Chapter 4 - Link 3: How the Edge of a Razor feels like

[13:01] 30 march, in Ensham, with Gherico

The owner was already outside the building, sipping coffee. As soon as he saw us, he quickly came toward us. "The guards warned me that you were coming. Do you have anything for me?" He said this while bringing his hand in front of us with an open palm.

Abello searched for something in his pockets, and he took out a crumpled sheet of paper and passed it to him. "Yes, this is the document you were waiting for, sir."

The owner was a tall, middle-aged man in a waiter's outfit wearing white gloves. He had gray hair styled in an old-fashioned manner. However, the thing that struck me most was his "military" approach. I could immediately perceive his discipline from his stance. "Very well, we were waiting for you, Abello.

These must be your colleagues, Orite and Gherico, right?" He said this as he opened the entrance just for us. Orite was frozen; the thoughts of the lost baby were hitting him. I noticed it, and I took the initiative.

"Yes, I am Gherico, as you said, sir. It's a pleasure to meet you; may we know your name?" I took a step ahead, covering Orite with my body and giving this man my hand to shake, diverting attention.

"My name is Kadosto Ensham, a member of the main family of this city." I felt shivers down my spine. My hand trembled as he went to shake it, a firm, cold handshake. I didn't turn back to check it, but I can imagine how shocked the others were.

The interior of the restaurant was old-fashioned, with a dark wooden floor, a white marble bar counter, and walls adorned with silvery scales. There were many large windows that I hadn't noticed from the outside. While Orite asked for the bathroom, I was focusing on the geometry of the rooms; nothing was symmetrical (it was hurting me).

As we all sat around a table, Kadosto locked the entrance. "We might need some privacy now," Kadosto said, approaching the table. His expression was getting serious as he got closer to us.

"The Ensham city is well known for being pacific; here the crime rates are close to 0%, but if needed, we may have to take strict action.

You were supposed to bring back the kid today, but I don't see him with you. Furthermore, this morning, the third Ensham reconnaissance team discovered the body of a deceased infant."

At that moment, the tension could be cut with a knife. I didn't turn my head, but I still caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of Abello's face. His jaw dropped. The truth was thrown directly in our faces. We traveled in a bubble, ignoring the damage we caused, and now it was time to pay.

"Woah, what tension!" A very suspicious guy came from the kitchen and took a seat right behind us. Describing him is difficult since I was in a total state of shock.

He was wearing a gray tactical jacket with an open zipper, revealing a purple t-shirt. He also wore a ski mask, covering his entire face except for his eyes, and on top of it, he had a black hat. He was clearly hired by the family to "silence" us.

"Sir, please, is there a way we can repay the family? We are terribly sorry and are available to do whatever is needed. Please take our proposal into consideration." I still don't know how Abello managed to formulate a complete sentence in that room, but it was the most convincing thing I've heard him say.

"You are worth nothing as a team. You cannot even manage a kid, but you are proposing to help us. Interesting. Hey DJ, do you think these kids are able to do something?" He looked at the other guy behind us as he waited for a response.

"They are all descendants. Maybe we can use them in one way or another." He took out a gray dagger and placed it on the table.
