Chapter 12 - IBIDS Chapter 12: Beyond the Mask: Understanding Nezuko's Uniqueness

Urokodaki breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Takeshi say that he had already dealt with that demon.

The fire in the hearth burned brightly, and the flames swayed from side to side.

Tanjiro changed into clean clothes and also came to sit down in front of the fireplace. Mr. Urokodaki seemed to have something he wanted to tell them.

The firelight shone on Urokodaki Sakonji's tengu mask, making the color of the mask even more crimson.

"Demons are divided into many types. Those who can use Blood Demon Art, a special type of magic, are higher-level demons."

Tanjiro's pupils dilated involuntarily, which allowed him to come into contact with different levels; Takeshi, on the other hand, was not like that.

He had transmigrated and knew about the world of "Demon Slayer." If he didn't understand everything, he at least knew a lot about it.

"Now that you two have passed the selection, the demons you will be fighting in the future will probably be this type of demon."

Urokodaki Sakonji's eyes wandered over the two people in front of him. Takeshi was exceptionally talented.

He, as his trainer, did not have a concrete grasp of his current strength. Should he try to test him again another day?

Takeshi noticed that Mr. Urokodaki was watching him. He raised his head and gave him a grin, thinking to himself: The old man is probably planning something for me again.

Urokodaki Sakonji looked away. He temporarily put aside the idea of trying to test him that he had just decided on.

His eyes fell on Tanjiro, saying, "Tanjiro! The battles with these demons in the future will be more difficult than anything you've experienced so far. You must be extra careful, and you must be calm and collected."

"But, Tanjiro, I'm sure you'll be fine!"

Mr. Urokodaki's words of affirmation instantly filled Tanjiro with confidence.

After Tanjiro left, Takeshi changed into a comfortable sitting position and asked, "Why didn't you tell me anything just now? You have to be fair~~~" He deliberately dragged out his tone.

Urokodaki Sakonji knew that this troublesome kid, Aoyama, was probably going to cause some trouble again, and said in a deep voice, "Do I still need to tell you anything? You know everything clearly, whether I tell you or not!"

"Hehe, that's what you say." Takeshi straightened up. "But whether you tell me or not is your business! I'm just reminding you to be fair!"

After speaking, Aoyama jumped up from his seat and ran towards the door.

Urokodaki Sakonji was speechless for a moment and picked up the firewood next to him, throwing it towards the door. Fortunately, Takeshi was quick-witted and quick-handed, and closed the door as he went out.

The firewood hit the door frame.

Takeshi opened the door halfway, poked his head in, and said with a grin, "What's wrong! Did I say the right thing!" After speaking, he slipped away in a puff of smoke.

"You brat! You come back here, where am I being unfair!!!"

Mr. Urokodaki's roar came from behind him.

Hearing the sound, Tanjiro, who was in the room, came out and asked, "What's wrong? Where's Senior Aoyama?"

"I chased him out!" Urokodaki Sakonji stood up angrily and walked towards his room.

This Aoyama really knew how to pick his moments to make him angry. This kid was definitely doing it on purpose.

Tanjiro looked at the dark night outside and, without much hesitation, put on his outer robe and chased after him.

On a giant rock in the forest, Takeshi sat on top, while Sabito and Makomo, along with the other eleven, stood below.

Takeshi raised his eyebrows and said, "This is..." His eyes fell on Makomo.

Makomo took a step forward. "We've all come to thank you. You slew that misshapen demon and avenged us all!"

Takeshi smiled and jumped down from the boulder, waving his hand. "It's nothing, no need to thank me. Besides, I said myself that I would definitely slay it!"

Sabito stood to the side with his sword, his body tilted, and said, "It's nothing?" His tone was a bit heavy.

All of these people had died at the hands of that misshapen demon, and now Aoyama was saying it was 'nothing'. Wasn't that saying that they were weak?

Takeshi saw that Sabito was a bit upset and said, "I said there's no need to thank me. We're fellow disciples, no need to be so polite!"

Hearing this, Sabito's expression behind the mask softened, understanding that he had been a bit too impulsive just now.

Takeshi continued, "That demon said that you were a strong and capable opponent!" He gave a sincere smile, making people believe what he said even more.

Thinking to himself: The Hand Demon wanted to say that, but he didn't give the Hand Demon a chance to speak at all.

Footsteps came from afar. It was Tanjiro, who had come to find him. The figures of the group slowly disappeared. Sabito awkwardly said "Thank you" before disappearing.

"Senior Aoyama! I finally found you. Let's go back!"

Tanjiro ran a few steps and came up to him.

On the way back, Tanjiro hesitated for a while, opening his mouth, but not saying anything.

Takeshi glanced at him out of the corner of his eye. "If you have something to say, just say it. Don't be so wishy-washy."

Tanjiro grabbed Takeshi's arm and said, "Senior Aoyama, I didn't dare to ask in front of Mr. Urokodaki, but I feel that... my sister is different from other demons!!!"

Takeshi rubbed his ears. "Don't shout so loud. You don't have to shout, I know Nezuko is different from other demons."

"Then..." Tanjiro didn't know how to say it. He couldn't explain what was going on with his sister now.

"Don't worry. Nezuko won't eat people! She still retains her own consciousness and relies on sleep to recover her strength."

"R-Really? Is that really so?"

A smile appeared on Tanjiro's face. Before, he was worried that his sister would just die, but now he was worried that his sister wouldn't be able to control herself and would eat people. If Nezuko really did eat someone one day, what would he do?

Commit seppuku to apologize! Those four words popped into his mind.
