresses.

Gwen's eyes were sparkling too, filled with curiosity about the future world. If it was really as Chen Xi described...

Unfortunately, Chen Xi's descriptions were only half-truths; the future would be filled with challenges.

Taking the opportunity while going to the bathroom, Peter expressed his desire to follow Chen Xi, not wanting to waste his time and his abilities.

"Peter, have you really thought this through? You should have your own brilliant future. Following me might make you do things that go against your sense of justice."

Chen Xi lit a cigarette, took a drag, and then patted Parker on the shoulder, asking seriously,

He knew Parker wanted a car because Mary Jane's boyfriend drove a sports car to pick her up. He also longed to own a car, and following him was just a whim.

According to the development of the plot, his Uncle Ben would also die because of him going to underground boxing matches. His momentary lapse in judgment, letting a robber go, would kill his uncle, and it would finally make him understand what "with great power comes great responsibility" meant.

Although Chen Xi thought this kind of reasoning was just a load of moral high-ground nonsense, some form of justice had to be upheld.

If the world was full of despicable and shameless guys like him, wouldn't it be a mess?

Chen Xi didn't think he was being a bleeding heart. If Parker could wholeheartedly join his team, he would be very welcome. If he was half-hearted, then he would be a hidden danger...

Parker didn't expect Chen Xi to be so serious about this. He thought he would just be going to the set to do some stunts or difficult actions.

Judging from what he said, was he going to do something illegal and criminal?

This left Parker stunned for a long moment. Ultimately, he was still just a high school kid and hadn't considered things that deeply; he'd need to experience more first.

"Alright, think about it. Some dark worlds you think don't exist, they actually do."

Chen Xi patted his shoulder and turned to leave. Back in the private room, he saw Harry had already paid the bill.

"It's great that Parker has a friend like you. Cherish your brotherhood," Chen Xi said with a smile. To say he wasn't envious would be a lie; Harry and Parker were truly a tragic couple!

Unfortunately, he didn't even have a friend. Tony Stark, a friend in name only, could be considered half a friend, and yet he'd watched Tony walk into a pit of fire without stopping him…

If Tony knew about this, would he strangle him?

"I've known Parker for so many years, I believe we'll be friends for life."

Harry laughed proudly. His relationship with Parker was so close they could share a pair of pants.

"Alright!"

Chen Xi didn't say anything more, sighing internally that even brotherhood couldn't compare to a woman...

After dinner, the group split up. In the restaurant's parking lot, Peter saw Gwen hesitating, wanting to tell her to hurry up and get in the car, but Harry stopped him.

"Idiot Parker, mind your own business. Let's go."

Harry was perceptive, hitting the gas and speeding off while Peter looked confused.

"What's up? Gwen, do you have something to say?" Chen Xi asked knowingly, wanting to tease her.

"..."

After a few seconds of silence, Gwen looked up at Chen Xi, and said, word by word, "Are you him?"

"What do you think? You little girl whose legs have turned to jelly."

Chen Xi stared at her eyes, teasing with a smile.

As Chen Xi finished speaking, a huge surprise instantly enveloped Gwen. She covered her mouth in excitement, and moving tears actually welled up in her eyes.
