"You mean Valeria came along too?"
Susan asked, her voice tinged with tension.
Valeria had appeared here but then suddenly vanished. Where could she possibly be?
Her gaze sharply focused on a point not far away.
There, Franklin stood tall. Every time someone tried to attack him, two mechanical insects would block the assault.
Susan had no proof, and under these circumstances, she had no idea how an ordinary person could locate Franklin precisely. But Valeria… surely she could manage it.
A faint thought flickered in Susan's mind.
"I'll go find Valeria," she said.
Using the buildings for cover, Susan rushed toward Franklin's location.
Those who got close to Franklin were immediately attacked by the mechanical insects. Yet, strangely, although Franklin clearly noticed Susan approaching, he didn't stop her.
He was letting her come.
In that moment, Susan realized something.
Perhaps Valeria had allowed Franklin to let her pass willingly. Otherwise, how could an ordinary person survive in this place?
"You're here, Mom."
Seeing Susan, Franklin's expression carried a trace of irritation. "If you had sided with me from the beginning, none of this would have happened. Chen Xi would still be alive, and you would have been back on the right path…"
"I told you before—I'm not your mother."
The same truth had been clear to Valeria, so why couldn't Franklin grasp it?
Susan didn't want to argue further. She stood in front of Franklin, her eyes scanning for Valeria.
"What are you looking for?" Franklin asked. "Looking for Valeria, I suppose?"
He directly named the reason Susan had come: "Have you admitted Valeria is your daughter?"
"I don't want to talk about it anymore!" Susan said coldly.
Repeating the same argument endlessly served no purpose.
"Don't worry. Valeria is my sister and the most important person to me. I will not harm her. But if you don't do as I say, you will die!"
Someone who refused to follow the original plan would be dealt with.
"I can't let others kill you, so I'll do it myself."
With that, Franklin charged at Susan.
Susan immediately dodged, rolling to evade Franklin's strike.
But barely had she regained her footing when another attack came.
Franklin's abilities were extraordinary. He seemed to anticipate every move, waiting for her next attack.
This person knew her well.
No.
He knew Susan from that world very well.
Susan realized she couldn't defeat Franklin. Deeply.
Just as she faced imminent defeat, a hand silently appeared behind Franklin.
With a snap, Franklin's neck was effortlessly twisted. Then, flames erupted, instantly engulfing him.
It was Chen Xi and Qin Gelei.
Chen Xi had broken Franklin's neck, and Qin Gelei had burned him.
Susan was stunned. She didn't know how to react.
"Why? Are you sad I killed Franklin?" Chen Xi asked.
"Of course not. I never thought that way," Susan said.
She believed Franklin's fate was self-inflicted. A bit of pity, yes—but nothing more.
Thinking of Valeria, she couldn't help but feel a little sad.
"Valeria would be so upset if she knew."
Unlike them, Valeria was Franklin's sister—they had grown up together, and Franklin had been decent toward her.
Chen Xi and Qin Gelei didn't comment—they quickly found the unconscious Valeria.
When she woke and learned the news, she stayed silent for a long time.
Her eyes were red.
After a long pause, she finally spoke:
"…I expected my brother might end up like this."
"I don't hate any of you. I just feel very, very sad."
Valeria buried her face in her knees and cried silently.
Franklin was gone, eliminated by Chen Xi.
The mechanical insects were cleared away.
Chen Xi and Qin Gelei temporarily left, since both had been involved in Franklin's death.
Susan stayed behind, comforting Valeria.
"I hate that person… the one who manipulated my brother against Chen Xi!" Valeria cried, finally lifting her head.
She sniffled and looked at Susan. "Do you know who manipulated my brother? I'm sure you do. Even if you don't, Chen Xi definitely knows."
Valeria smiled faintly. "Chen Xi is amazing—he knows so many things. I told my brother countless times not to oppose Chen Xi. He wasn't a match, and that voice… it was obviously malicious. But my brother wouldn't listen—"
"This outcome wasn't anyone's wish. Don't be sad anymore," Susan said, patting Valeria's shoulder.
War was over. Everyone was cleaning up the aftermath.
