Chapter 5 - First city

Breath remained frozen at the top of the hill, where the stone path finally opened onto the breathtaking view of the city. A city… but unlike any she had ever known.

Entering through the large doors, she was immediately struck by the currents of light magic floating in the air like star dust. Every corner seemed to hide an adventure, a secret, or a fantastic creature.

But what captured her attention most were the inhabitants.

Wolf men with proud expressions and erect ears patrolled the streets, vigilant for danger, while a young fox-human merchant spun his silky tail, laughing at a client's joke. A child with feline ears perched atop a barrel, nibbling a pastry with wide, shiny eyes. An elf passed silently, majestic, her long hair floating behind her like an enchanted veil.

She felt a mixture of wonder, disbelief, and a faint, creeping fear.

"This city is impressive… less developed than Japan, but it seems like a good place to live, and everyone looks happy," she thought.

"Now I have to find the guild, at least to get an identity card. I had to sacrifice a piece of my treasure," she reminded herself.

The door creaked as it opened.

Crossing the threshold, a wave of noise, heat, and mingled scents enveloped her. Her eyes widened at the sight inside.

She clenched her fists against her chest, unable to hide her joy.

"It's just like in manga… I'm finally living this experience!" she thought, happier than she had ever been.

The main room of the Adventurers' Guild was far livelier than she had imagined. Long dark wooden tables, worn by time and epic stories, were occupied by groups of beastmen, armored humans, silent elves, and even a few women with brilliant eyes and travel-darkened cloaks.

The walls were lined with quest boards: old papers nailed or magically suspended, all covered with inscriptions, seals, and illustrations of monsters or treasures.

Behind a reinforced counter, a woman wearing thin glasses looked up with a professional smile.

Approaching, Amane asked,

"Excuse me, can I register?"

"Of course. Fill out this form: name, age, race, weapon, magic affinity if you have one… and your combat experience. Even if it's 'none,' note it. I'll leave it to you."

"Hmm… I'll just put my affinity with fire and no combat experience," she thought.

Filling out the form, the receptionist's eyes widened.

"Impressive… you can use fire. Very well, your card will be ready tomorrow."

"I'll be there without fail," Amane replied.

"I love the color of your eyes… it's golden yellow from birth."

She paused, puzzled. "What does she mean about my eyes?"

"Yes… that's it. Goodbye, madam receptionist."

"See you tomorrow, Mademoiselle Amane."

Leaving the guild, the sun was beginning to set, so she searched for the nearest inn.

The bell jingled as she pushed open the door.

A warm aroma of fresh bread, spiced stew, and burning wood immediately wrapped around her. The interior was cozy, bathed in golden light from lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Exposed beams supported the structure, and the floor creaked softly under the footsteps of the patrons.

"Excuse me, how much for a room?" she asked the innkeeper.

"Hello. For one night with a single bed, it's three bronze coins."

"And for a two-bed room?"

A little surprised we see that she was alone replied

"Four bronze coins."

Amane revealed a golden coin and said,

"I'll take this one. Keep the change."

Everyone in the inn froze at the sight of a girl paying a golden coin for such a small room.

"Who is she?"

"She is a noble girl?"

"I've never seen her before."

Ignoring the stares, she went straight to her room. On the way up the stairs, she wondered, "How much is a golden coin in yen? I need to learn to use my money properly… I can't keep paying gold for everything, or I'll be robbed one day."

Once in her room, she closed the door behind her.

A small wooden bed, a chest of drawers, and a window overlooking the city rooftops… She let out a long sigh, then sat cross-legged on the bed, radiating an air of authority.

"You may come out now," she said.

Eleanor emerged from the shadows and bowed deeply.

"You didn't need to get a bed for me, goddess."

"I am a goddess, as you say. I don't really need money… and now, let's talk."

The air grew heavy, and Amane suddenly became serious.

"What exactly does the demon king expect from me?" she asked, her gaze empty and unwavering.

Eleanor lowered her head in respect.

"According to Demon King Vel'krath, your existence was not planned by the gods."

Amane tilted her head, confused.

"Not planned?"

"Everything here is the will of the gods. They plan, command, and control. In this world, freedom is a privilege rarely granted—but they do not act directly."

Listening carefully, Amane began to understand.

"So… you tell me you never had the choice ."

"The Church represents the Word of God, and of the apostles descendants of the sky. Extremely powerful servants of God who could destroy a country with a single attack."

Her shoulders tensed, the nape of her neck bristled, and her skin tingled as if brushed by a winter wind.

"You're serious… I think I'm screwed."

"Your evolution as a goddess makes you a heretic in their eyes. You will likely be targeted."

"I was trying to avoid trouble… and now it's served to me on a platter."

"Their power is nothing compared to yours. That's why the Demon King requested your help to stop the war."

"So that's what he wants… defeat the other gods," she said without flinching. A smile formed on her face despite the gravity of her words.

"Who would have believed that the demon king wants this war is not… but I can't contradict him." She let out a soft, astonished laugh. Her eyes sparkled with amused light, as if watching an unexpected show rather than worrying.

"You may lie down on the bed now. I've heard enough."

Eleanor seated herself gracefully on the bed.

"His behavior has changed since noon… her goddess nature is taking over, suppressing any negative emotions. Now she truly becomes a real goddess," Eleanor thought, mostly rejoicing internally.

"But what are you planning, goddess?"

"I did not think of intervening at all, rather to return home with others. But teleportation to another world is still… marked in red."

"Even if one day you gain this capacity, all the gods—here and in your world—will be on your back."

"My world too?"

"Yes. You are no longer human but a god. Here, gods interact directly with the world. As for your world… who knows? A god's presence in the human world can cause universal imbalance."

"At this point… I'll avoid it for now."

"Why didn't our gods prevent our summoning?"

"Who knows what he thinks."

Amane gave a sarcastic smile.

"One last thing… what color are my eyes?"

"It is the 'divine eyes,' which are golden divine in color, isn't it? I only heard in the legends told by my grandfather. ."

"Your grandfather… well, it doesn't matter. As long as it's normal for people. Pay out the next time I have an external change that I do not notice."

"I apologize for not mentioning it. Next time, I will warn you without fail."

"Tomorrow, I go to the library to write several so let's sleep ."

She turned and said,

"Good night."

Eleanor goes to bed on the bed delicately.

"Good night, goddess."

Amane takes out her mobile phone, looking at her photos with Yukihira.

"What would you have done in my situation?" she whispered to herself.

She started to close her eyes, but something was wrong.

"Why am I neither tired nor sleepy?"

Eleanor explained that deities do not sleep and cannot get tired.

"No… but I don't want to stay awake all night. Hmm… I have an idea."

Releasing her keyboard, she wrote a skill:

→ [Sleep]

"Yes, it worked! Now I can finally sleep!" She shouted with joy to find this solution. Then a thought crossed her mind:

"Now that I think about it… these skills are all pretty bizarre. To say that there is a skill that loads your mobile phone!"
