Chapter 44 - The Darkness Behind the Lie

Chapter 44 - The Darkness Behind the Lie

"I'll take care of this." Jonathan underestimated how much interest Wednesday could have in certain things.

Her words might say she didn't care, but her thoughts could really mean something else.

"Come on, big man, are you going to answer my question?" Jonathan's voice was growing so impatient that he was about to kill this man and leave the place.

Terry looked at Jonathan and said: "You have no idea… Hahaha."

Jonathan applied more force, which cut off Terry's breathing. "Then tell me, who is hunting me?"

"We just follow simple orders. I'm part of a private organization that focuses on controlling superhumans from other organizations who go out of control. Just as you think, we're inspectors who eliminate any superhuman who has killed common people or escaped their owners' control…"

When he heard this, Jonathan might have believed him if not for the way he acted within that organization. "Then, who hired you thinks I've gone out of their control?"

"Yes, but you already knew that…"

Jonathan's thoughtful expression told Terry that somehow he had lost his memories, so Terry said: "Now I understand…"

"What?"

"You lost your memories, that would explain everything…"

"You must be specific." Jonathan was growing impatient. If his theory that The Healing Church was the source of evil, just like his origin story said, was true, then he would have a big problem.

"The organization you work for has all the answers, but you've already searched once and ended up with your memories erased. They are invincible, the source of the origin, and the ones who control everything."

Wednesday looked at Jonathan and said: "Seems like the church you work for betrayed you, not a surprise."

"But it looks like you already knew." Terry said with a weak smile.

Jonathan didn't respond immediately. His very personality made him doubt even his companions. It was something instinctive he had developed long before he even knew he would become somewhat stronger.

"They'll have to send stronger people if they want to achieve their goal." Jonathan pulled out a gun, pointed it at Terry's head, and with a smile Terry murmured: "I'll be waiting for you on the other side."

Bang!

Blood splattered, and Wednesday, who was standing right next to him, was stained with it.

"You could've warned me, disgusting."

"I can't. My subordinates are here, and right now I can't trust anyone." As Jonathan said this, vans began to approach from the distance.

Enid came running back and shouted: "Someone's coming."

"Stay close." Jonathan moved toward the vans, and when they stopped, men in black suits got out.

"Was he the one who attacked the tourists?"

"That's what I think. Clean up the scene. I'll return to the academy." Jonathan said, recognizing Father Doung among the group.

Once he left with Wednesday and Enid following closely behind, Father Doung said: "We tried to stop them."

"Yes, I know."

"They had orders from very high up, we couldn't do anything." Father Doung, along with the other agents assigned to Jonathan, hadn't been able to stop those who had been sent externally.

This reinforced the idea that something strange was going on and that Jonathan couldn't let his guard down.

"Let's return to the academy."

"Understood, boss."
