"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 167: Absolute Dominion
Draconis's aura was a storm—raw, overwhelming, impossible to ignore. He stood on the verge of a true breakthrough, ready to shed the last remnants of his old self and ascend to the rank of high-class devil.
Rias and her team watched with anxious awe. They'd seen the transformation with their own eyes: since the Sacred Gear resonance began, Draconis's power had climbed higher and higher, now at a level that unsettled even the veterans.
"And he hasn't even broken through yet…" Sona murmured, her brow furrowed. Draconis's state had slipped beyond their understanding.
Above, the apocalyptic magic array flickered and died—Grayfia had finally cracked its code. With the enemy's resistance fading, she shut the whole thing down.
Technically, the crisis was over. But Vali's betrayal and Draconis's metamorphosis held everyone's attention.
"It's starting…" Sirzechs whispered, sensing the tectonic shift in Draconis's power.
All eyes narrowed as Draconis's aura soared—then, impossibly, kept climbing. The pressure in the air was enough to make even ultimate-class devils uneasy.
Vali's eyes gleamed. Only an opponent like this could justify unleashing his Juggernaut Drive.
A hush fell. In a single heartbeat, the world around Draconis went utterly silent—a line had been crossed.
His infinite aura vanished, leaving only a stillness that felt deeper than death.
Slowly, Draconis opened his eyes. Calm. Unfathomable.
He glanced at Rias and the others, then swept his gaze over the corpses strewn about. His brow twitched in faint distaste.
He stepped forward. With each footfall, invisible magic rippled outward, dissolving the bodies around him like snow melting under spring sunlight.
"Is the battle over?" Draconis asked Rias, his voice low.
"It's done," Rias replied, studying him in disbelief. "You… broke through, didn't you? But I can't sense any magic at all…"
"I did. It's… complicated. I'll explain later." Draconis offered a quiet, easy smile—untroubled, almost serene.
Vali landed nearby, his presence sharp as a blade.
"I can feel it. You're stronger now."
"Careful," Rias warned, eyes never leaving Vali. "He's the one who betrayed Azazel. He leaked our meeting place to the enemy."
Draconis nodded, his tone still placid. "So you're the traitor. Why?"
Vali's answer was almost bored. "My true name is Vali Lucifer."
The word "Lucifer" sent a shockwave through the crowd—everyone but Azazel flinched. Another heir of the old Maou?
Draconis didn't react. "You never struck me as someone who cares about the Maou throne."
Vali shrugged. "Correct. I'm just the child of a Maou and a human woman. I couldn't care less about ruling. All I want is to fight the strong."
He laughed—a wild, eager sound. "If they signed a peace treaty, you'd lose your drive to get stronger. How boring would that be? But you didn't let me down."
"So I've been living rent-free in your head?" Draconis replied, voice steady as ever.
"We're the same, aren't we? You crave power too. Come on—fight me!"
Vali pointed at Draconis, his aura flaring.
"I do want to get stronger. But we're not the same." Draconis shook his head, then raised a hand in calm challenge. "Still, you won't stop until I put you down, will you?"
"Exactly. So what's your move?"
Draconis smiled. "I'll give you what you want."
He stepped forward. No magical aura, no visible power—but his body lifted off the ground, gliding upward, meeting Vali in the sky.
Sona and the others stared, baffled. "What's going on with him? How is he doing that?"
Leviathan explained, voice hushed with awe. "It's a state called Absolute Dominion. To reach it means total mastery over your magic—no waste, no leakage."
Whether angel or devil, most beings lose some power to overflow, especially in battle. That's why the strongest spells look so spectacular—waves of energy pouring off the caster. But all that flash is just wasted magic.
Few can do anything about it. But some, through perfect control, reach a level where not a single drop is lost.
Draconis had arrived at that rare realm—power stripped down to its purest essence.
A shimmer—Regalia Blade appeared in his hand, Divine Lament Shield floated before him, orbiting gently.
"Hey! I'm coming in—better be ready!" Vali called.
Wrapped in white armor, Vali vanished, a blur of movement.
Draconis didn't even look. He swung his sword to the right.
Clang!
Regalia Blade met the incoming Divine Dividing wing with pinpoint precision.
Draconis smiled, barely moving. His sword seemed weightless, the swing almost lazy—its path obvious, its speed unhurried.
Vali matched him, but at the moment of impact, a monstrous force blasted through the contact. Vali was hurled backward, unable to resist.
Boom!
He slammed into the ground, carving a crater more than a hundred meters wide, the earth around it spiderwebbing with cracks.
"Those with Absolute Dominion don't telegraph their strength. It's nearly impossible to read the power behind their attacks…" Sirzechs observed, a smile spreading across his face. "Amazing. He's really reached it…"
Rias and the others grinned, excitement in their eyes.
Draconis's casual strike had been anything but—he'd poured terrifying magic into it, and Vali had misjudged, paying the price.
Vali howled, launching himself skyward again—no trace of defeat, only exhilaration.
"Good! You're worth my full strength!"
Draconis's smile was gentle, his voice calm and confident. "Come on."
