"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 205: Shall We Dance?
The party was in full swing now. Guests mingled in clusters throughout the grand living room, while a live band played smooth, elegant tunes in the background.
This was no ordinary get-together.
With so many city officials and business elites present, Draconis Yi realized he'd underestimated Camilla—her social circle was far more impressive than he'd imagined.
"They're coming to stir up trouble, Yor," Draconis Yi murmured, eyes tracking Camilla and her entourage as they approached.
Yor blinked, genuinely confused.
"Trouble? Why would they do that?"
She couldn't fathom the point—what did they stand to gain?
For someone so lethal in her line of work, Yor was hopelessly naive about social games.
Camilla, Millie, and Sharon closed in, their smiles polite but their eyes sharp.
"Mr. Draconis Yi, may I ask where you work?"
Draconis Yi kept his tone gentle, his smile easy.
"I'm with the National Security Bureau. A police officer, actually. I was assigned to a classified mission for quite some time, which is why Yor and I kept our relationship quiet."
He nodded graciously to the trio.
"Yor always speaks highly of you all. Thank you for looking out for her."
Camilla and her friends were taken aback.
"A secret police officer? Seriously?" Millie's eyes sparkled with curiosity, excitement bubbling beneath her polite facade.
Some of the city officials nearby perked up, their gazes sharpening.
Camilla pressed, skeptical.
"If you were undercover, is it really safe to reveal your identity now?"
Draconis Yi shrugged.
"No problem. The mission's over."
He'd fabricated the whole story on the spot, but it was the perfect cover for Yor's long-standing "single" status.
Now, everyone would assume she'd been quietly dating a police officer whose work kept him out of sight.
Yor sat nearby, smiling mechanically while sweat beaded beneath her collar.
There was a problem—her brother, Yuri Briar, worked at the National Security Bureau too.
If Yuri ever caught wind of Draconis Yi, he'd dig into his background, and their cover would be blown.
What now?
But Draconis Yi had already committed, so Yor could only keep up appearances and hope for the best.
At least, for the moment, everyone at the party seemed convinced.
If things went south with Yuri, she'd just have to come clean.
Meanwhile, Camilla fumed, frustrated that she hadn't found a single flaw in Draconis Yi's story.
Jealousy gnawed at her.
Yor, who'd always been the "man-repellent" of the group, suddenly had a boyfriend who outshone even Camilla's own partner, Dominic.
All those years of boasting about Dominic's virtues—now she felt like a clown, and Yor's innocent air only made it worse.
She couldn't let Yor have the spotlight.
"Yor-senpai rarely comes to parties," Camilla said, clapping her hands as if struck by inspiration.
"Why not enjoy it to the fullest? In fact—why don't you and Mr. Draconis Yi share a dance? It's a rare opportunity, isn't it?"
"Eh? D-dance?"
Yor froze, panic flickering across her face.
"N-no, that's really not necessary…"
She'd never danced before, and Camilla knew it. This was a setup.
Draconis Yi caught the play instantly.
He could read Yor's nervous micro-expressions—she was lost. Camilla wanted to embarrass her.
Petty.
But Draconis Yi was here to support Yor, not let her flounder. He smiled, accepting the challenge.
"Of course. I'd love to dance with Yor."
"Eh? Draconis Yi, I…"
Yor started to protest, but Draconis Yi winked at her, and she fell silent.
He glanced at the couple already dancing a tango in the center of the room.
"We'll go after they finish."
As the music played, Draconis Yi leaned in, whispering:
"Don't worry. I'll use magic to help you remember the basic steps. Just follow my lead—I'll handle everything else."
Yor nodded, tension written all over her face as she watched the dancers, trying desperately to memorize their moves.
Camilla, meanwhile, was practically gloating. She knew Yor would mess up and make a spectacle of herself.
"Camilla, isn't this a bit much?" Sharon murmured, her tone gently reproachful.
"What's the harm?" Camilla replied, smiling sweetly.
"We can't let Yor-senpai hog all the attention. This is payback for keeping secrets so long."
Millie chimed in, her voice teasing but tinged with envy.
"She deserves a little punishment. All those times we chatted, she must've been secretly laughing at us."
Truth be told, Draconis Yi was exactly Millie's type. If she didn't already have a boyfriend, she might have considered making a move herself.
Maybe juggling two boyfriends wasn't out of the question…
Millie smirked at the thought, though she knew it was just a fantasy. Everyone had their little dark impulses.
Jealousy simmered beneath the surface.
The dancing couple finished. Draconis Yi took Yor's hand and led her to the center of the floor.
He nodded to the band.
"Could you play 'Por Una Cabeza,' please?"
No tango was complete without that iconic melody.
Thankfully, this world's culture mirrored his own—classics like "Por Una Cabeza" were well-known.
And could Draconis Yi tango?
Absolutely.
He'd spent the afternoon studying dance tutorials, learning the steps just for tonight.
Not only that—he'd brushed up on magic tricks, wine knowledge, and every other skill an elite party guest might need.
He never fought a battle unprepared.
