Chapter 33 - Servant Bell

It took about ten minutes for the police to slowly arrive at the asylum. They then saw the terrifying sacrificial scene and a massive amount of cash.

These police officers were utterly shocked, their eyes practically glowing green. If not for the eerie scene and Caesar standing beside it, covered in blood and holding a revolver, these guys would have likely gone over to "inspect" it.

If that had happened, it would be hard to say how much cash would have been left, as even if some money went missing, they could just claim it was "accidentally lost during the investigation."

The reputation of the Loen police was only average, and Caesar felt they were perfectly capable of doing something like that.

After another six or seven minutes, Dunn, along with Leonard and Frye, arrived in a hurry by carriage.

"Captain."

Caesar, guarding a large sum of cash and bathed in countless greedy yet fearful gazes, had kept his nerves taut until he saw Dunn's calm face appear, at which point he finally relaxed.

"Two Beyonders tried to use a ritual to ask an evil god to impregnate a lady. I killed one and one escaped. The one who escaped is called Lanevus; he's a swindler who has been in the newspapers, so his portrait should be easy to find," he quickly approached Dunn, concisely sharing important information. "Lanevus carries the aura of an evil god and is very dangerous. I suggest immediate pursuit."

Dunn listened to his description, then carefully examined the scene before going to negotiate with the police chief in the distance. After a few words, the inspector nodded, gathered his subordinate police officers, and left.

After sending the police away, Dunn began to process the scene.

"Caesar, go communicate with the asylum staff and ask them to step aside. Frye and Leonard, you two get the body bags from the carriage."

"Yes."

The three responded simultaneously.

Before leaving, Leonard even winked at Caesar and said with a smile, "That's your third one, impressive!"

He was probably referring to Caesar having killed three people already.

Do you think I want to?

Caesar rolled his eyes at him and walked over to Dr. Wilde.

"Mr. Cardini, you actually have connections with the police! But what exactly is going on?"

"I'm very sorry, Dr. Wilde, but I cannot answer you. Please do not spread word of today's events. Someone will come to question you and take a statement in a while," Caesar replied. "Also, we need you all to step away from the scene. Oh, and if you could provide another bag, that would be great; we need it for the money."

After persuading the asylum staff to leave, Leonard and the others did not rush to put Hood Eugen's body into a body bag. Instead, they stood guard by the corpse, quietly waiting for something. In the middle of the night, several people silently watching a corpse created a truly eerie scene.

It was like some evil gathering.

Caesar thought to himself.

So he, too, mimicked their posture, crossing his arms and staring at Hood Eugen's corpse.

Not long after, tiny golden specks appeared on the surface of Hood Eugen's corpse. These small light points detached from the body and floated up, then converged, forming a vortex-like phenomenon similar to the eye of a storm. Soon, all the golden light points had leached out of the corpse and gathered together. The light gradually intensified, accompanied by a soul-shaking low hum. Suddenly, a strong flash of light occurred, then the light dissipated, and an eyeball-like object floated in mid-air for a circle before dropping to the ground with a thud.

No, upon closer inspection, it really did look like an eyeball. This eyeball had a golden vertical pupil, like the eye of a legendary dragon, full of majesty and imposing presence. But for some reason, the color of the eyeball wasn't pure; amidst the gold, there was a familiar hint of blood red.

"There's a corrupted scent."

Caesar sensed it and frowned, "It should have been corroded by the True Creator."

This was the third time he had witnessed such a scene, and he now somewhat understood that deceased Beyonders would indeed exude Beyonder Characteristics.

"Mhm."

Dunn also agreed, "Just the exuding of Beyonder Characteristics causes such a large commotion; this person must be at least a Sequence 7 Beyonder."

"Sequence 7? Isn't that the same as the Captain?"

Caesar couldn't help but be startled. Luckily, he had fired without hesitation, otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable. However, for Hood Eugen, a powerful Sequence 7 Beyonder, to be so easily manipulated by Lanevus and himself, he was truly too foolish and died without any injustice.

"The Captain isn't that weak."

Leonard laughed, tilting his head to ask Dunn, "Right, Captain?"

Dunn ignored him, instead taking out an iron cigarette case from his pocket, bending down, and carefully placing the eyeball inside, sealing it with a spiritual wall.

"We can collect the body now, Frye, it's up to you."

He said.

Because they had to conceal the secret of the Beyonder's corpse, they didn't ask the police for help this time and had to handle the scene themselves. The expressionless Frye looked more like a dead person than the corpse itself, calmly lifting the horribly disfigured Hood Eugen and placing him into the body bag, his movements skilled and professional.

Seeing that he couldn't get involved, Caesar picked up the handbag Dr. Wilde had given him and turned to collect the cash.

"So much money. Lanevus really deserves to die."

He sighed as he packed the money. Besides stacks of 10-pound banknotes, the pile also included many bearer deposit slips, drafts, and bank notes. Roughly estimated, the total value should exceed 8,000 to 9,000 pounds.

After processing the scene, Frye returned to Blackthorn Security Company with the corpse and the unconscious Megose. As for the others, they began to pursue Lanevus under Dunn's leadership.

Not only them, but due to Lanevus's dangerous nature, Dunn had already entrusted the police to inform Tingen's other two official Beyonder organizations—the Machinery Hivemind and the Punishers. Coupled with the mobilized police, Tingen City was exceptionally lively that night.

But even with so many people practically turning Tingen upside down, and various mystical methods being tried, Lanevus still wasn't caught. Finally, after forty-eight hours of fruitless city-wide searching, the Tingen City Police Department publicly issued a warrant for Lanevus on charges of fraud and murder. This prominent figure, who had appeared in newspapers as a "representative of young entrepreneurs" just three days prior, quickly reappeared in the papers as a wanted criminal, demonstrating a boomerang-like sense of humor.

Caesar's biggest gain during this process was probably the Mystical Item he had secretly kept—the bell that could hypnotize others.

Through private research, he thoroughly understood the function of this Beyonder Item. By infusing spirituality and shaking the bell at a target, the sound produced by the bell could hypnotize the target, making them obey commands. The hypnotic effect was strong and long-lasting on ordinary people, but if the target was a Beyonder, the effect would only last a few minutes, and the higher their Sequence, the weaker the effect.

Ultimately, Caesar named this bell the "servant's bell."
