"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 170: In the End, It's Talent

Nobody expected Draconis to be the first to throw shade.

Wasn't the guy across from him supposed to be the enemy here?

Azazel, recovering from a moment of surprise, snorted. "Wait, you know Bikou too?"

"Heh, Great Sage, huh? That's interesting!" Bikou grinned, swinging his iron staff. "I don't recall meeting this little bro before, but hey, I appreciate the respect!"

Draconis cut straight through the pleasantries. "I wasn't talking about you. I meant the Great Sage—the Victorious Fighting Buddha. That's a whole different league."

Bikou froze, scratching his head and bouncing on his toes like a real monkey. "The Victorious Fighting Buddha is the original! I'm just the guy who inherited his title!"

So he was like a Maou successor… Draconis sighed, clearly unimpressed.

"Are you even a monkey? Got any fur? Not a single strand."

Bikou: "…??"

Everyone: "…"

If he hadn't sensed Draconis's strange reverence for the original Great Sage—maybe some connection to the first—Bikou would've been ready to throw down. Was there anyone this blunt?

Draconis, having learned the Great Sage from Journey to the West was real, didn't react much. After all, he'd already heard about the Christian God and the Norse pantheon; an Eastern god popping up was just another day.

If it was the real deal, maybe he'd care. But this was just a guy with a borrowed title—hardly worth getting worked up over.

Sirzechs, meanwhile, was quietly anxious. He couldn't figure out why Draconis cared so much about the Victorious Fighting Buddha. Maybe he had ties to the Eastern gods? Sirzechs was left wondering how to keep Draconis on their side. With Draconis's talent, he was no longer just a promising rookie—he was now a genius to be reckoned with. A future Transcendent Being could mean everything for the Devil race.

But how did he get mixed up with the Eastern gods? Background checks had shown nothing unusual.

Sirzechs was troubled. Draconis was now officially a devil—there was no way he'd let such a prodigy slip away.

On Bikou's side, things were just as confusing. He'd never met Draconis before, and couldn't figure out where the weird goodwill was coming from. But Draconis didn't seem all that interested in him, either…

Weird, seriously weird.

Still, there was no time to dwell on it. The Norse gods were stirring up trouble up north. Better to drag the White Dragon back for a proper brawl.

"Whatever your deal is with the original, I'm nothing like him. I live free and easy," Bikou declared, spinning his iron staff as waves of energy rolled off him.

Not divine power, not demonic power—Bikou was wielding pure immortal energy.

A whole new flavor of force.

He slammed his staff into the ground. An array of immortal symbols flared beneath his feet, warping the space around them—a teleportation circle.

Draconis didn't interfere, just watched as the two figures were engulfed by the array.

White Dragon and Monkey King… If a pig and a sand monk showed up, they'd have the full Journey to the West set.

"Later, then. Next time we meet, I'll beat you," Vali said seriously. He knew he couldn't win right now, but his fighting spirit burned hotter than ever.

"Anytime," Draconis replied, cool as ever.

With a flash, Vali and Bikou vanished, tearing through space. The invasion was over.

The leaders of the three factions joined forces, returning from the pocket dimension to the real world. The peace treaty—so long in the making—was finally signed.

After all that chaos, peace had been restored.

"Alright, can you finally tell us what's going on with you?" Rias pressed. She'd been worried about Draconis's true condition since the start.

Even Sirzechs and the other big shots turned to listen, curiosity written all over their faces.

After all, this was the legendary Transcendence state.

Draconis chuckled. "I've officially broken through to High-Class Devil, but honestly? I have no idea how to explain this Transcendence you're talking about."

"Just share your general impressions," Serafall winked at him, magical-girl style.

Draconis shot her a weird look. What was up with this Maou's personality…?

"…If I had to put it simply, it's like a manifestation of willpower," he said, reaching for words everyone could grasp. "Say I'm a High-Class Devil, and I've got a sword in my hand."

He picked up a perfectly straight tree branch.

Everyone: "…"

They stared at the branch, faces caught between amusement and disbelief, but kept listening.

"Normally, if I—a High-Class Devil—accomplish something, the weapon I use might get a bit famous. People might start calling it the High-Class Devil's Sword."

Blank stares.

Draconis pressed on. "At that point, its essence changes. My will as a High-Class Devil gives the sword a kind of legendary attribute. So…"

He flicked the branch. No magic, no tricks—just a plain old stick. Yet in that instant, it unleashed a blade of energy, carving a ten-meter trench in the earth.

Everyone was stunned.

"Uh… I absolutely don't get it!" Serafall said, clutching her forehead.

If Draconis could do this as a High-Class Devil, why couldn't Sirzechs or the other Maou—who were way stronger—pull it off? Surely a Maou's sword would be even more impressive than a High-Class Devil's sword?

Draconis shrugged. "It's probably the power of will and faith. Because I'm the one holding it, it turns from a stick into the High-Class Devil's Sword—a leap beyond its basic nature."

"So does that mean you can make Sacred Gears whenever you want? Your Ascalon is a Sacred Gear now, right?" Rias asked.

"It can be a Sacred Gear under my will's influence. If I let go of that, it's just a Holy Sword again. Transcendence is still limited by the material. No matter how much you transcend, a stick isn't going to match a true divine weapon."

Everyone managed a wry smile.

Draconis's message was clear:

In the end, it's talent.

And really, if Transcendence were easy to figure out, there'd be more than just Draconis in the history books…
