Chapter 32 - Darkness Smiles at Me

"I've already explained it to the collectors: the events outside Nevermore's facilities have nothing to do with the academy, and that I can assure you." said Larissa Weems as she guided Jonathan through the academy grounds.

"Is everyone in class?" Jonathan asked, clearly a little confused upon noticing the absence of students.

If his information was correct, this would be the time when students were usually engaged in social activities.

But now, he couldn't find a single student. None were present.

"Some are in the courtyard."

Jonathan nodded, walking through the place as if Larissa's presence didn't matter to him, while his mind began to stir up old memories. He didn't recognize any of these places, but the importance this place held for him was undeniable.

This was the perfect place to find special individuals who could become part of his team. Without wanting to create a force bound by loyalty, there was no better place than this academy.

Jonathan entered the courtyard and began to see many students doing all sorts of things one could imagine.

In seconds, he activated his observation ability, and his senses extended across the surroundings.

If anything could help him act like a detective, it was that particular skill.

It was also the reason Jonathan could use his title and carry out missions with greater ease.

With his energy manipulation, heightened senses, and his hunter's instinct activated, everything before his eyes became clearer.

"My office is this way, please. This isn't the time for you to be seeing the students." Larissa acted naturally, but inside she was growing very nervous.

Having someone from the Belmont family in an academy full of outcasts where werewolves lived was extremely dangerous.

It was well known that the Belmonts hunted for sport. Their favorite prey were werewolves and vampires. On their own, they had nearly driven vampires to extinction, which was astonishing.

In this academy, there were many students, some of whom would be seen as monsters in the eyes of common humans. What Larissa feared most was that some reckless action by the students would make Jonathan take a dangerous decision.

"You know I'm looking for the killer. If I find clues here, I'll leave before I even consider staying." Jonathan paid no attention to Larissa and continued observing the students, who after a few seconds noticed his presence.

Some even secretly pulled out their phones to record, but before any of them could press the record button, all the phones without exception flew out of their hands and crashed against a nearby wall.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

"Rule 245: do not record personnel from The Healing Church." Jonathan examined the aura of these students, and every single one of them was normal.

After a brief observation, Jonathan confirmed they were all perfectly ordinary students.

If he were looking for other kinds of problems here, he would only find outcast kids scarred by their pasts. That left him wondering if it would really be a good idea to recruit students for his personal group.

Still, it wasn't like he was searching for extraordinary warriors.

"Let's go." Jonathan turned around and soon left the academy courtyard.

The students who had been affected by Jonathan's sudden telekinetic attack picked up their phones and quickly walked away.

A figure dressed in black, who seemed to be making her rounds, asked: "Is he a real priest, or just someone playing dress-up?"

The girl beside her, wearing colorful clothes—Enid—leaned closer to Wednesday, who had just asked a question that terrified many of the students, and whispered: "He's going to hear you."

"Who is he that you fear him so much?" Wednesday, without an ounce of fear, watched from a distance as Jonathan's figure disappeared.

"He's a killer, a hunter of people like us. Well… not exactly like you, but people like him have hunted my kind for generations." Real terror appeared on Enid's face, which only made Wednesday feel even more drawn to that mysterious man.

"What's he doing in the academy?"

"He's here on a supervision mission. We received clear instructions to stay away from him. Even the academy can't stop him if he really wants to kill someone." Ajax Petropolus, a boy wearing a cap that hid his head, vanished as quickly as he could after seeing a real hunter.

Wednesday, on the other hand, kept an unusual smile and murmured: "My ticket out is here… darkness smiles at me."
