Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Spoils of Chaos

[Hidden Mission "Sacrifice Yu Xiaogang" Complete!] [System Reward: Five-Hundred-Year Yellow Lightning Spirit Ring!] [Bonus Reward: Space Storage Ring!] [Sacrifice Points +50.] [Due to the host's current circumstances, rewards have been placed in storage. The host may claim them at any time.]

As the system's notifications faded, the effect was instantaneous. Yu Xiaogang, who had been running at full tilt, suddenly felt the world spin. His eyes went dark, and he collapsed face-first onto the forest floor. The momentum of his fall flung Tang San, who was still gripping his hand, through the air like a ragdoll—directly toward the enraged Datura Snake.

Huo Feng, who had anticipated the collapse, was in a much better position. The moment Yu Xiaogang went down, he executed a skillful roll, absorbing the force of the fall and landing in a stable crouch.

Screech!

At the same time, Luo Sanpao let out a pained cry and also fell to the ground. Its body dissolved into a stream of purple light that shot back into Yu Xiaogang's body. The impact of his returning Spirit seemed to injure the Grandmaster further, and he went from being simply weak to completely unconscious.

"Grandmaster! What's wrong, Grandmaster?!" Huo Feng shouted, deliberately making his voice sound panicked as he rushed to Yu Xiaogang's side. "Are you okay?" It was all an act, of course. Yu Xiaogang might be out cold, but Tang San was still conscious, and he needed to make his reaction look convincing.

At that moment, Tang San staggered to his feet. He had been stunned when his teacher had suddenly thrown him. If he hadn't instinctively activated his Xuantian Technique to protect himself, the impact might have been much worse. Hearing Huo Feng's shouts, he whipped his head around. His teacher, who had been fine just a second ago, was now lying motionless on the ground. Beside him, Huo Feng looked anxious and helpless.

Hiss!

The sharp sound of the Datura Snake cut through his thoughts. Tang San spun back around just in time to see the ferocious serpent twisting its massive body toward him, its jaws wide. It was coming for him, and it was unbelievably fast.

This is bad! Tang San cursed inwardly. The snake had clearly marked him as its primary target.

With no time to think, he pushed off the ground, his body leaping lightly into the air. He flicked his left hand, and a silent black streak shot from his sleeve—a hidden arrow he had secretly crafted. At the same time, his eyes glowed with an intense purple light. With his Xuantian Technique and Purple Demon Eye both running at full power, he could just barely track the snake's movements.

Clink!

The sound of metal on stone echoed through the woods. The hidden arrow struck the snake's hard scales, sending a shower of sparks into the air but failing to penetrate. The sharp sting of the impact, however, sent the beast into a frenzy. A faint yellow glow emanated from its dark green scales. Tang San's attack had completely enraged it.

The Datura Snake's speed doubled, and it closed the distance in an instant. At the last possible second, Tang San pulled out the dagger Yu Xiaogang had given him. He channeled all the power of his Xuantian Technique into his hands, and the dagger began to pulse with a faint blue light.

The snake was upon him, its foul-smelling breath washing over him in a cold wave that made him shiver. Using Controlling Crane, Capturing Dragon, he raised his left hand and created a powerful suction force that pulled the snake's lunging head slightly off course.

Schlick!

In that split second, he lunged forward. The blue-lit dagger shot into the snake's open mouth, burying itself to the hilt. The massive, four-meter-long body went rigid.

"Hah..." Tang San let out a long, shuddering breath, sweat pouring down his face. His movements had looked smooth and flawless, but in reality, he had pushed his body to its absolute limit. He couldn't shake the feeling that his body was weaker than it should be. The second sacrifice, just two days prior, had taken a heavy toll.

Suddenly, the stiff body of the snake began to thrash violently. It whipped its body back and forth in a furious death throe, destroying everything around it. Trees were splintered and rocks were thrown as it unleashed its final, desperate burst of energy.

"Not good!" Tang San thought, his eyes wide with horror.

The Datura Snake fixed its scarlet eyes on him, filled with pure hatred. With the last of its strength, it swung its massive tail in a devastating arc.

"Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track!" Tang San tried to dodge, but his legs wouldn't respond. His Xuantian Technique was completely depleted. He was frozen in place, his legs trembling from exhaustion.

WHAM!

The heavy tail slammed into him with brutal force, sending his small body flying. He didn't stop until he crashed into a thick tree several meters away.

"Puh!"

A spray of blood erupted from Tang San's mouth. His vision went dark, and he slumped to the ground, unconscious.

"Tsk, tsk," Huo Feng clicked his tongue, flashing over to Tang San's side. "Did he really get taken out by one tail whip?" He quickly checked his pulse. "Fortunately, he's still breathing. He's not going to die."

Huo Feng felt a wave of relief. If Tang San died now, who would he sacrifice in the future? Seeing that both Tang San and Yu Xiaogang were out for the count, he turned his attention to the dying snake. It continued to thrash for another minute before its struggles finally ceased. It fell to the ground with a heavy thud, unmoving.

As it died, pale yellow specks of light began to drift from its corpse, gathering above its body and slowly condensing into a bright, shining yellow halo.

"A yellow Spirit Ring," Huo Feng said, his curiosity piqued. It was the first one he had ever seen up close. The 400-year ring was far more impressive than the faint white rings of the Nether Wolves. "What a pity." He already had a superior 500-year ring waiting for him. Otherwise, this Datura Snake's ring would have been a perfect choice.

[Ding!]

The system's voice suddenly sounded.

[Tip: A Spirit Ring generated by a spirit beast is an entity separate from the beast's corpse. It can be sacrificed independently.]

"A separate sacrifice?" A slow, greedy smile spread across Huo Feng's face. That meant he could sacrifice the snake and its Spirit Ring for two separate rewards! A 400-year yellow Spirit Ring wouldn't go to waste after all. He wondered how much it was worth.

Without hesitation, he gave the command. "System, sacrifice the Datura Snake's Spirit Ring!"

[Ding!] [Sacrifice of Four-Hundred-Year Datura Snake Spirit Ring successful!] [Sacrifice Points +100.]

One hundred points! Not bad at all. Sacrificing the Level 29 Yu Xiaogang had only netted him 50 points.

Huo Feng nodded, pleased with the result. He then looked at the snake's lifeless body on the ground. "System, sacrifice the Datura Snake."

[Ding!] [Sacrifice of Datura Snake successful!] [Sacrifice Points +100.]
