Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Maintaining a High Profile

Luke didn't return until most of the guests in the side hall had left.

"How did the talk go?"

"Very good, nearly 90% complete."

Philip sighed and said, "I don't know whether what you are doing is a good thing or a bad thing. Politics is a big quagmire. Once you fall into it, it is difficult to pull out."

"It is precisely because of the mud pit that the saplings can absorb enough nutrients, and the company has ample room for development."

"That's true, but you've picked the wrong person. Donald is a businessman, not a politician, and the possibility of him moving into the White House is extremely low."

"Whoever told you a businessman can't be president, just wait and see, that guy will surprise everyone."

Philip shook his head, disapproving.

Emily came over and asked, "What are you talking about?"

"Future President of the United States, Emily, do you support Donald becoming the next President of the United States?"

"I don't support him, I support Chirac."

"Why?"

"Because Chirac is a woman."

Luke was stunned. "That makes sense."

As the melodious music sounded, it was time to dance.

Men and women of all stripes walked onto the dance floor, enjoying the wonders of upper-class life.

Luke took Emily off the stage and after two ballroom dances, he returned to the living room. Robert Downs was waiting there. When he saw the purple-haired girl in a gorgeous dress, a flash of surprise flashed in his eyes, and then he returned to normal.

"Boss, the bank people have arrived and are in the conference room on the second floor."

Luke nodded, "Let's proceed according to the plan."

"knew."

Robert nodded to the girl and turned to leave.

As an FBI agent, Emily has a lot of curiosity.

"What plan are you talking about?"

"Financing matters."

"Funding?" Emily asked in surprise. "Is ShowMe really in need of money?"

"No shortage."

"Why raise funds if you don't need money?"

"Some things are not up to you to decide."

Luke took a sip from his wine glass and said calmly, "It's like when you're starving and see a big, fragrant roast lamb chop hanging in a roadside window. Even though you know it belongs to someone else, you still can't resist the urge to eat it."

"ShowMe is like that lamb chop. Some people want to bite off a piece of fat to satisfy their craving, while others want to swallow it whole, meat and bones."

"That's not the case! Your company has only been established for a few days?"

"The value of an internet company lies not in its age but in its future. Do you know how many users ShowMe has?"

Emily hesitated and said, "Eight million?"

Luke smiled and shook his head. "Those are imaginary numbers, just bullshit. The actual number of users is 5.2 million, with around 4.8 million daily active users. Those are just the results of the first two months. Imagine how many users ShowMe will have in a year?"

Five million in two months, more than thirty million in one year, and two years...

Emily's breathing began to quicken.

Luke continued,

There is a famous quote in Capital:

If a business reaches a 10% profit margin, it's guaranteed to be used everywhere; at 20%, it becomes active; at 50%, it becomes desperate; over 100%, it dares to trample on all human laws; if it reaches 300%, the devil is born. ShowMe's current market capitalization is about 80 million, and in a year it will reach 2 billion, a 250-fold profit. Who wouldn't be tempted?

"Aren't you dangerous then?"

"It's not dangerous."

Luke waved his hand nonchalantly. If someone was really blind enough to cause trouble for him, he wouldn't mind letting the other person see what ghost fire was.

"By the way, there's something I need your help with."

Luke called Alimi over and whispered something in her ear.

I don't know what he said, but the latter kept shaking his head.

"No, I don't want to be a maid."

"It's just a show!"

"Even acting is not good."

Luke looked at her steadily and pleaded, "Just once."

Emily opened her mouth but remained speechless. After hesitating for a long time, she reluctantly nodded.

Luke raised his eyebrows smugly.

Everything is feared for the first time. Once there is a first time, there will be a second time. Once there is a second time, there will be countless times.

You little bitch, you put on my clothes and you still want to run away.

On the second floor of the Hilton Hotel, in the easternmost conference room.

Managers from major banks sat idly on the sofa, some smoking, some drinking, and some resting with their eyes closed. They had been in this state for a long time, but the protagonist had not shown up yet.

Bob Jack from Citibank glanced at his watch and said unhappily,

"It's been half an hour. Whether he will come or not, don't waste our time."

Robert quickly apologized, "Wait a minute, wait a minute, the boss will be here soon."

Reagan Connor of Chase Bank quipped,

"I heard that the founder of ShowMe is a 17-year-old kid. Robert, you're really good at this. You're actually helping a kid."

Robert said with a wry smile,

"It doesn't matter who you work for; what matters is whether your boss is capable."

The person next to him continued,

"So, your boss is very powerful?"

"Of course, otherwise you wouldn't have waited for him for half an hour."

Bob Jack took a puff of his cigar and said calmly,

"We're sitting here just out of courtesy."

"I understand. I understand everything."

Robert kept smiling throughout, but there was a barely perceptible coldness glint in the depths of his eyes.

A few minutes later, the door to the conference room finally opened, and the radiant Emily walked in. She walked straight to the main seat and sat down, suppressing her restlessness and saying,

"The young master has something urgent to do, so he asked me to talk to you. If you have any requests, please tell me and I will convey them to the young master."

As soon as the words fell, the conference room instantly boiled over.

The bank managers were furious. They had waited for dozens of minutes, but the real boss hadn't appeared. Only a messenger arrived. Who did that guy think he was? Hitler!

Bob Jack put his cigar into the ashtray and said grimly,

"Where is Luke Xiao? I want to see him."

Emily glanced at him and said indifferently,

"The young master said, if you want ShowMe shares, sit down and talk to me. If you don't want them, you can leave now."

Bob was turned away and his already bad temper instantly flared up. He walked away without saying a word.

Emily didn't stop him and looked at the others.

"You can go too."

The rest of us looked at each other, our eyes flickering, but no one left.

Seeing them like this, Emily couldn't help but think of what Luke had said: the people in the conference room are a group of untamed hounds. If you are cautious, they will bar their teeth; if you brandish a whip, they will be timid. If you maintain a high posture, the hounds will submit to you.

This sentence was so true that Emily's confidence increased and her tone became more uplifting.

"Now we can talk."

"Who comes first?"

Robert coughed and put a pre-contract on the table.

"This is Chase's acquisition plan."

Emily turned to the last two pages of the contract, glanced at them, and threw them into the trash can.

"Next one."
